http://lbp.me/v/wqfdc2 The GREAT TREE Prologue: (1P) Stand And Be Counted.GRAVEL http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx224/LBPC_Caption_contest/Gravel%20-%20The%20Great%20Tree/Production6.pngSo the Tale of 'The Great Tree' has been written... What is to be made of it-- I leave to each of you. Prepare yourself... "STAND AND BE ACCOUNTED." http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx224/LBPC_Caption_contest/Gravel%20-%20The%20Great%20Tree/Production10.png So here we are again friends, I do hope you enjoy what I've cooked up for you this time... As you may note, I have initially included no photographs, and very little useful information. This was a conscious decision on my part to try and eliminate all those meaningless, well intentioned, "This looks good" posts over-inflating cool levels. "So does it look good?" http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx224/LBPC_Caption_contest/Gravel%20-%20The%20Great%20Tree/Production12.png Good question Bill, I'm glad someone asked... Why... OF COURSE IT DOES. "But, should I play it? Well, I've got some advice for you along those lines... DO NOT PLAY THIS LEVEL IF: -you are text intolerant. -your sack has great difficulty standing still. -you can not follow directions. -your controller is always to blame. -you dislike 'ethereal' lag. -you abhor Beauty & Art. -your prone to epilleptic fits. -you are unwilling to part with your precious stars and hearts. -either you, or someone close to you, dislikes the word or-- the creator Gravel. It's influences, to me are right on the sleeve, but I'd like to mention that Mindphaser74 was partially on my mind (minus all those stupid tasks), the movie CONTACT, where Ellie's dad reminds her it's all about the 'small moves Ellie...' And of course the movie Avatar which inspired me to out stupify 'unobtainium' with my own 'Lighterthanaerium'. Finally, I am constantly inspired by the old and new alike that call LBPC home. http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx224/LBPC_Caption_contest/Gravel%20-%20The%20Great%20Tree/Production1.png (Please folks, it is a 1Player adventure. It has been broken with more than 1... and I can guarantee it will overheat in multi-player. And that's not even considering the ridiculous amounts of cameras, gameplay, etc. that are reliant on a singular sack prescence.) http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx224/LBPC_Caption_contest/Gravel%20-%20The%20Great%20Tree/Production18.png If you're still not motivated to play well... How in the world will you be able to suck up to rtm without firsthand knowledge of his 'escalating' genius? http://lbp.me/v/srxbsr HD pics courtesy of JWWPHOTOS | 2010-07-17 21:51:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
I played the prologue and the exploration level. Both are beautiful and the long text is the best I didn't finish the exploration level, but I will go back to it. Very unique, :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: and a <3 | 2010-07-18 02:15:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |
Wow! That opening scene was something I've never experienced before... It was brilliant. The rest of the level was nice, yet a little crazy. Not to say I didn't like it! I did spot a visible magic mouth on the first platform ride. It was on some blue VR Grid material I believe... Amazingly unique! :star::star::star::star::star: | 2010-07-18 16:48:00 Author: piggabling Posts: 2979 |
Really gourgeous visuals thar, is there a thread for the main level as well or is there only this one atm? | 2010-07-19 00:11:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
Evanescend-Thanks for playing! I do hope you return, Vapor Corp is counting on you... All I know is your path will be barred and it will not be easy... Thanks again for your kind words, as the first poster-- you win a special spot in my heart.<3 Piggabling- Thank You and nice find... appreciated sir. Its funny I played through and found 5 magic mouths... go figure. Again I really appreciate your time as this seems to be a rather slow moving thread! Absestos- FTM this is the thread... I think it only deems one thread... It's all one tale... Was it to your liking? Did you experience any problems? More than anything of course thanks for your time, it means alot to me... Incidentally, I didnt mention it earlier but if you supply me with feedback I will do my very best to respond in kind... F4F, while a great tool-- is one heck of a commitment that for various reasons I may not be able to adhere to, and I would hate to ever let anyone down... so lets say I do my best to Effort 4 Effort! Additionally, under influences, I left off the major one! A unique platformer... I got from the psn called topatoi (except I'm pretty sure anyway I spelt it wrong). The overall look of the level was derived from this game... for what it's worth. A third level was planned with a vehicle called a Gemma-- but I put it off thinking you guys couldn't handle 3 levels of my stuff! | 2010-07-19 05:13:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
