I just noticed as I went to my sent items folder that I wanted to add something to a PM conversation, I replied to message thinking that it would send to the other party. Instead I noticed it came to me from me.. oh I said to myself I can have a conversation with my alter ego! Utterly pointless feature but I thought I might let you know in case you didn't already.

Well I've done the same thing. It's because you sent from the 'sent items'. It will 'reply' to the address at the top of the PM which, in this case, was yours as you were technically replying to a message you sent. Confused? In that instance you need to forward it to the other person, or simply reply to the recipient's PM. Unless of course you like to converse with yourself. I do sometimes, but not via PM as I have precious little room left in my inbox as it is.

It does seem like a silly feature, but I've used it to leave myself notes before. We really wouldn't be doing anyone a favor by removing the ability to send yourself a message. Just keep an eye on the recipient field whilst sending a message, and remember that you can always change it manually.
