Seeking the Meaning : Part 2 - The Great TreeAsbestos101
Unable to answer the question "What is fun?", your journeys have taken you inside The Great Tree to ask the spirit that dwells within... Unfortunately, the Tree's inhabitants are less than useful...

I'll F4F the first 8-10 or so people that leave feedback here as well, you know me, you'll get your 'moneysworth' of a review if you invest

Very good level. Good visuals, good choice of music, and very good & enjoyable gameplay.

Some of the details make this level really unique, I'm thinking of things like the spiderweb, the stabbing frog or the escape-bottle. The frogs are quirky characters that lend a lot of atmosphere to the tree.

Gameplay in the beginning, the platforming and barrel-dodging is a bit hard. (Harder then the rest of the level). Perhaps add a bit more light, here to make the pathway just a little more clear.
Apart from that: the gameplay is perfect. With cool stuff like the platforms that you shoot down by shooting the wheels, and then using the button to make them rise. Even the fly collection mini-game works real good: the well-planned layout of the complex keeps backtracking to a minimum.

Funny conclusion to the story. (Won't repeat it there to avoid spoilers.) It will be interesting to see where you take it from here.

Fantastic stuff. Five stars and hearted.

If you could take a look at one of my newest levels, "Drones of Genius Loci", or "Kurtz and the Dead City of Fabul"; that would be great.

This is a must play! Seriously...go play now!

This level was just...I don't have words for this level. The platforming in this level was just perfectly placed. this reminds me of the typ of levels Tobs08 makes....which is a intuitive platforming segment galore. You are now on my radar of creators to watch for now on . The puzzles were nicely implemented too (the fly puzzle, I LOL'ed on the blind frog and the spider). Also i got 1st place but Im going to tell you why. Theres no need for a "what I like section" so Ill get straight to the improvements.

Improvements:
- The boss fight is broken. The opening where you grab the gun needs to be changed or fixed somehow. I grabbed a gun and stood on the left edge of the floor and took the whole right side out without moving. This can be a problem for true high scores. I think I would have got the same score though as I have figured out its pattern and took the left side out without dying too.

Well, I wouldn't say the boss fight is 'broken' but i'll admit that's a pretty bad exploit. I'll get on it upon the TV being free.2010-07-22 16:25:00

- continued since I ran out of space XD

- Also areas with 3 or more speech bubbles need to be slowed down. I played the level 3 times and couldn't read all the dialogue still .

But still, this is one of the best levels I played, ever. Theres no doubt that this level deserves 5 stars and a <3. You get a creator heart from me on this one. I can't wait for the rest of the series.

I would be glad to get your opinion on my level Kinetic Crisis. The link to the thread is in my signature

Aha, what a ko-inky-d!nk! That level was next on my play list anyways! I'll need to make a note to leave you feedback then

So, in summary, things to fix include tweaking the gun platform on the boss fight and slowing down some quick magic mouths? Roger wilco.

(PS : Does that mean I get the honour of being in your sig then? )

Awesome level. Tons of unique ideas and the graphics are awesome.

2 things:

1. The flies that you collect sometimes break. This can be little things(like a leg) or the whole thing will dissapear.

2.Is this the last one? Or is there more? I hope there's more.

Well, yea its not broken but you know know what I mean, lol. Oh and the opening seen was brilliant. How the frog hops away and starts talking was brilliant. Yea I think you raised the bar so your in that list of favorite creators now. Hope you enjoy playing my level

Its funny how I decided to do a turtle themed level probably as you were doing one with frogs. I must say your frogs are much better than my turtles. lol.

This was fantastic. I loved the frogs and how they were used for platforming purposes. I liked that they were all unique and were alive with personalities. It really brought you into the atmosphere of the level. I thought the lighting and the materials chosen fit perfectly with the frogs.

Level design-wise I thought it was brilliant. The fetching the flies part was ingenious. I have to say I am truly jealous of your designing skills. The boss with the brains was another brilliant idea, instead of just going with paint switches.

The only thing I can suggest is to just go with infinite checkpoints, yeah I know it does take away from the challenge, but it frustrates noobs less.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of this series. This installment really got me more intrigued into the story. I look forward to more from you dude.

Oh yeah, I'm currently #2 on the scoreboard. How did that happen? LOL.

Absolutely loved this level, as well as the first one.

The only problems I had with it were:
The "good" frog hoping away too fast, so i had to run back and check out all of the scenery I missed.

Ringing the bell before I knew that the frog was blind.

The section right after jumping over the barrels, I jumped up on a twig and made it to the platform on the right, but I guess there are grab squares underneath the platforms; didn't notice those.

Took out the entire right side of the boss with no fear of being hit.

Also, I know the layout is non-linear in some places, but It would be nice to know that the one frog wanted the flies before you climb higher.

It may sound selfish, but I really hope you don't work on any other concepts other than finishing this series,

Can't wait for the next one.

Haha, sorry but I don't think I can make him go slower than he is doing, if I did that then all the young sacks would get very impatient.

Ringing the bell before I knew that the frog was blind.
Sackboys will be sack boys... they'll always grab onto dangly thingys if they see them. I suppose I could attach a rod to the beater and attach it to dissolve material but i'm not sure if that would annoy people that would have gotten it right first time around.

The section right after jumping over the barrels, I jumped up on a twig and made it to the platform on the right, but I guess there are grab squares underneath the platforms; didn't notice those.
Yeah, I've flattened out that twig a bit to try and avoid people getting super jumps. I guess I could put an R1 sign under it

Took out the entire right side of the boss with no fear of being hit.
I've fixed that now, I increased the distance the overhang goes out just enough so you can't quite get a clear shot anymore.

