3D in LBP 2

Archive: 14 posts

So i've just noticed that in the qore video in which LBP 2 trailer is shown they mention about the 3D layer glitch, so i wonder what will Mm do about it. Does anyone knows about it?2010-07-21 03:41:00

I'm not sure, but Mm will probably make it an option. Didn't bakscratch tell them how to do it?2010-07-21 03:43:00

They would like to keep it but can't guarantee anything. We'll just have to wait and see.2010-07-21 03:48:00

They haven't really said much about it. Just that they know about it...2010-07-21 03:55:00

If Mm didn't do away with the layer glitch already, it just might stay. Mm said (I think) that even they are using it.2010-08-14 22:18:00

I just wish they would make it official. If they could just make an easier way to do it, I don't bother with the current 3D layer glitch because it's too confusing for me. Not that I'm a noob or anything. 2010-08-14 23:50:00

The second level in the Marvel pack used it. ;D

No, it didn't. They just moved the back layer at a lower speed. Check for yourself by putting tall decorations on it. I've recreated it myself, and while a nice trick, it's not the layer glitch.

I think it's a sort of underhanded jab saying that we don't NEED the layer glitch to give effective perspective effects.

Since I don't like using glitches, I did something similar. I built small rooms and took pics of them to stick on doorways giving the illusion that there was depth to the room. It wasn't as complicated as what Mm did, but it was effective nonetheless. With a little work I was able to add depth by sticking a photo on the back wall of a room and then taking a picture of it, it's possible to make it seem to have enough depth that all the walls meet in the center, but you lose a lot of clarity by taking too many pictures of pictures. I instantly noticed the trickery that Mm was using since I had played around with the same concept.

it should be an official tool like a button in the pop-it, turn 3D on/off2010-08-15 06:19:00

You need to take into account the burden this places on the graphics engine, especially in super-deep levels like the 3D city.

If they're making it official, they'll likely limit how many super-foreground/background vertices you can place more strictly than in the main layers.

I think a reasonable choice would be to simply allow for 30 extra no-physics layers in the background and 10 or so in the foreground (not counting thin layers) instead of a pre-designed background.
