A Realm Forgotten

A Realm ForgottenLockstitch
Upon inspecting a mysterious bottle, sackboy is suddenly pulled inside. What adventure awaits him here?
This is not my first level, but the first that I published under my new PSN account. I've spent a pretty solid two months on it and believe its worth playing.

I created it to be a magical adventure through a mysterious bottle. Inside the player will find many things to interact with, many of which will hopefully be surprising. There are a few things I've included which I have not seen before on LBP and took a lot of thought.

I'd be very happy to provide feedback for anyone else who gives me some on my level.

Here are a few screens:

Hey, I'll try playing this later today or tomorrow and I'll tell you what I think.

Edit: I played the level and here's what I thought.

The scenery of the level was gorgeous and there was still a great amount of platforminging. Also, the purple platforms that boost you up are great. Most of those you get caught under but this one's different. Also, you did a great job with the character and I loved how you didn't just put out platforms. You had seesaw like platforms, platforms you pull down and even platforms that appear and dissapears. I also loved how what looked like two parts stretched out to make a bridge with lots of parts. It was sort of a trick of the eye which I loved along with the circle. Plus, just when it was about to end, the level shifted like moving parts! Great job, five stars and a heart.

O.o So I just played this level (got first place by the way. ;D) and I all I have to say is: HOW!?

This level blew my mind at the raw ingenuity present in the platforming in the level. This level is...magical, which makes perfect sense since it WAS in a genie bottle. There's absolutely NOTHING I can say that you can improve on because it was THAT amazing. (However, there was a sensor switch visible, as well as a string connected to a point bubble. I'm not sure if this was intentional or what, but I'm thinking it wasn't.)

So, in case you couldn't tell: :star::star::star::star::star: <3 and <3 for you as an author because I'm in need of some more magic like this. Fantastic, stylistic, insane moving platforms. D: It was just too awesome. I don't know how you could have the patience to create something that probably required extreme precision.

(F4F for me is either of the two music levels in my sig)

Anyone who hasn't played this level: Play it. It's just amazing.

Thanks for the kind feedback on my level! After playing this level, your comment meant even more! I was actually in shock at some parts of level... I mean... wow.

Where to start... the visuals. Not only did this level have solid gameplay, and amazing mechanics, but it had a brilliant look. (Especially the genie, good job!)

I was amazed at seeing those two purple brick-things pull apart to create a bridge, but then to see the same thing used to create a spinning circle made my jaw drop. Everything in the level was amazing!

As for bad things, my friend joined while I was playing it, and at some parts when one person died and the other person went ahead, the other person would spawn in an old checkpoint and was forced to kill themselves. Also, at the end of the level, where the bridge collapses to reveal the scoreboard, my friend got stuck to the right of it.

Absolutely fantastic level that deserves a lot of recognition. (which reminds me, I have a recorder and a youtube channel with many subscribers. If you want me to film this I'd be glad to, and it would assure you a ton of more plays.)

I gave this level 5 stars and a heart I look forward to more of your work!

Thanks for the constructive feedback Cog, I've been wrestling with making certain parts of the level multiplayer friendly, but it's quite hard with certain ideas I have in the level. I'll take another look at possible solutions for this when I get some time.

I would also love to take you up on your filming offer. I sent you a PM about it.

Really nice level, good scenery and good gameplay I like the circle of emiting blocks bit, it was cleverly made. Well done 5*2010-07-23 09:16:00

- I was expecting to be able to inspect the bottle and be sucked inside, but alas, you start already inside the bottle.
- Magical bridge was coolies, despite not having much gameplay value. You show off you.
- After the circular magic blocks (pretty + original gameplay value, kudos), I pulled the blue sponge, it pulled down 2 platforms, and I got stuck near the bolt on the top platform (middle layer), and had to pop.

Nice visuals and geometry to play through.
The "magical" elements were great, I wish there was less switch-based platforming and more magic stuff.
Five stars + level heart + creator heart. Trifecta!
I had a few playthroughs. One to take it in, one for gameplay, one for visuals, and a final one for the highscore.

What did you make the blue oval orbs from? (the ones with 2 lights in em)
Is it possible to make it past the steps after the rotation without pulling the fire dissolve switch? I made it to the third one, heh.
And why the account change? Max slots or fresh start? I would like to have a look at your older levels if I haven't already.

