A friend of mine just asked me if Move would be required to play LBP2 and though I don't think it will be, I wasn't 100% sure. Anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance!

No I doubt it. I think you'll only need it for the levels where you move that pink material around for the other player.

It is completely optional. There are however going to be things that you could use move for in the story mode. I forget where I heard that but I am pretty sure from two different magazines.

It was in interviews.. completely optional. The Move will only be used for certain mini-games, However this is not fully confirmed. The developers were saying they would "like" to be able to do this, but are not completely sure yet if it will be possible.

If it is required I hope Mm comes up with a pop-it like thing if you don't have the move for play mode.
