Suggestion: Material Property Changer

Archive: 9 posts

Hey guys, I have a suggestion that if Mm wanted to, could be realistically put into LBP2.

Material Property Changer

I, personally, love cardboard. With a passion. I love cardboard so much, I want to make everything out of cardboard. But.. Sadly, I can not.
):

I can not grab cardboard. Cardboard can not float in place magically. And cardboard can not dissolve.

So, I'm pretty much screwed, right? Well, not exactly. Thanks to Aya, I have all the basic materials in my goodies bag, their properties on the far left, and how you want the material to look like (including cardboard) on the right. So all is good. But it's still a hassle having to choose what I want going through all those steps.

I just wish that in LBP2 there'll be a way to do that without resorting to glitches.

Yeah, I was thinking of a tool similar to that.
We'll still have our basic materials and everything, but at the top of the pop-it will be a create material option, with several options to make unique materials.

This could include:
Weight: Very Light, Light, Heavy, Very Heavy, Weightless etc.
Texture: Simple enough, whether it has the texture of basic metal, blue wood, cardboard, sponge etc. etc.
Timbre: The noise it makes when you walk on it, whether it's clangy like metal, soft like sponge, woody like wood etc. (I'm not very good with words)
Pattern: Whether it has the pattern of stainless steel or knitted sponge or whatever. And you could make your own pattern by capturing a collab of stickers.

Just an idea though, doubt it'll happen. :/

I think that only changes what it can do though. I.E. Bouncyness, Friction etc.....( Those are the only one's I've seen) But I think That yeah, they should add some sort of custom material creator. Where you could just get the different types of options from all the different materials. For example. The texture from Iron, Weight of cardboard, and dissolve property from dissolve. Something, like that. that way all the textures and options are already built in the game. ( at least I think that's how it works)2010-07-21 03:42:00

1) You cannot make cardboard grabbable

2) You can make cardboard float

3) You can make cardboard bouncy

This is true.

The texture from Iron, Weight of cardboard, and dissolve property from dissolve.

Iron Material + Gravity Switch + Destroy Switch = Win!

Why do that when you could just:
- Hover popit cursor over material;
- Tweak button;
- Change definitions;
- Save the material for later use;
- Give that material as prize. (somebody remeber this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=30128-Costume-Prize-Bubbles)?)

No wiring, no having to move switches all around, no credit card required.

Because then you'd have bazillions of materials that are the exact same things from people who are so proud of making "Cardboard that floats" or "Floaty that sinks". I'd rather be able to find materials that are useful in my Goodies bag, thank you, instead of wading through the crap that a material editor would produce.

Besides, there are so many things you can do with the materials you already have, there's nothing you can't do without it that you could with it.

- Hover popit cursor over material;
- Tweak button;
- Change definitions;
- Save the material for later use;
- Give that material as prize.

Why do this when you can:

- Open Tools bag;
- Add several switches;
- Tweak to your liking;
- Save the object for later use;
- Give that object as prize.

Tada, I did the exact same thing you did, in the same number of moves, but now I can;

- Tweak the settings to a much more specific purpose

- Add another ability that you can't do with simply a material (collision detection anyone?)

- Put those settings into a microchip which I think is a lot more versatile way to give something to someone than a material.
