I'm planning on making a top down shooter (or over the shoulder depending on how good the new camera tools are). It will have 6 classes that can be chosen at the beginning: Rifleman, Submachine Gunner, Shotgunner, Sniper, Recon, and Special Ops. It will have crouching and jumping with a melee attack and power ups. Any suggestions to make it better? Or possibly for a name?

All the classes will have unique traits, equipment, and special abilities. And there will be a variety of maps and, possibly, vehicles. In addition, I hope to make a 4 player co-op mode and zombie mode (No game is complete without zombies).

I was thinking of a similar project as well. Is this inspired by Alien Swarm though? Sounds remarkably similar to it + my project IS a remake of Alien Swarm.

Never heard of Alien Swarm. And the new name for it is "Tabletop Troopers". It's set in an office cubicle with tiny soldiers made from office supplies and scraps (paper clips, pencaps, scrap cardboard, etc.), in a battle for the title "King of Miscellaneous Items". It will be slightly simplified to make its logic lag free and to add more maps and classes to the mix. The level is inspired by my tendency to goof off in the classroom. More details will be available at a later date.

Well anyhow I think you should check out alien swarm anyways. It could load you up with top down co-op inspiration! Check out my "Alien Swarm: LBP2" thread. It has a link to the trailer and website.
