F4F: Canyon Capersverymalty
Come caper in the canyons! Difficulty = medium/hard.
Hello everyone!

I'd love it if any of you could spare the time have a little look at my newest level. I've aimed for a platformer of medium to hard difficulty, and have tried my best to keep it interesting.

There are a few secret areas in the level, as well as a timed part, plenty of jumps of varying difficulty, and various switches.

All constructive feedback is welcome, so let me know your thoughts! I'm always happy to look at any levels you post in reply to this thread!

Hope you guys have as much fun playing it as I had making it!

OK I played your level and here's my review

The Good:
Solid platforming
Challenging (in a good way)
Nice visuals

The Not So Good:
Mm Story Mode Creatures. Try making your own creatures to help make your level look more unique.
Spread out checkpoints. Its always good to have a checkpoint after every difficult obstacle.

Over all A nice level that I give :star::star::star::star:

P.S. Try my level. name's in the sig.

EDIT: You should probably put you level pictures in the first post (so more people will see them).

Ok, heres my thoughts:

Great opening, lets the player have a nice introductory ride. As for the actual level, everything felt really cleaned and polished. All edges looked intentionally made and no brush cuts were visible. I also thought you made very nice use of the three layers, something I find essential for a fun level. I'm sure you'll catch some flak for using pre-fab objects, but I felt that everything you included in your level gave it a very "MM Canyons" feel, like it could mesh in as another game level. So if by chance that was what you were going for it worked. So over-all a very nice, polished level that was fun to play. 5/5

Please take a look at my level "A Realm Forgotten" if you get the time and leave me a comment on my thread, Thanks!

Thanks Lockstitch! I was going for a Canoyn themed level - hence the name! I know I have used a few story items, but I felt that I wanted the level to be an extension of the Canyons levels rather than a stand alone level like some of the others that I've created. I wanted to spend more time on the look and playability of the level, so I'm glad that came across!

Grim - thanks for your comments, I'll have another look at the checkpoints to see if I could put them in better places. I was only concerned with not making the level too easy, as I was hoping to aim at more experienced LBP-ers! hehe.

Keep the comments coming - they're all appreciated!

- I -hate- long introductions. Especially ones you can't skip.
- Before the rotating switch, the jump after the checkpoint. I jumped down, got all bubbles except one then the rock pushed me into the cactus! Cheap death imo.
- I would increase the sticker switch radius on the bomb/diamond bonus section.
- No prize bubble in the snake?
- Before the blades, what's with the short black caution sign? It flicks back very quickly.
- No score bubbles on the cow or in the milk cans?

Some fun stuff in this level. Gameplay wise my fav was the rotating switch that you didn't need an ugly jetpack for.
Would be 5 stars, but long unskippable intros that use up thermo (which could be spent on gameplay) make me rage. So 4 stars.

EDIT: You probably don't need to change the intro. It's just my opinion, I'm sure others will love the intro due to the visuals.
Usually the longer/prettier the intro, the less gameplay there is (because of thermo). But your level has more gameplay than most.
I'll go back and heart this level if I didn't already.

Thanks midnight - some valid points, and a few things I hadn't thought of. I'll definitely get some score bubble action going on with the cow and the snake - I know the snake bit is tricky so players deserve a reward! With regard to the intro, I know that inrtos do annoy some players, but I didn't think mine was overly long, I could see about speeding the carts up if other people feel the same way! Thanks for your ideas! 2010-07-25 22:07:00

Hey littlebot, played your level!
At the start i was a little unsure about the use of the MM wrestler guys, but seeing as how they dont really do anything i think you can get away with it. But i agree with Midnight heist, i think the intro could have been done without, but its not a big deal. Since you were going for the canyons look, i think the visuals are spot on, but i found a mag key switch that was visible by one of your secrets later in the level. The secrets you included were great, i think i got them all and the 1# spot
The gameplay was solid but I did think the milk the cow part could have been done a little better. Maybe you could make it where you actually have to time the shots somehow?

Towards the start i wasn't so sure but by the end you swayed me into giving you 5 stars and a heart! Can you checkout my F4F level "In pursuit of wealth" and leave some feedback? Thanks!

Hey I absolutely loved this level, it was fun and creative, the cow was my favorite except I was hoping for something a little better than just pressing a button. But that is just a minor flaw and I liked your style of creating, and your obstacles, puzzles, etc. 5 stars and a heart from me 2010-07-26 07:28:00

First of all, I, unlike many people here, have no problem with the intro

This felt like a very well made level to me. Everything was executed very well and there were some good ideas in there. I especially liked milking the cow, although that idea could have amounted to more than just pressing a button.

However, I feel like there's no real hook to this level. The level is too reliant on what MM has already done by duplicating their canyon theme and using many of their objects. Because of this, the entire level is all fairly forgettable to me.

Still, you obviously have some skills as a creator. I just suggest that you use those skills to create something more imaginative.

:star::star::star::star:

Also, you left a magnetic key switch visible on one of the saws.

Hey guys!

Thanks for your feedback. I've edited that magnetic switch out, there's always one I forget to make invisible! I've also adjusted the switch for when you have to milk the cow. It's a grab switch rather than just a press switch, which means that some aiming is involved. In all honesty, I thought it could just be a bit of fun at the end of the level, rather than a game demanding hardcore LBP playing skills! hehe.

Next time I'm online I'll check out your levels and post some feedback for you!

Thanks again, littlebot
