Hidy Ho Sackfolks! I have some excellent news for you! I know what your thinking: “Alright, you’ve got my attention, what is it I need to do to get one of these Award Stickers, or maybe even that cool case and sackboy?” Here's all you need to know:


The Turbo Pack! Level 7 for PSP:

Before you go into a fit of rage that we are requiring you to have the Turbo! Pack in order to take part in this competition, take a deep breath and then listen to this YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE THE TURBO! PACK!



What do you mean by Level 7?

Well, the idea of the competition is to make a sequel to one of the levels from the Turbo! Pack. Since there are 5 levels and a mini game in the Turbo! Pack, this will be the seventh, so it will be Level 7.

Just find one of the million videos showing the levels from the Turbo! Pack on YouTube (click HERE ( youtube.com/watch?v=XWlVvACd1Es) or HERE (youtube.com/watch?v=eL7g6hF0Fw8) to start), get a good idea about what makes it great, and then build a level of your own that feels like a sequel, be sure to include a race with a start and end gate somewhere in the level. Each Turbo! Pack level has a fun story element relating to toy warfare, so just keep that story rolling and add in vehicles of your own.

Feel free to use vehicles from the Turbo! Pack if you have them, but functioning unique vehicles will always earn more points. However, if you implement the Turbo! Pack vehicles in a way that is just plain fun and really makes the level shine, then the level could easily win you one of the excellent “Wheely Good Award” Stickers.




How do I go about making this sequel?

It’s completely up to you what you do with this. Not only can you pick from the five different levels from the Turbo! Pack for which to make a sequel to, but you can also choose how the level should play. It certainly doesn’t need to play just like the level it is related to, or it could play JUST like the level it is related to.

The important factor is to make it fun and make it really feel like it belongs in the Turbo! Pack.



How to Enter:

1: First you need LBP for PSP to enter
2: Deadline to publish your level is Sunday, Aug 29th 11:59 pm GMT (thats 4:59 pm Pacific time for you in the states)
3: Make a thread for your level (HERE) ( littlebignetwork.com/forumdisplay.php/30-Creativity-Planet-(PSP)) in the PSP Creativity Planet section of the forum. Be sure to put "RFTC" in the title of your thread. Include your level name, your PSN name and a brief description of your level in your post.



Rules:

1: Only one entry per person/PSN ID.
2: Your level must be a brand new level created for this competition, no pre-existing levels allowed.
3: The level must be a continuation of the TURBO! Pack levels and it must have at least one race with a starting gate and an ending gate somewhere in the level.
4: You can not republish your level once the deadline has passed. If you need to republish because of something serious, contact a moderator to get permission first.
5: Have fun!!!




Closing Comments:

~The case is an officially licensed product for PSP models 1000, 2000, 3000, sorry GO owners. It includes the case, a little stuffed sackboy, a cleaning cloth printed to look like burlap, a screen protector and some LBP stickers.

~ A thread listing all participants will be created in the PSP Creativity Planet section for easy access.

While a race is required, it doesn't really need to be the main focus of the level (I think). I am not judging this competition and I plan on making an entry. My main focus will not be the race so hopfully that doesn't hurt me. I want to focus on making it feel like a Turbo! Pack level sequel. In my opinion, if your level is a sequel to a level like Tanks a Lot or the submarine one, a race wouldn't make much sense since there aren't even races in those levels. So, while it is REQUIRED to have a race, I don't think that it needs to be the main focus.

On a side note, I AM NOT A JUDGE, so I am just giving thoughts here. Maybe the race will play a huge role. We will have to ask b-coli.		2010-07-19 03:56:00

Oh, make sure you guys use non-turbo pack materials when creating. Once finished with the level simply change them into the Turbo! materials you want.

Alrighty, I just chatted with b-coli who is running the competition, and this is what he said about the race:


the idea of the race is basically to fit the name, for all i care it could be a foot race(thats why in the banner i had a sackboy on foot running ) or use the gates in unique ways. The focus is making it a continuation of the turbo pack.

This should be great news to a lot of people because I had many people begging to be able to just have foot races in the Vehicle Triathlon. I'm guessing that I will be doing a foot race, but I haven't decided just yet seeing as I haven't even really started trying to build yet

If I am able to get a level done in time (which is going to be really tough to pull off considering my crazy life right now), then mine will be an actual entry. But even if I manage to make a good level, there are still 4 other stickers up for grabs. And I'm not too confident in my vehicle building skills seeing as I have NEVER made one, so I certainly wouldn't chalk me up as a winner

I would highly advise everyone to take this advice. I spent a few hours on a vehicle last night and I was very happy with what I came up with. I was even careful and kept a backup version of the level even though I was only working on a single vehicle. Well, today both saves won't load even though I checked the backup last night and it was fine. I used the metal camouflage material from the Turbo! Pack, and I would bet that that is what is causing my level to not load.

