3D Physics seen in trailer!

Archive: 10 posts

i saw a thread a few days ago saying there was 3D Physics in the game. so i watched the trailer again on the racing bit on my comp, the quality of the vid was a bit poor and it just look like the boxes in the race just slided on the ground, but i watched it again on my big telly and i can comfirm i definitly saw the boxes roll around when knocked into in a 3D maner! it was as clear as day they definitly move in 3D! 2010-07-23 18:03:00

It's just a layer-switching mover. It's not 3D. If this game was capable of 3D movement, surely that would have been mentioned by now.2010-07-23 19:15:00

Knowing Media Molecule, it was probably just an illusion.2010-07-23 19:51:00

It is possible to work on that axis, but most likely it is just an illusion.

check out the drill object from the incredibles packs to see what I mean. If you sticker a section of it, it does actually work.

The video has been analyzed pretty well since release, and if you look closely, they boxes merely move across the thick layer that is the "ground level" of the track. They don't roll over at all. (It's much easier if you download the HD version of the trailer to your PS3, zoom in, and use the analog sticks to slowly move through the .5 seconds worth of video that I'm talking about.)

The drill simply rotates on the x or y axis, depending on orientation. But it won't tossle about or move out of it's layer in any sort of way. The same thing applies to any of the other moving decorations (flora, etc) that move with smooth, dynamic and fluid motion. The physics of decorations are still limited to the current layers and orientation in which the objects reside, just like any other material object.

There is, however, the ability to use movers to make objects switch layers.

I think yes, as it was pretty well established when the trailer came out that 3d physics was not in the game and all the evidence from playing and interviews etc. tells us it's not happening. As schm0 says, we've been over the "tumbling boxes" in this video before and it turned out to be a case of overactive imaginations on the part of the viewers than anything actually depicted in the videos - they simply spin and slide on the "floor" 2010-07-26 09:37:00