I tried really hard and couldn't think of anything negative to say, haha. Great level, all around. You did a great job spicing up the visuals for common gamelay elements. Great ideas! I might have gone with a different song, but that's just personal taste.

Thanks for the feedback guys. and @ midnight heist, the lights are a thin layer of arabian render, I actually didn't think about trying to climb the sidways pillars, maybe I'll give it a go, and simply changed my name b/c my old one was boring generic gamertag. I wanted a unique one. My only other previous level has been republished under my new name as well.2010-07-23 15:31:00

Amazing level. I think the best way to describe it would be professional. It feels like an MM level. I couldn't see any flaws in the execution of the gameplay, visuals or overall mechanics of the level. It was all so clean and well executed. They're were also some very clever platforming ideas in the level.

I actually played this one last night but I forgot to leave feedback.

Well first off as others have pointed out the visuals look great. While it is only clear that you are inside a Genie's Bottle by your description (and by the Genie saying so) that does not matter because the materials used and the music all help to set the mood that this is in some magical realm.

I really enjoyed the mechanics of the game, especially the way bridges were formed across the fire and the way the whole level flipped near the end which kind of reminded me of my own Topsy-Turvy Temple level. WORLD-THREAT is correct in saying it feels like a MM made level.

Still the only negative thing I can think of is perhaps some of the puzzles are bit too simple, I found I was able to run through it on my first try.

so

PROS:

Great visuals
Nice Platforming
Cool Mechanics

CONS:

A bit too easy

still a well deserved :star: :star: :star: :star::star: and a <3

hey and thx for feedback on my level

pros:
-unique scenery
-Not 2 hard
-Amazing emitter usage
-imaginative obstacles
-Not 2 much score bubbles
not too long

cons:
-maybe 2 easy in some parts

I cant see any flaws in the level. I like how its pure platforming, no puzzles anywhere.
I dont hate puzzles but i like more this kind of levels where platforming is on primacy.
i believe that u have worked hard on this!

A masterpiece !
This level was so amazing that I have only good points :
- The first appearing bridge (nice and original shape)
- The poping platforms (nice sound effect)
- The deploying bridge (how do you do that !!)
- Very good use of the 3 layers
- Nice background, very good use of the stickers and the materials
- The genius, well designed
- The turn gravity at the end, awesome !
- The difficulty of the level doesn't waste the experience (maybe some players would find it to easy)

Obviously I gave a deserved :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 on the level and on the author.
One of the best level I have ever played !

Well Locksitich, my sacky hat goes of to you., this was a well constructed level throughout. With extremely clean lines and a beautiful theme this was the best level I have played all month! No lie, this was very well thought out from start to finish, the turning circles being emitted really got me smiling and the Genie was a lovely touch. Without a blink in the eye and any hesitation I give this :star::star::star::star::star:'s and a <3.2010-07-24 22:55:00

Hey man I just played your level and let me tell you it was breathtaking I love every single part of this level it was incredible. The visualization was magnificent and the gameplay outstanding Also the Originality was very creative. I was wondering how you created the emitter boxes they were incredible because they emitte 2 different kinds and they don't show the fog gas also they do it in a rotational pattern.

Overall Score.

Just had this level recommended via a PSN message, and gave it a whirl.

What can I say? It was wonderful. The platforming and mechanisms were original, fun, and entertaining. I haven't had this much fun in LBP for a long while. I just have to ask, though... how long have you been dabbling with the editor? I see that you have two recent levels, and nothing else... this is definitely not the work of a beginner.

Very well done.

Also, it looks like you get to duke-it-out with mrsupercomputer for the honors of best creator from St. Louis!

I actually found this level from Monstahr's comment in the newest Community Spotlight... I should really thank him for that!

This level was absolutely fantastic! The obstacles were absolutely original and your use of emitters astounds me. Levels like this are what wake me up from my non-creating slumber. Excellent work... I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it.

So of course I gave it 1 star and tagged it boring.

This was a top-notch level. I apologize I couldn't devote my full attention to it as I had to take a call while making my way through it. I gave it 5 stars and a heart.

