Piston Woes

Archive: 5 posts

Problem:
OK, I don't understand this... I have one dynamic object and one static object. I'm trying to connect a piston to both of them in order for the dynamic object to move. Simple, right? Well, to LittleBigPlanet PSP, it's not simple...I've tried connecting the piston to the static object first and vice versa, but the piston just won't connect the second time! Tried changing the material of the dynamic object and I still can't connect the other side of the piston. Any help or loopholes to get this to work?

Simple Situation:
Trying to connect one 13-cornered static object made of sci-fi panels material to a rectangular dynamic object made of sci-fi panels material using a simple, ordinary, everyday LBP PSP piston...

...Help?

This happens to me A LOT. What seems to work for me is after you have connected it to the first object, instead of attaching it right after that, just move it around in an empty area so its not "reaching" for anything. Move it around for a few seconds, and try to connect it then. Hope this helps!2010-07-19 13:21:00

Ah, yes this is an annoying little semi-bug of the game. The static/dynamic setting doesn't really have anything to do with it. For some reason it sometimes has trouble figuring out where to connect pistons/rods/strings/etc. when there's too much complicated stuff nearby.

You either need to move the objects you're trying to connect out into the open, or move nearby objects away. Ideally you want a half screen worth of space between your connection point and the next object - this should solve the problem.

Yeah, Rockets, Rods, everything seems to be affected by this really annoying bug for me. The thing is, I have the "frame" of my level already finished, I'm just working on the guts. And the guts are so closely knit (thumbs up for pun :]) that I can't move anything out of the way. To solve it, I just had to leave the doors be and just add simple grab switch elevators. I was really disappointed that I couldn't do what I planned just because LBP PSP wouldn't let me. This happens a lot when I'm playing this game...

Anyway, thanks guys! Let's just hope Cambridge FINALLY decides to release a patch to solve the hundred or so bugs in this game!
