Music that gets your mind going!

Archive: 35 posts

This question came up in my mind.
What music do you listen to when your creating in LBP?
I want to get my mind going for creating but i need some music, that probably havent heard before to get my mind going. It doesn't have to have vocals, just any music, it could be mozart idc. Just what music do you listen to.

I listen to music i listen to on the average which does not help, so im trying to find somthing out of the ordinary

I listen to tons of music while I'm in create mode, all types, jazz/hiphop/rock/punk/reggae, depending on what mood I'm in & I'll sometimes hover around all day in create mode unable to come up with anything... But, recently I have actually noticed that, for whatever reason, I'm most productive/prolific when I'm listening to the Beatles & I don't know why. I created 90% of a level over a weekend when I listened to every Beatles's album chronologically from Please Please Me to Abbey Road*, but on the Monday after that weekend I struggled to come up with anything while I listened to Queens of the Stone Age & Black Francis. And that wasn't an isolated incident either, its happened often enough that I've taken notice of creating at a fast & rewarding rate whenever I listen to a Beatles album. Coincidence? Dunno....

*Let It Be was recorded before Abbey Road so I make a point to listen to it first

Everything. Rave music, Alternative Rock, just whatever tickles my fancy so to speak. I can get inspired by any genre of music, though my thoughts vary depending on what i'm listening to. Rave music tends to really help when actually playing levels, I find, especially when trying to ace them. Not sure why xD2010-07-23 21:23:00

It depends what I'm building really, but since most of my levels tend to be verging on the dark side, it's usually something nice and moody. I generally go for tunes that compliment the level, as they help get you in the right frame of mind.

I've been TOTALLY in love with Ennio Morricone for the last few months.

The gardens themed music blares in my head everytime I get up in the morning! (Is this a good thing?!)
Since its my favourite music, it gets me in a creative mood.

(If only I could make something that I could finish!)

Music is a resource often untapped, that we use in our quest for balance. To understand its place and its importance and use your full benefit will only strengthen your life and hopefully you completeness. Mine favourite genre is hip hop..I love to listen hip hop music..mine favourite hip hop artists are 50 cent, DJ Qwik , Eminem and many more..2010-07-29 12:34:00

I need relaxing music.
Kings of Leon, Doors, Black Keys, Gorillaz, etc.
I find that kind of stuff the most productive as it isn't distracting.

I've been suggesting this to everyone of every topic, but Andy Mckee and Antoine Dufour have very inspirational instrumental music, I suggest not to use songs with lyrics too much, creating your own vision of the music you hear gives the best results! I've posted Andy Mckee songs on lbpc already so here's some Antoine Dufour stuff.

I don't listen to music whilst creating. I can't listen to music when trying to work on stuff, be that at college or doing anything mentally straining. I get too distracted and prefer to separate music from strenuous tasks.

While at work though, my iPod is a must! Makes the last hour of my shift fly by!

I don't usually listen to music while I build, but I do when I work.
I've found that house music or chillout helps me focus a lot, since Im not paying attention to lyrics and stuff!

I like podcasts, but I've made a couple ofstupdily named playlists of various music too! There's a big jolly one called 'Superfunky Choons' which has got tracks by james brown, blur, queen, guns'n'roses, fatboy slim, war, rick james, david bowie, vampire weekend and gorrilaz. Then there's a more relaxed one called 'Take a chillax pill' which includes the byrds among acouple of the artists above.2010-07-29 21:05:00

Meh, I get too distracted regardless. I guess I just like music too much that I really try to hear out for everything that the song has to offer, wether that be lyrics or music.

Props to you for mentioning Rush

Anyway, I actually don't listen to anything while I create. I find that it distracts me too much. Part of the creation process is sound/music, and I need silence to hear in my head what I want, then I go and look for something that is close.

However, slightly off topic, when I was in college and I needed to write papers, I listened to the FFVII and FFVIII soundtracks. For whatever reason, when I listened to those songs I could crank out papers in no time.

I've been TOTALLY in love with Ennio Morricone for the last few months.

Oh yes! I'm a long time Ennio Morricone fan. Also, Thomas Newman's compositions/scores are wonderfully evocative. Danny Elfman's are too, but tend to eventually bleed into one another...

If anyone's interested in more electronic soundscapes, then there are some interesting works by a group (artist?) called Lemon Jelly. They can tend to get repetitive but have a lot of interesting melodic themes (this is probably not their best example, but I'm rushing). But I find a bit repetition and blandness even allows me to fill the gaps with my imagination...

And then there's Umberloid - I love this piece.

Not quite as diverse in movement and mood, or as emotionally evocative as Snr Morricone et al, but depends on what you're trying to create.