The level had very clean yet very pleasant look and vibe to it. I like the subtle use of stickers. The level design was excellent, it had a good flow--with the zig-zagging and grabbing switches in order to advance. The rotating circle thingy with the emitting boxes was pretty original and inspiring. It was fun. The only critiques I can come up with is the challenge was minimal and while the look was clean and consistent it could have been more interesting--but that's just my personal taste.

For a newcomer this is pretty phenomenal. I could only have wished of making such a quality first level.

Just played your level and I thought it was mighty excellent. Exactly what I felt like playing, something simple, charming and fun. You got the perfect lenght and perfect difficulty too. It was a blast to play.
I really like that you pulled off some original look there because let's face it, many levels are similar and a way to large marjority are "dark" if you get what I mean. I loved to play a bright level of a look i've never seen before. Keep up your excellent work!

This level was brilliant and i hope to see more from you soon. I love how everything was really whimsical, you drew the picture of what the inside of a genies bottle would look like. I like how you stickered the backrounds behind the obstacles to look different. I have a couple favorite parts, the magic bridge really cool, i liked the falling platforms and am confused as how you did it, and of course the emitter circle is crazy cool. The design of the genie was great.

There is nothing bad to say about this level except that it ended! 5 stars and hearted!

Hey there Lockstitch, I have this level a go, and I have to say, I was not disappointed in the least.

Story/Dialog

+ Not a whole lot of dialog, but that's ok. Great levels needn't speak, the players will speak for them.

Gameplay

+ Countless unique and challenging platforming elements
+ Tons of neat tricks that really look like "magic"
+ All of the platforming is fun, and none of it is frustrating

Design and Aesthetics

+ The design is astoundingly detailed, right down to the lights when you go behind the filigree
+ Excellent use of stickers to highlight the landscape
+ Stickers with low contrast are easy on the eyes and don't take away from the rest of the level
+ Everything is flawlessly corner-edited and fits together like a mesh

Final Thoughts
You must've spent a lot of time on this level, and it clearly shows. At its core, it's a fun and challenging platformer that's easy on the eyes. What else can I say? Good show.

I just have one question: How did you make the extending bridge and the rotating circle? What I'm referring to is the boxes that move and leave a "trail" of smaller boxes. Is it as simple as an emitter that emits multiple boxes with a set lifetime, or is it a little more in-depth than that?

Final Score:

Nice level, but I don't think I found it as impressive as what others may have said...the coloring scheme is what bugs me most, and the music doesn't really fit too well, in my opinion.

Game play was very good and the magic effects were excellent.

5 stars in-game, 4 stars on LBPC.

The emitter illusions in the level are pretty simple. One emitter for each emitted item which is triggered by a mag key when the larger decorated block moves over it.

Also, thanks for the frank opinion W. Evil, i too was unsure about the music, but I just couldn't find one that I really thought fit well. So I picked one I thought went well enough with the theme and pacing. If enough people tell me they think its a terrible fit then maybe I'll reinvest some time and change it up.

Thanks for the feedback of "The Hero Chronicles LV4 The Lost Lagoon". That was an brilliant level and well polished. The gameplay is simply jaw-dropping and the genie character is well made. You did an amazing job on the emitting stuff too. Thanks for showing me this great level. 5 stars and a heart.

Great level. Two things you might want to fix:
1) Part with spawning bridges where you can drop down a layer to skip 2 of the bridges
2) 1 or 2 parts where falling makes you need to redo a few obstacles, which can get annoying.

Other than that great level, 5 stars and heart

Positives:
Your entire level looked great! I loved the materials you selected and the way you edited them all together. You maintained a consistent theme throughout the level which looked great! I really enjoyed your platforming, and though a lot of your elements were similar to a lot of story mode levels, you put them together in a way that was still fun to play. I loved the fact that you kept certain themes throughout, such as all your moveable platforms having the little curls on them, and all your jump platforms were the same color. It made it very easy to move quickly through the level. I also thought the length of the level was impressive. I also liked your sound effects. I was especially impressed by how well some of the sound effects matched the length of time it took platforms to fall, etc. You did a wonderful job of using emitters/demiters for some fun game play.

I also thought your genie was nicely done.

