The Gears of Lifeelihuaran
After a slight wrong turn somewhere, Sackperson finds itself in a magical land where a series of gears is the means of transportation. Help your Sackperson get back on the road!
Hello all,

My name is Elihu Aran, and I would like to show you all my first level.

It is in an Australia Background, the main focus of the level is gear platforming, and it isn't too long. 4-8 minutes, depending if you get stuck?

There is no backtracking, it's a simple "move forward to the exit" level. Also, please note that there are no switches of any kind. The reason? I couldn't get them to work.

Also note that being a LBP newbie (we all have to start somewhere, right?) there aren't what I would feel to be too many Score bubbles. Please help me with learning where to position them?

In addition, is my storytelling okay? I'm kind of worried about that.

I also refer to what I call "Sackboy" as "Sackperson" or "Sackthing" to alleviate anyone playing as a Sackgirl. Apologies in advance if that confused anybody.

All in all, I feel I did a bang-up job with the level, and would appreciate any feedback.

Photos will be provided once I get my hands on a decent camera. (Unless someone with a camera would like to upload photos)

Thanks in advance!

Elihu Aran

I played your level and it was quite good i liked where the gears were placed and the story telling was alright

i gave it 4 stars but next time you make a level try make your own objects instead of pre-made ones.

Hmmm...doesn't sounds too bad. I think I'll try it out. And if you want to find out how to place bubbles good and everything, I think that "Isla Moya" by VelcroJonze would be a great level to play to learn how to place bubbles.2010-07-18 18:48:00

Wow!! Thanks Buddy.

Hello Eli, and welcome to creating on lbp psp.

This being your first level, it was pretty good. You have some things to learn about making fun levels but if you are willing to take advise, and sometimes a little criticism, you will be making beautiful fun levels in no time. First thing I noticed in your level was all the gears. That was a lot of gears!! Not that I am anti gear or anything, but it lost it's fun factor around the middle of the level. But hey, with your level being names Gears of Life, I should have expected that going in, so no problem. I agree with Sketch, using pre-made objects you get from prize bubbles in story mode is normally frowned upon in the lbp community, but this being you first level, I cut you some slack there too. You have some interesting ideas, and I like your story telling too. Some parts made me laugh. Just keep making levels and you will get better, it's as simple as that. As far as placing bubbles go, I usually make a pile of three bubbles, and put them far enough apart so that if the player has some skill, he can get a good chain going, and really up there score. They also just look cool in piles of three. Play enough levels and you will see what I mean. A player that is rewarded is more than likely going to reward you with a high ranking, and maybe a heart.

Hope that helps.

Hi Eli, I played your level and it was really good. I liked the concept, but it got frustrating at times because of the difficulty. For a first level its great! (better than me anyways) If your having difficulties with switches, try playing Acecreator's tutorials, or something similar.2010-07-18 21:11:00

Thank you all for your responses! I think I will make another level with that good friend, the disembodied spirit, and actually have the "Gears of Life" turn into a series of levels where Sackperson is perpetually getting lost in other bizarre worlds. I look forward to any additional feedback from anyone else!2010-07-18 21:40:00

I will play this soon and give feedback. I like that your description of the level was very long and detailed so I know what to expect.2010-07-19 03:12:00

Hey! This was a pretty good level for your first! I've gotta say that my first level (never published) was pretty terrible, all you did was pretty much hold onto a vehicle. Anyway, this level actually had some pretty fun gameplay, but the looks kinda got a little bit boring after a while. All the gears looked the same but it stayed pretty fun to me. And what all the other people say about the story mode items and whatnot, there a correct. Most people don't like seeing things that were already in the story mode. You could try and make your own characters if you want to add in your own twist and originality in your level. Overall, the gameplay was pretty fun!

I gave you four stars :star::star::star::star: and I look forward to seeing you improve at your creation skills.

I really liked the use of gears as the main gameplay element, but I happened to not be very good at them, so I had to give up at the part where you tell the player that you won't be helping them. Just waaayy too many gears and too few checkpoints. For a first level, this was pretty good. Your story telling was good, but you need to work on checkpoint placement, bubble placement, and detail. As previously said, don't use premade objects(it's more fun to make your own anyway). You used the corner editor, so that's good, and the layout of the level was well thought out.

I think you have potential. I gave the level :star::star::star::star:
If you want you can give me some feedback on my level "Good Point"

I thought this was a great level considering it is your first, my first was a lot more horrible! I played it all the way through, and it was pretty tough! It had solid gameplay throughout jumping from gear to gear (which became pretty hard). Anyways, I'm glad you put this up and hope to see you make another level! It'd be great if you could check out my levels too!

I gave you :star::star::star::star: as I look forward to your improving creating skills.
