Your reason to create great levels?

Archive: 26 posts

what would your reason to be to make great levels? is it to have a laugh, to make a work of art, to pass the time or to show of your skills.

Well here my reason to make a level, it will be to ake the mick out of thing or make a comdey level, or to make profit, as we all know they might give people chance to sell their levels if they are really good, my theory to this would be a dlc with lot of maps

i want to know your reasons, mine might be selfish but money motivates me, that the only reason why i want to do well at school

For me it's because I want to challenge someone (if I've made a tough level) or because I've got a story to tell with a story driven level. That's my main motivations.2008-10-13 19:41:00

- Creating things is fun
- I want to try my hand at level designing
- I believe I am good at it and want to show everyone what I'm capable of doing
- I like the recognition
- I want to contribute
- I want to challenge people (in creating better levels and in taking my levels on)
- If I'm able to provide a good time for others, it makes me happy too

So many reasons to make great levels. Well first and foremost, creating levels is actually fun. It's fun to flesh out your ideas and work around new ones. It's also fun to play your own levels of course. I also find it nice to spend hours and hours building up your level plan and then have it enjoyed by tons of people. It's nice to challenge, amaze, inspire, bemuse, amuse, boggle and of course entertain all who come across your level.2008-10-13 23:00:00

You make levels because people expect you to? That doesn't make any sense. :kz:

I don't know, maybe to try to get noticed on the LBP community but it is sort of hard when someone doesn't play your level right when you post it.2008-10-16 00:25:00

I played the "world of colour" or something like that and it was amazing. I searched their other levels and I realized it was really good because of the decorations and the different things to do rather than just jump. So that is what I am aiming for - different, fun, unexpected, decorated levels2008-10-16 03:29:00

Part of it is for me, part of it is for the players.

I want to be recognized as a good Creator, at least. I'm not asking for some amazing title, but it's nice to know that people look forward to your next work. It already happened with my Beta level...and it feels great. To know you actually did something good, and that people liked it and want more... It's really motivating. In short, it's the recognition.

Then, there's the other part of me where I just want to make levels, giving people a story for them to play in. Something a little bit more than just "go from point A to B"... Something for them to immerse themselves in, even if just slightly. To create a world they can be a part of, while still making it fun. I want to provide people a fun and challenging experience, something worthwhile and memorable. Levels that make them go "Hey, I played this yesterday, wanna try it with me?", or "You remember that one level?..."

I guess those are my reasons...

I said in a previous thread, that ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, I wanted to make my own games. This is it. Twenty-one years of life experience, watching movies, playing video games, hearing music. Being frustrated with video games, then the thrill of discovering what to do. Hundreds of games worth of saying to myself "That was a good game/idea/concept, EXCEPT..." I want to pour every ounce of my soul into a creation that, even if nobody else ever plays, will bring me satisfaction, knowing I made the level exactly as I wanted it to be, and it finally exists.

If they started letting people charge for their levels everything would decend into crapness. Sure, you might make money, but only if your levels are extremely good. Plus, everyone would start charging, and you wouldn't be able to play community levels without paying. Is that worth it to you? I doubt they would do that to us.

Personally, I would do it for the satisfaction, and knowing I created something people enjoy.

I doubt that they would just let us make levels and have people pay for them, the people at MM would probably test levels with good scores and then allow them to give out their level for money2008-10-17 03:07:00

I want to create some great levels for pretty much the same reasons as everyone. It's mostly a challenge to myself though. To see what I can create with the tools given.

I doubt they'd let everyone charge. I imagine that type of thing may be reserved for those who can create awesome original levels.