I have experienced all sorts of issues with levels, and this one is a bit different. Rather than loading a bit and then freezing, it just loads indefinitely. I'm glad that I only lost a few hours of work (and I can probably make it up in half an hour now that I've built it once) instead of days and days of work.

I would avoid the Turbo! Pack materials at all costs if I was you.		2010-07-19 08:57:00

Not using the turbo pack materials is really annoying...But I started to make a level before the pack came out as a sort of sequel. I Don't know if I want to revive it though...

I can see where you are coming from Sketch. I think that the important thing is to have a vehicle in your level. The whole point behind the Turbo! Pack was vehicles, so if you don't have a vehicle in your level then I don't think your level will feel much like a sequel to a Turbo! Pack level, and that will probably really hurt your level when it comes to judging time.

However, I don't think that a vehicle race should be required. Levels like Sub-Standard and Tanks-a-Lot would have felt strange if they had Vehicle Races thrown in since those were based off of slower moving military vehicles rather than racing vehicles. I think that it was a good decision to allow the player to decide if the vehicles in the level would be used for the race or not.

Does that make sense? I really understand where you are coming from, but with the level that I currently have planned I have no idea how a vehicle race would fit in well, so I would hate to think that I am required to have it when at least have the Turbo! Pack levels didn't even have vehicle races (I think).

There can be a vehicle in your level (without racing from gate to gate) and the race is on foot.

I have a question.

I created a vehicle for and entry into the last competition but never finished the entry. Subsequently, I published the vehicle alone to save it going to waste. I've now realised I have a good way of implementing the aforementioned vehicle into a brief sequence in a level for this competition. Would that be acceptable?		2010-07-21 18:21:00

I would think so. If my psp starts working, I plan on using one vehicle from my nonfineshed triathlon level.

I think it only means the level that needs to be new, not something small like a vehicle.

I have now 1 problem. I almost finished my level and i tested it, but when i went to edit the psp turned off. I didint play psp for 3 hours and then i went again play LBP PSP and again it turned off in the same part. I tried 6 times nothing didint work. i cant play it or edit it. It was my biggest level yet. I want to personally thank b-coli for running this thing. You have done a great job, and I think you should get a sticker too.

I don't know if you guy's know this, but I am a judge in this contest, and this is not going to be an easy decision, considering the levels that have been published.

I have already played 90% of these, and they are all incredible in their own right.

howdy again cory, i just replied to you asking this question on LBN, but i am guessing a little over a week... don't want to rush the judges, and the judging for LBL's contest took around a week, but this one has twice the entries

I've told you this a bunch already b-coli, but thanks so much for running this competition, and thanks to all the judges for playing through the through all the levels!

As for the number of entries, I think that 14 is excellent. I haven't been keeping track, but that may be the most that have ever been in a single contest for PSP :-) And to top that, all the entries I have played have been top notch!		2010-08-30 03:12:00

Hey there Sackheads.... It's that time you have all been waiting patiently for It's finally here!!!!

I am here to announce the winners of the first official LBN PSP Create contest, Race for the Case(and a Wheely Good Award Sticker) !!!!!!

Let me start by saying congratulations to everyone who entered for making so many great levels.
The judging was close and there was no clear, runaway winner. It was a photo finish and came down to just a couple points in the end... Each judge was given 4 criteria to judge by on a scale of 1-10... Those scores were combined for each level for a possible perfect score of 40 from each judge. Out of a possible 160 points total, even 5th and 6th place were only 2 points away from each other. That shows you how close it was! So thanks for all the hard work and GREAT levels!!! They did NOT go un-noticed even if you didn?t win. I am sure there will be another contest to enter soon somewhere

All the judges chose a different #1 level in their results (seriously, this was THAT close...), so amazingflyingpoo?s level was the most consistent in scoring across the board and came out on top when all the scores were totaled up.

Thanks so much everyone! I've responded over at the official thread for this competition, so I don't want to repeat myself again, but the gist of what I want to say is that every level for this competition was top notch. I seriously couldn't believe what all of the competitors came up with! Everyone who participated in the competition proved that they are a top tier creator because the requirement was to make a vehicle level, which is (in my opinion) the hardest thing you could possibly make on PSP. But everyone ran with it and worked through it to make EXCELLENT levels.

I actually think that a complex vehicle in a vehicle level is more difficult than a complex boss. My thought is that the boss can be based in a certain area (i.e.: The shallow springs monster is based in the area above the church), while a vehicle needs to be able to be moved by the player, so if it does something complex then you need to make sure it will work in every single scenario that the player can put the vehicle in. It drove me up a wall trying to make sure that the command vehicle couldn't be driven into a ditch, but at the same time, I needed it to be able to drive over a partially built bridge. Man, it was a mess...

So, while I'm sure it would be possible to make a boss that is tougher than your average tough vehicle, in general I would prefer to make a tough boss. I think that the tech in the Shallow Springs monster was more complex than the Command Vehicle/bridger/AirStrike combo, but I probably spent 10x or 20x longer on the vehicle simply because the PSP just can't tolerate all those Dynamic objects attached to eachother.