I loved the section where the entire area turned 90?, then you pulled the switch to have the tiny jump platforms fall to make a stairway! Great stuff!! I also liked the ending animation sequence. You really put together some great stuff!

Suggestions:
I really don't have any suggestions other than the fact that the game play was a little on the easy side for my tastes. I would love to see you put out a level with some RPG or puzzle elements as I have a feeling you would come up with some really great stuff.

I'll give you :star::star::star::star::star: for visual presentation, and :star::star::star::star::star: for some unique experiences. I rated your level :star::star::star::star: and a <3. I also gave you a <3 as a creator as I want to see what else you come up with!!

Keep up the great work! I look forward to seeing more.

the simplicity of the design coupled with the shear technical brilliance that was included in the level was awesome!
it flowed really nicely and you have included some amazing ideas,
i'm still sratching my head as to how you did some of the platform move,....i guess being in a genie bottle it was probably magic LOL,

the way you used all 3 layers having you weave in and out of them was refreshing, the sound choices and consistant design through out was nailed perfectly
the creation of the genie character was nicely done. and the platforming was fun without being overly complicated.

:star::star::star::star::star: + <3 and <3 as a creator as well!

MUST PLAY!

Great level and amazing mechanisms. I was particularly impressed with the arched bridge and similar circular section. I've had LBP since day one, nearly 2 years, and I still can't do stuff like that. I know it's with emitters but how do you set the position of them to be in exactly the right place so the moving part isn't in the way of them being emitted ?? especially when you need some dark matter attached to them somewhere.

The only negative I would say is the multiplayer problem as previously mentioned. Probably the easiest way around that is just to put the checkpoints in more user friendly positions.

I am honestly not one to be critical on a level, so I am just going to give you what I thought of the level

IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! This is most definitely my new favorite level! One thing that I love about this level is the fact that I am asking myself how you built it and when I go and see your level icon I think about it even more and even try to replicate it. All of the motions of the platforms were so smooth. You used the perfect materials and the perfect colors for the level, I understand that some people didn't like the color scheme and if you really want to change it, then go for it because for me the gameplay is always what really counts. I loved your style too. Also the story was very simple (this is a good thing ) I realized that most people like to play rather than read and I think you only added one speech bubble in that entire level. I saw your level and it sounded cool but I never expected anything like this. Congratulations on the 5 stars on your level and making it all the way to the highest rated page, you seriously deserve it. I can't wait to see more from you. 7 stars and a heart

Hey guys! I really appreciate all the feedback. As such I've made some very minor changes, I added a few checkpoints to help with the multiplayer death problem and toned the music down to only the magical/arabian sounding parts b/c many said the music felt off. Hopefully this helps rectify the negatives people have suggested. Thanks again!2010-07-28 20:12:00

I loved this level! It looks beautiful and the gameplay flows really well.

There was one problem at the bit where you pull switches and a trail of platforms appears, and then disappears. If you die, then the switches are already pulled. The paths still appear, but it is unclear when they appear, so I found myself jumping into fire a lot.

I rated :star::star::star::star::star: and gave a <3.

That was a nice time that you gave me with this level. There is lot of stuff that I really like: The visuals, the plattforming, the structure of this level, the atmosphere and so on. I was really impressed by the spawning bridge and the wheel-like spawning obstacle with the little walkway in the center - very innovativ!

There are just two little things that couldn't impresse me in the way the mentioned things did: the stickers in the background - don't know why, but they look a bit misplaced to me and (lol) the music HAHA... I made bad experience with this music in the lbp-main game :-) hehe... I think that a theme with a stronger mystic touch would be better to enhance the atmosphere. But this is just a little crappy thought in my brain :-)

Nevertheless, an outstanding level - it was fun to play and it has been cool to see whats coming next - you have a plattforming top notch level here, Sir !

Crystal clear: :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 everything else would be out of this world.

Hey man! I gave this level a try the other day and I just remembered to give you some feedback on it!

The level was absolutely amazing! I loved it! And you were right, you definitely did include some things in your level that I've never seen anywhere else on LBP. I don't even know how you got half the things in your level to work...I just know that it has something to do with emitters. Man, I thought I was getting good at logic! This was just crazy! The visuals were awesome and went perfect with the level (so did the music).