"Does it look good? Well, it's one of the most beautiful levels ever created. It's ethereal. You could spend time just standing in there looking around (which is what I was doing when you joined in). Actually, it doesn't seem like it's in LBP. You've gone beyond that somehow. The sounds that emit (like the moving platforms) are eerie. Your camera angles are odd...almost like you're being observed by someone else rather than you watching yourself play. I guess it's best put that this is like a dream. It's harder than heck though. It tests your skills for sure. And yes, I guess we did break it (multiplayer), but it was sure worth it having you escort me through this wonderful land. I'm definitely going to play this again. (hope you do post pictures) 5 :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 tagged brilliant | 2010-07-19 11:28:00 Author: TheCountessZ Posts: 537 |
Oh Dear, another Gravel level to torture me. I know I shouldn't play it but I won't be able to resist. According to your handy list above which I thank you for I shouldn't even attempt it as I can put a tick by all those except for epileptic fits, although I suppose if I play many more of your levels I'll soon be able to tick that one off too. I'm like a moth drawn to a flame, we know it's going to hurt like hell but we still keep doing it. I guess me and the moth are both masochists at heart. Anyway I'll take few hours to gather my thoughts, do some deep breathing exercises, and try to relax myself as much as possible before diving in. When I get round to playing it later I'll keep the Migraleves at the ready and when I've recovered sufficiently to the point where I'm able to use/see the keyboard again I'll give some feedback. Don't expect a lot though as I probably won't get far! | 2010-07-19 11:42:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
I fit almost all of the things on your list! | 2010-07-19 12:05:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
Countesssz-ah thank you so very very much, it is an officially worthwhile project now! To know i touched atleast one person in such a way... Awesomemans- I actually put that lag line in their just for you in an attempt to steal your one truest bullet... Not even realising i was composing the THE Perfect anti-Vista list... Whoo-boy! THAT post had me laughing so hard I cried in my coffee. I hope you make it through Mr V- I'm thinking the actual planet may bring about those fits! Ahh the great tree isn't so bad! I don't see where you plucked 20k points from, must be some developer voodoo, I can only make 2k :/ | 2010-07-19 14:41:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
I posted this in the comments already, but I think I managed to skip a lot of the level. I couldnt say what or where though, I suppose thats not too helpful. What I did see was pretty neat. I missed a lot of the text and im not quite sure why.. maybe i read too slow. | 2010-07-19 16:37:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
monstahr-Thanks for your time & play-- All the text is contingent on you... if you release 'R1' the lift right stops. its ridiculosly rudimentary I know but effective self-pacing tool... As far as missing some of the level... well, which one? (and i'm sorry) but for my dime... I'd play it again! I've had an interesting point brought up to me acouple of times now... Do you think 'The Great TREE' proper should have it's own level thread? While one is contingent on the other, they clearly are seperate entites in a narrative and would help cutdown on confusion... I just didn't want to come-off poorly trying to make it into more than it really is... What do you guys think? | 2010-07-19 17:23:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Interesting list i fit everything there | 2010-07-19 17:32:00 Author: DudeWTH Posts: 29 |
there's more than one? i guess just the introduction, then.. i'll try it again. truth be told i didn't actually finish, i got to where i could see the scoreboard though but i got frustrated by those platforms. | 2010-07-19 17:35:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
I was right, I can now add epileptic fits to my list of ailments. Thanks Gravel! That was just from the prologue level too ( BTW I would say yes, make a separate thread for each ). Unusually for me the key actually worked and unlocked the main level which was surprising. Even more surprising I actually Aced it at the first attempt and in about 15 seconds flat !! although my score was zero! What happened was I tried to jump up to the left and get the bubbles on top of the signpost but missed and fell off the side of the platform whereupon I dropped down quite a way and landed on a scoreboard. Now I'm no expert but I don't think that was the plan was it!? On a serious note the prologue level could do with more checkpoints in strategically placed positions to save a lot of replaying the same sections over again. I also had a lot of trouble with the layers i.e. falling behind them and dropping in the gas or simply shifting frustratingly to a layer I didn't want to be on. Overall I found it very awkward to navigate and I must admit the visuals were not to my taste and just left me feeling a bit weird. As forthe 2nd level I couldn't navigate that at all. As I've said already my first attempt was over very quickly but i tried it again and to be honest didn't last much longer. I went right this time and managed to grab a few bubbles before falling off a ledge to the right this time and landing on another scoreboard. On that note what is it with all the scoreboards scattered around. I'm sure I could see loads of them. Unless of course that was the weird visuals causing me to hallucinate!! Anyway I'm off for a lie down in a darkened room now. Tell mrsvista to wake me when tea is ready ! | 2010-07-19 18:14:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
