Multi-Directional Object Controler

MDOC - Multi-Directional Object Controler sliding blocks of glass attached to a "Pit" that has a jetpack in it. Sackboy flys in a direction, the object goes that direction. How to make the MDOC: The Main Body- 1. USE GRID! 2. make a big box 3. cut a smaller box out of the bigger box 4. a smaller box ring to fix in the box ring you just made 5. attach the 2 box rings 6. make a sack boy sided box and cout out a hole in it The Sliders- 1. make 4 equal sized glass blocks to fit in first box ring - one for each side (shown in the picture as blue blocks) 2. attach springs from each block to the corasponding side of the "pit" 3. make the springs stiff and with 0.0 strength The Logic- 1. make TWO 3 way (or 2 way depending on use) switches on DIRECTIONAL 2. attach the grab part of each side of the switch to a wall or block with winches 3. make magnetic switches and keys on each side (as shown in pictore in red, yellow, green, and blue) 4. attack A to A, B to B, C to C, and D to D as shown in picture (ABCD are the magnetic switches and ABCD are are the winches attached to the 3 (or 2) way switchs - make sure the A and B are together (side and side) and C and D are together (up and down) http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=19718 Uses of MDOC: -Flying mini Games -Ball-to-the-hole Games -RPGs -Side Scrollers ~ Shooters ~ Racers ~ Fighters -Sniper Games -Other Mini Games Changes of MDOC: -To Pit: ~ Grabable ~ Covered ~ Checkpoint -To Springs: ~ Added Resist for Difficulty ~ +/- length for ease (depends on use) -To whole MDOC: ~Just up/down ~Just side/side ~Just up and side/side -To Switches: ~ Could be Proximity rather than magnetic ~ Could be 2 way rather then 3 way | 2010-07-21 20:28:00 Author: septamus112 Posts: 82 |
Couldn't you replace the magnetic keys and switches with 4 proximity switches on the outer edges, and remove the box and sliders? In effect, it would be a giant box that track's sackboy's movement in 4 directions. EDIT: Except you wouldn't be able to add resistance via the springs, but you get the idea. | 2010-07-23 02:40:00 Author: Rhombohedron Posts: 25 |
Wow, weird, I actually just made this yesterday. Only I used buttons in a tight box with a jet pack so you had 8 directions, left, right, up, down, up-left,up-right,down-left,down-right. It actually works pretty well, not perfect but it works. | 2010-07-23 08:15:00 Author: Unknown User |
If you stop moving does the box center itself again? | 2010-07-23 08:18:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |
Nice job on the diagram, however as I have put a lot of work into control schemes I can tell you that I can see that there are several disadvantages to this system (incidently, making it a proximity based system creates a greater chance of some of the below happening): - It's a bit large for putting in vehicles - If you make one of a size to fit into vehicles, the speed is limited to that of the jetpack. Mkae the vehicle go faster and sackboy is thrown into neutral or the trigger for the direction opposite to the way you intend to go. If you override this by making the input a grab, you may aswell get rid of the jetpack as all it does in this case in negate the weights of sackboy but adds resistence to movement. - When used remotely in respect to a vehicle, the vehicle range is limited to the screen unless you use a magoc mouth cutscene (although if confined to conveyor belt style side scrollers this should not be a problem). - If you want it to follown the object through some tracking system, then you encounter the speed issue again as when you push right to go right, the object will move, as will the input device, however unless the speeds are correct, that will simply move sackboy back into the neutral area of the controller. Don't despair though, try looking into what other players have done with or without jetpacks in their control schemes. @SR20DETDOG: No, the system above has 0 strength springs. Adjusting this might help. | 2010-07-23 09:57:00 Author: croissantbuncake Posts: 572 |
The idea isnt vehicles, at all. is something you put behind a wall to control somthing in front of the wall. But i do see how it can be a little bad.. Also i found a way to do it without switches at all :] and @ SR20DETDOG: it can. just edit the springs and it can | 2010-07-23 15:24:00 Author: septamus112 Posts: 82 |
I've tried this before (not the same design, though. A little bit different) but it didn't work. Either the jetpack was too strong or the springs bounced back too much. | 2010-07-31 06:43:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
you make the springs 0.0 strength, thats how it allows you to control it with ease | 2010-07-31 20:42:00 Author: septamus112 Posts: 82 |
Alternatively stiff zero strength pistons can be used. | 2010-07-31 23:56:00 Author: croissantbuncake Posts: 572 |