At the part where the level turned on its side I was pretty darn suprised! I wasn't expecting that at all and it got me pretty excited! I had something like that in my PSP level but that turned upside down, and you made more use of this than I did.

This was an AMAZING level and it is now one of my favorites, if not my favorite on LBP. I gave you :star::star::star::star::star: five stars and one heart for the level <3 and one for you as a creator <3. Thanks for such an awesome level!

No wonder this level is on first page. This totaly deserves it place there.
Good:
+Gameplay: It must have took a long time to make all those tricks like the emitter wheel (dunno what to call it) and emitted bridge. Totaly first class work!
+Visuals: Very good use of MGS materials and arabic stuff.
+You used wilderness intro to bring good atmosphere to the level
+Character. I excepted genie be a man but no. Well it doesn't really bother because she looked so good. All little details you made to him.
+Ending. Surprised me. I thaught you would get out of bottle before ending came but it was cool anyway. First class again..
Bad:
-I dont know did you mean this to be possible but I skipped the part in video's 2:12 - 2:36
Critic: 5 stars and heart. Tagged brilliant. I will play it again someday!

Amazing level . There are a lot of great ideas, with my favourite being the emitted platforms. The visuals are very clean and appealing. At first the the level seemed good, but as I progressed it just got better and better with more unique and well thought out mechanics being used. Great job :star::star::star::star::star:<3.2010-07-31 14:12:00

Anyway, loved it, and you should make more, and I should play them.

Fantastic level that had me scratching my head at parts. Not because it was difficult, but because I was thinking, "How did they do that!?'

Really brilliantly made, rivaling Mm standards any day. It had a jackofcourse esque to it and, upon reading the description of your other level, makes me wonder if you and he are the same.....if not, consider that a HUGE compliment!

Anyway :star::star::star::star::star:'s and a <3

This was such a great level! I loved the choice of materials, stickers, and decorations, and consistent use of those throughout the game. There were also repeated gameplay elements throughout the levels, which was great for continuity but done in a way to keep it original. The bridge and spinning wheel were a great piece of logic. This game had it all; artistic atmosphere, fun gameplay, and flawless logic. 5 stars!2010-08-03 02:49:00

What everyone else already said. Thanks so much for sharing this amazing level! I've only had LBP for a week or so, and this is one of the handful of levels I've come across in my short time that rivals or surpasses those designed by MM.

One small thing (and it certainly could have just been something I did?) to report in case you aren't aware of it:
It was at the big seesaw, after you pull the switch to form a staircase in the background. I jumped near the top of the staircase and fell into a pit just to the right of the top of the staircase. Had to restart to continue.

Surprising indeed! I kept going through the level and found myself repeating "WOW!" or "NO WAY!" every single time I pulled a switch. I actually thought the first switch was a point bubble that I couldn't quite reach so I kept trying to jump across the first part, but to no avail. I think the most surprising and honestly amazing thing was when the entire level turned. I have never seen something like that before. The sound effects of your level worked really well. They were well timed and went along with the feeling of magic happening in the bottle. I also think you did a really great job on the genie. She was cute. ^_^ I give you a solid :star::star::star::star::star:! Very well done. I'll have to check out some of your other work.2010-08-09 23:45:00

It seems unfair to compare your levels to Jackofcourse's as you definitely have your own style, but the similarity is remarkable. This is one of the best levels I've played, it had everything. I can usually figure out how to imitate everything I play, but your use of emitters is mindboggling. Thank you so much for this and Granite Gardens, keep it up! =D

Congrats on the spotlights, :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 for this, Granite Gardens, and you!

I played this level a while back its really great. The tecture and the design of the lvel is great and has good quality gameplay. I played all your level asn there all quite the same as this only the design is diffrent. This is my favorite of all of them though I played it about 4 times at the most I really like the motion as well as the creativity of the level. I really dislike platform levels but this one I like because its not really as anoying or unfairly repetative.

Positives: Gameplay, structure, switches, envroment.

Negatives: A bit repetative 5/5 F4F Inception 2 thx

It's really a good level and it deserves its 5 stars. The only negative thing I could say is that it's very easy. It has no tricky puzzles, enemies ore something like that. You just run through it easily and that's it. But I think that's what most of the people like. The visuals and gameplay are great.2010-11-04 22:44:00