i'm sorry mr . V. i was hoping to grab the player right up front w/ the prologue, and weirded-out is probably an appropriate resonse... Planetside, rest assured all worked appropriately... There are seven guardians you must navigate around on your quest ( its tough stuff...) BUT I THINK YOU KNOW- what your efforts mean to me and lets not dismiss the biggest news of the day... YOU finished one of my levels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I for one am happy...as far as liking it ... bah, maybe next-time. | 2010-07-19 18:40:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Yeah, definatly make another thread for the main level, and take lots and lots of pictures! Also, what might clear some confusion up would be if you made it a bit clearer that the level is a combination survival / Exploration type level, rather than a linear experience. | 2010-07-19 21:17:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
Not sure what just happened. I played through your prologue Gravel and it said 4th - IceMaiden. Must be dreaming! Actually I thought I was dreaming when I was playing The Great Tree, it's quite remarkable if a little annoying! I managed to get the amber grabby swingy thingy stuck in the up and down gate but as luck would have it and a bit of jumping around in a fashion resembling a kangaroo on a pogo stick I managed to free it and make my way forward for more torture, sorry, adventure! Sadly the key didn't work for some obscure reason. Please make the key work! I've said it before and I'll say it again, must be getting boring now,you are one impressive artist Gravel. <3 Icey | 2010-07-19 23:39:00 Author: IceMaiden Posts: 1057 |
YOU... Boy was I surprised, YOU MADE IT!?! (must be losing my hutzpah...) Thank You ICEY! I've said it before... coming from you- that compliment ways a ton. Creator Note: (Oh and just as confirmation, your really selling yourself short in these levels playing multiplayer, hope that doesnt sound conceited... but even the sound design is better in 1P) congratulations icey and thanks 4 helping support me. edit: It seems after all this time keys still don't work for all, not sure what to do there.... | 2010-07-20 01:39:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Not sure what to say about keys, but I did get a chance to play test this beast quite awhile ago and it is drop dead impressive. Right at the start I had to rub my eyes thinking... what game is this? I will give it a play yet this evening now that it is published and report back. I will probably be cursing every few minutes, but loving every second. Congrats Gravel.. on stellar bunch of graphics. Your popit must be hooked to some other device we don't have yet. | 2010-07-20 01:48:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |

Are you supposed to be able to kill the guardians? After you dropped me in there yesterday someone else joined and while we were stumbling about one of the guardians got us. the scores were popping up and then it died. the glass came loose from the score board and fell and we were back to playing. all the visitor could say at that point was "?" and "???" LMAO You've definitely taken this one to a ho nuba leba. EDIT: It happened again. This time playing on my own. I think it's number 4. the one that goes up and down from the pool to the barrels. It got me then it died. | 2010-07-20 16:53:00 Author: IStwisted Posts: 428 |
It's great isn't it? I think it's worth making a whole level around getting caught be checkpoints then defeating them quickly before the level ends | 2010-07-21 15:05:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
It's out???? I was out of town since last Friday, so I missed the release! And I'm out of town until Sunday night!!!! I'll play it as soon as I get back, buddy - I'm not slackin', I just didn't see it was out. | 2010-07-22 20:47:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Sorry all- connectivity seems to be an exclusive illusive thing for me these days... So what i miss? Ccubb- it's not a party without you- Jww- My, how you do like to flatter me ...why it hardly takes no imagination at all to realize when you eat popcorn you don't need no butter... because, SUGAR, everything is butter coming out of that mouth.... Do tell me more J_dub. Absestos- Thank you for championing my level (from one Great Tree to Another, eh?) I have decided especially with your new great level [Go Play it Now!] to only maintain this single thread for both levels. (I still very