Rating own threads?
Archive: 14 posts
I've noticed that the creator of a thread can rate their own thread, I think that should be turned off because a horrible thread could be rated :star::star::star::star::star: by the creator!! | 2010-07-20 18:14:00 Author: anoken ![]() Posts: 1654 |
i noticed that too. I was expierimenting with it. but i dont think rating is seriously ever used. | 2010-07-20 18:47:00 Author: Snrm ![]() Posts: 6419 |
You aren't rating the OP, you are rating the thread. Say for example, you ask for some help and get awesome responses, it would be perfectly valid for the OP to rate the conversation ![]() | 2010-07-20 18:57:00 Author: rtm223 ![]() Posts: 6497 |
Still, I think rating threads should just be removed, honestly, who actually uses it? | 2010-07-20 19:04:00 Author: Doopz ![]() Posts: 5592 |
Still, I think rating threads should just be removed, honestly, who actually uses it? I do and it's also useful in the level showcase! | 2010-07-20 19:06:00 Author: Alec ![]() Posts: 3871 |

Still, I think rating threads should just be removed, honestly, who actually uses it? Umm I think a lot of people use it, even if not i think more people should so viewers can tell whats good and what isn't | 2010-07-20 19:11:00 Author: anoken ![]() Posts: 1654 |
i guess when you rate your thread 5 star, people see it more cause it pops-out more to the eye. | 2010-07-20 20:38:00 Author: Snrm ![]() Posts: 6419 |
To be honest, I always assume that the OP has rated it 5 stars themselves as self-promotion is a bit of a hobby round here (and justifiably so in some instances). So I really take little notice of the rating, unless the thread happens to be a sticky. | 2010-07-20 22:44:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 ![]() Posts: 1567 |
Personally, I like the fact that you are allowed to weigh in on your own thread. Most people don't bother to pay any mind to rating a thread while they are reading it, unless they feel strongly about it. I have noticed, however that threads that cover controversial material get down-rated because someone doesn't like the opinion of the author, rather than the quality of the discussion. I'm glad that a thread author is able to compensate for things like that by having a vote. Yes, If I see a 5-star thread with only a few visits, I assume that the author self-rated it, But that also tells me that it was important enough that the author did it. Threads with no rating at all, tend to suggest apathy. | 2010-07-21 17:02:00 Author: swanbrown ![]() Posts: 898 |
Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you rate the thread? And also on a side note, how do you tag? | 2010-07-22 06:29:00 Author: Mastadom ![]() Posts: 195 |
Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you rate the thread? And also on a side note, how do you tag? I'm not sure about tagging, but you can rate a thread by clicking "Rate this thread" at the top right of the thread. It's right next to search thread and Display | 2010-07-22 15:47:00 Author: anoken ![]() Posts: 1654 |
And also on a side note, how do you tag? You don't. ![]() | 2010-07-22 16:21:00 Author: Doopz ![]() Posts: 5592 |
You don't. ![]() @jpkiid: I think it was an old feature. The author of a thread would have to tag his thread so it'd appear in Search when someone was looking up that topic. I assume the trophy will be removed or the feature will be re-added. | 2010-07-22 17:55:00 Author: Incinerator22 ![]() Posts: 3251 |