Also, I know the layout is non-linear in some places, but It would be nice to know that the one frog wanted the flies before you climb higher.
Ahh I put points down in the hopes that people would take the bait and run right straight off. I'll think about putting some invisible dissolve in.

It may sound selfish, but I really hope you don't work on any other concepts other than finishing this series,

I think i'm going to do a standalone level next then continue with this. Before this series is over though, you'll probably visit at least two more locations to speak with other wise beings. However, they'll probably be contained within a level each, hopefully no more two parters

And thanks.

Is this the last one? Or is there more? I hope there's more.

This is not the last one, as I said earlier in this post ^^ I'm going to make at least two more locations before I think about rounding it off. Again, hopefully no two parters this time, just quick standalone levels

Hiya-

I'm surprised that I forgot I played this earlier, I must be going crazy.

On to the level, it was amazing, the previous ones in the series were cool, but you have struck gold with this one! Seriously, there was a ton of innovative new ideas in here, climbing on frogs' tongues was my favorite. The level reminded me of Mammet-boxes levels, but I don't mean this level was similar to his, I mean it has a cool new atmosphere, awesome characters, and some nifty new gameplay ideas, like his do. Great job man!

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed the level.

I've never published a level that has been actually brimming to the max of the thermo before, like, you can't add anything else it overheats.

Ok, so I played this charming level 3 times now and think I know it pretty well... The final time, when I killed the boss-- I had 11,000 pts when I slipped off the platform to my untimely death. Untimely, because it was my last man... How sad am I?

So the look of the level is charming ( as earlier stated) lots of fog for atmosphere... the frogs lend it great character and the platforming is fun and fairly easy... ironic as I am yet to finish... The level design is what really works for this level... getting from A to B is easy-peasey cause of great design... nifty designed frogs, cool triple layer lifts, fantastic mechanics!!! And a sure-fire shot to wind up on everybody's hearted list... Not alot of platforming to be found here... but a WHOLE LOT OF HEART. More endearing then part1, more fun then part1! I am however slightly disappointed I beat the stupidly simple boss and still died!

Just a reminder, you're not only fighting the cool boss in this one... (don't get careless like me) -- because your also battling the checkpoint.

I find it funny that Gravel dwells on the Great Tree.
This level was awesome. Beautifully designed, great scenery and characters, and still retaining that slightly swampy feeling from the first part. The seaweed really adds to it, and the fact that I was in a tree most of the time made me feel like I might fall off at any second. :S
The bottles of beer were well placed, and the bottle at the end was funny, although it landed upside down.

The boss fight was cool, but I thought that it could've used more direction, because when I shot 1 brain, another popped up, and I thought that it might go on forever and I'm doing something wrong. It was really well done though, and the great tree spirit hologram was beautiful! I gave the level 5 stars and a much well deserved heart!

Could you please leave F4F on my level "The Collector's Vacation Island"? Link is in signature.

I do have a question:

Do you draw out your ideas at all, or is it all done in create mode?

Yeah.
5 stars + level heart + creator heart.
I have played some of your other levels, but this one blows them out of the water.

Not sure if this is intentional, but you can get to the spider from the right glass path, instead of going out the tree.

It's not really super intentional, no. Nuclearfish found that out when he tested it, he didn't even know there WAS a path to the left, so I added that little ray of light coming through the gap as a visual indicator. I'll look at it in create mode, see if i can't tweak it though, thanks.

I sketched out all of up to the fly section on paper as well the boss but the bits between were done on the fly (what a horrible pun) so to speak.

I draw most things out.

First off i'd write down a list of things that I could potentially fit into the theme, defining characteristics of the frogs and such.

The only inklings of what the tree was going to be like inside was the 2 frogs at the end of part one, where one was puffing on his pipe with some bottles in the background!

There was one gameplay mechanic I was playing around with that I didn't include was haaving frogs dangling from the ceilings and you'd swing on their tongues but as you grab them they'd retract up so you would had to keep moving. Unfortunately that wasn't very multi player friendly so I ditched it (though I did keep an element of the idea with the big dopey frog at the begining )

And thanks

EDIT : these cool pages are killing me, sat here with 112 plays whilst 'IS THIS THE HARDEST LEVEL EVER?' sits there rocking with thousands of plays...and I don't want to have to sit there republishing to get any sort of attention, but I know my level is better than that :S

That was a great level Asbestos101. The architecture type level design is great and the search for flies are clever. The boss battle is excellent too even though we've been seeing a lot of paintinator driven boss battles but some like yours are great examples. Looking forward to see part 3.

Hey man! I just tried out your level and I thought that it was awesome! I played the first one before the second so most of the stuff made sense to me, but even if I hadn't done that everything probably still would've flown well for me and everything.

The visuals...were simply amazing! I loved the swamp theme and everything, and the lighting effects that you gave were spot on! You did a great job with all of that, and I was extremely impressed! The only thing that took away from the experience was my brother screaming in the background! The gameplay, I thought, was great to! I loved running around and having to some searching and whatnot to find those flies! I thought it went along great with the story, and everything.

Great job man! Keep up the good work!

Excellent work. I have only one issue - just as i passed the frog with wheel thing (i did not get time to read what he/she said), i was shot up to the next floor with no way back down (floor where you have to get flies). I'll play again and see.
Anyways- everything was brilliant. That was really fun. the atmopshere and lighting are really really good. It somehow reminded me of a jim henson movie (without muppets). I can't think of anything at the moment but if i think of anything else i'll let you know.