much appreciate your enthusiasm for both of my levels...) Istwisted- I know right? How freaking cool is the fourth guardian? I mean he's tough to get by... alot of people think too tough, but then your caught-- and I mean who doesn't love a second chance? In my 'Fortune and Glory: Harrisons Fjords' level I experimented a lot with scoreboards... that launched, the decision to use them as the 'enemy' in the Great Tree. I do most of my own play-testing and when I discovered exactly what I had built... well, I gotta say I couldn't be any happier. (It's a really cool concept if I do say so myself!) I like standing behind his back... Oh! they hate that. All Hail the Countessz, she is quickly approaching the top marks position!!! "And You! No not you! ...To the left, yeah (pointing) Yes you! Why haven't you played and posted? Stand and Be Counted. | 2010-07-23 07:01:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
This sounds so cool, defiantely have to give it a go. Sounds very interesting EDIT: Had a go and loved it. Great blend of sci fi and vegetation scenery. :star::star::star::star::star: | 2010-07-23 17:03:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
I managed to get to the end of this (the second part), very satisfying. A very unique level to say the least. | 2010-07-24 06:54:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
ARGH!! So close to finishing and landed in the water and was captured by a guardian. At least I got the 4th highest score for my efforts up to that! I will be back again, but only after my hands heal a bit. Amazing level to say the least. Well thought out and an incredible journey. Love the storyline and accompanying devices needed to proceed. Amazing cinematics at the beginning of both levels. Gravelicious! A bit picky for the footy placements for Footfalls as he is traveling over doll heads and huge shells, but it is doable for sure. YIKES this was hard, but something I have grown to expect and respect from you! lol I think this is your most cohesive level ever and simply amazing. A definite favorite of mine. Not a level to quickly romp through and be done as this is one amazing challenge and so much to it that falling at the worst times possible treats you to more challenges, screaming, cursing and amazing charm. One issue that I didn't like is on the paint gun to shoot the teabag. You only get like 3 turns at bat with it. I can understand only so many shots per gun, but if you fail too many times on the race like I did twice, you are done without any hope to proceed. Not sure that is what you really want especially having traveled so far!! Well done! 50 stars and a few hundred hearts! ...which equate in-game to 5 stars and a heart! | 2010-07-24 14:10:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Midnight- Thank You for playing... really dude. Without republishing and with no alternative accounts I am really at the Mercy of my friends (gulp)... I know this level breaks a few of your "No-no's" so it means all the more to me that you'd spend some time in my world. Thanks Again. ARGH!! So close to finishing and landed in the water and was captured by a guardian. At least I got the 4th highest score for my efforts up to that! I will be back again, but only after my hands heal a bit. Not sure that is what you really want especially having traveled so far!! Ahhh, something I can sink my teeth into. Hmmm... you are right... 3x max was not my intention... I guess the paint splatter stickers overheated the level (that is also the reason for the limited ammo... sacks do luv to fling the paint...) There's a checkpoint just two jumps away... so my question JWW is: Would making the rope a little longer on the 2nd swing facilitate the successful navigation of this section?--I mean. it's a needle in a haystack during a tornado... but would it help? ...and yes, footing is an issue, but one that is not about to change... Unfortunately, I discovered Tinted's compression tool just as I finished the prologue (which was completed after The GREAT TREE). Wonderful I thought... I could have optimised so much for a more 'cohesive' journey... so two good points Jww So I counted the cameras in The GREAT TREE last nite, there are 60 of them I believe... Is that way above average? On a slightly different note, I think I found a suitable launching point to continue the narrative. If you get to the end, you will have noticed there are some keys in the level that dont link anywhere... I had to put them in because I am always fighting the thermometer... So I hope someday to continue the 'footfalls' narrative in levels titled, "The not-so-abandonded dwelling..." and "The Great Blue Yonder"... It's all speculation at this point but my hope is "The Great Tree" would be the bridge that branches out to these other levels... (well see) I'm thinking the world may be a better place without VAPOR CORP in it... "What is the measure of a man? STAND AND BE ACCOUNTED." | 2010-07-24 15:26:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |

