Global Lighting Problem

Archive: 10 posts

I am in the process of creating a level but I ran into my first obstical. My level is very dark but I want it go to another scene using a magic mouth and switch it to very bright (flashback scene) I used a sensor switch but the problem with that is that when I ran back everything is now bright instead of dark. I want it so it is dark and goes to the new scene and is bright then when that is done it goes dark again.2010-07-18 05:47:00

Lights and L.E.Ds could help you with that!!
Just put a light where you want it to be light simple!!

If you want to use global lighting to create an effect for your flashback then thats ok.
Use a prox switch to trigger the mouth and the new settings. Use a second prox switch attached to another global lighting switch just past the first... should do it, maybe.

I can see where you might have issues. If you leave the first trigger zone without closing the tect box your cut scene may go dark again. Also if you close the text box without moving your current world remains bright... yeah its a tricky one.

If you use an LED that may work fine unless it isn't the effect you are after.

@Joruto
I will try that and see how it works

@Strangepom
I tried that but when I get back to area that is suppose to be dark it is all bright untill I walk another few feet. I don't like that, i want it to be instant.

yeah I was worried about that... umm I would need to have a fiddle with the settings and different ways of triggering the global lighting/speech. have you thought about killing sackboy to teleport to another location in a cage behind a thin wall off-screen for a set period of time (piston/mag switch logic) before re-teleporting him back to where the flashback started?2010-07-20 11:52:00

I think the minimum time for it to switch setting using the global lighting switch is like 5 seconds (I could be wrong...)2010-07-20 22:43:00

I'd have to see how you have this set up but I think you could use the same logic that sets off/ends your cut scene magic mouths to turn on and off the global lighting. whatever the last one in the scene is just have a key mag or whatever your using set to inverse and have that trip off the lighting you want when the scene is finished.

That's how I did my cut scene in my Dragons of Myth Egypt level. The lighting shifts back after the last MM is dissolved.

@Strangepom
I have thought of it but I dont know how to do it :/

@Madafaku
If memory serves it was 0.01 but I think 5 seconds was the default time

@Morgana25
I think that may work but unfortunatly I am not the greatest Logic maker but I am sure I can make it if I try

You should listen to morgana25 she is very skilled at this sort of thing.

I'm going to try different ways of turning off magic mouths.

If you drop a magic mouth by piston for the length of your cut scene into range of your sackboy then when the timer is up and piston retracts the text will automatically disappear and another mag switch can reset the lighting. Problem is cut scene has to be close-ish to magic mouth. you can try with a normal prox switch dropping into range but I'm not sure if that will end the text automatically when piston moves back.

you also run the risk of someone hitting (o) to cancel text and the camera snapping back with the wrong lighting.

Easy solution is to this is to emit a big bit of dissolve in front of sackboy when you trigger cut scene. Painted black with a bit of dark matter in to stop it from falling. Make it thin and put it in the front most layer then have a prox switch on the dissolve attached to itself just past where you trigger the lighting back again. then the change will be less noticeable.

see how that works,

@the madafaku global lighting can happen in 0.1 seconds I use it to great effect to create epilepsy inducing strobe lighting

See my "Examples 4 People" level on my moon. You're the third example in the level. Only way I could do what you need while accounting for premature closing of the mouth was to kill the sack and reactivate the global light change on respawn.

Maybe what I did in that level will give you some ideas to try. It's a starting point at least...