Is that way above average? Maybe not a steak, but hopefully something you can poke with a fork. To be honest, I didn't think I went wild with paint. Especially being limited. Maybe limit the shots more might help? Actually I had no issue with the swings as much as somehow missed the checkpoint and ended up back prior to the paint gun fun. Maybe if there was another that dropped you down to grab the swing? Dunno.. I am wondering if just limiting the paint MORE might help you out. I wouldn't even think to suggest removing an underwater doll head or remove a sticker somewhere. Oh.. in playing again I somehow found my way down to the nursery via the switch that eventually drops down for the sleepy time guardian bit. Once I got into the next segment to the right with the LARGE guardian, I had a collision death under the wooden thingy to the left. Not that bad of a deal, however, I spawned in UNDER the nursery?! There is no way out of below that I could find and died without air to sustain my little sack lungs. Hope this helps!! | 2010-07-24 16:03:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
"You took the easy path! You took the easy path!" Or did you? It sounds like the checkpoint that falls down the slide, it normally stays in the pool... or the player trips another... or a guardian... to create a new spawning point... That may have to be looked at... I dont think the removal of something like a doll head will help the paintanator... I may be wrong here, I might have to experiment to see if it makes a 'real' difference. And yes it helps, and thanks. | 2010-07-24 17:47:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
LOL!! I took the "easy" path? No.. I didn't take the "you have got to be kidding me, why the heck would I want to go that way" path. Dunno.. it was all behind the "trees" and could not see it. I've had that happen twice and not sure how, or if there is any way at all to get out. I know I could replicate it though if needed if you want. Well.. the doll head has x number of stickers on it. So you gain a bit of sticker thermo as well as an object. Double win! ..however I think just reducing paint shots down to like 5 might do the trick. Most welcome! | 2010-07-24 21:59:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
this level was trippy in a way (the exploration one) never finished it because one of those mini monsters got me (great scoreboard concept btw) will have to play it again and heed your advice of avoiding those things epic levels tho glad they got spotlighted only wish i could understand the story...i think im too stupid to understand im afraid | 2010-07-25 06:48:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
Finally got a chance to play the released versions of these. Incredible! The graphics are so e of the most unique and dazzling I've seen. The story is great, and the special effects are fantastic. Just based on these things, they are 5 star levels to me. A few things, though: Right at the end of the prologue, I'm still a bit concerned with the camera angle when jumping on the final platforms. I have a 60 inch HDTV and I was having a problem seeing what I was doing here, partially because the camera angle and plane shifting and also because of the black background. Also, I generAlly have a problem collecting keys but it worked this time. I got the key to the second part, and after Laying a few times finally got to the race. However, after dying once the paintinator no longer worked due to your thermo. So, I was stuck. When I tried to reenter the level the level was locked again. Tried playing the first level and it wouldn't unlock again..... So I never got to finish the second part. But, it was great while it lasted. Awesome job! | 2010-07-26 04:06:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I really appreciated 'the nod' the spotlight crew gave me earlier today. When you're on the outside looking in, it's easy to imagine there is some answer or fulfillment there... at the very least you hope to reach a broader demographic... a chance to introduce yourself to more people, slowly building an audience. I'm not really sure any of that is actually true... it's just expected expectations...I'm just saying, today, like all those Sundays in the past... passed by pretty-much without incidence, and I think I received a single post I may not have gotten otherwise... So here's to you Shadowcrazy... I really appreciated your time, and I also wanted to thank you for taking the time to upload a couple of pictures on my otherwise naked level... I thought all three were really nice shots... Thanks for playing. So, I have never had much problem with 'knowing who and what I am'. Probably the reason I am so stymied how I apparently pulled the wool over so many pairs of eyes that I respect... Thank You Ccub for coming home and playing my levels. I really like the image of you kissing the wife, patting the kids on the head and then rushing off downstairs to the secret headquarters to curse my level in the privacy of your own luxuriously trimmed man-cave. I'm sorry about the key situation, but I promise both you and Icemaiden I will unlock the level in a week or so... while also seeing if I can somehow gain a little wiggle room thermo-wise. As always I appreciate your time and I think we both know it has been your mentoring that made anything like this prologue possible for mass consumption. If it were up to me... well I think some other friends could say it better... My two cents on Gravel. Gravel is one of those creators that makes you pay to play. If he was your neighbor, he would have bear traps hidden in his lawn just to keep you on your toes, but still be your best buddy. He loves creating master class silly hard levels that will leave quite an impression on you both at the frustration and in awe of the scenery. If he could toss banana peels and popcorn at you during the experience he would. For anyone that played his Ghostbusters level, this one is an amazing improvement as far as getting to the scoreboard. ..and the scenery was incredible in that one as well. | 2010-07-26 07:02:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |

I thought all three were really nice shots... Thanks for playing you're very much welcome friend. the least i could do for such an astounding creator like yourself also waiting for the creator spotlight...better prepare for when those questions fly at you | 2010-07-26 07:29:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
By the looks of it, this looks like a great level. I will try to play it tomorrow. Wow the first pick looks AWESOME!!!! | 2010-07-26 08:36:00 Author: AA_BATTERY Posts: 1117 |
One thing I forgot to mention..... The whole 'get past the scoreboard' may not be mass friendly, but it's one of the most innovative gameplay mechanics vie seen recently. Especially the part near the water in the cave where I thought the game was over.... Then it continued! Genius! | 2010-07-26 11:57:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
If it were up to me... well I think some other friends could say it better... LOL!!! Wow... I forgot I wrote that! Still works doesn't it!? Oh and glad you got the pics inserted ok!! | 2010-07-26 14:32:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
question: is the paintball supposed to lock up after the first use in that time trial part with hopping from shell to shell and using the paintanator on the second rope? cuz its a level breaker to be honest P.S. still haven't beat this level lol P.P.S. i meant the exploration level lol...also i killed guardian 4....so let that be a lesson to the rest of you and your guardians trying to stop my journey lol | 2010-07-26 16:26:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
This... is... awesome! | 2010-07-26 16:56:00 Author: AccumulationNone Posts: 58 |
Whoa... hold your horses there ShadowCrazy... I like to think of myself as 'a person of interest' in the investigation of life... I've got some more stuff to be doing... In short, thank-you, but I'm not worthy... (but thanks!) I L O V E the word 'awesome'... hope that association catches on! Thanks Ccub! The Seven Guardians of Arbourellis, yeah, I think it's unanimous- the vulnerable fourth Guardian of the heartwood is everyones' favourite... however, to be fair he has caught me as many times as I've escaped... It isn't a sure thing... As cool as the fourth Guardian is-- the fifth is plain evil... the get off your butt to reset the ps3 variety. I'm just sayin. Don't antagonize! One and two just sit there and wait for the fledgling Footfalls to fall upon them... I'm sure on the first couple of plays... many players are ??? (Hence the prologue). The third Guardian not everyone faces (dependent mostly on path choice) but he is very unforgiving and guards what I call the 'Breezeway' in the canopy. He has a nasty habit of forcing players down to the nursery. After 3, 4, and 5 being so tough... I knew I had to give players a chance to coast-- so six maintains the roots system and is more intimidating in visage than manner (should've used bark/bite analogy--darn). And Seven. Well, it's seven's first day on the job shall we say... Fresh-up from the farm... he's got the want... but it's gonna take an accidental blunder for that sneaky little guy to get you... and that's it really... except... well, don't go anywhere near the nursery! Everytime I try for that perfect run... It's the nursery that does me in. As of the writing of this I have a real problem with the level over-heating during play due to the paintanator... I thought it only happened in multi-player... but I was wrong... It's really gonna hurt to delete anything... I may try to further limit the ammo amount...(maybe)... it doesn't take much to get the vine swinging enough to make the jump... or I could wire the next checkpoint to activate upon grab of vine? any thoughts? -and thanks again all. | 2010-07-26 19:10:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
I could wire the next checkpoint to activate upon grab of vine? any thoughts? -and thanks again all. the issue with it is that sometimes i can't even reach the vine even with the first/only chance using the paintanator...so when i miss i die and respawn at the checkpoint with the first vine...easy vine, then i grab the painanator and it wont let me fire...does the squeaky against the wall noise but im in open space so im lost anyways after you fail the first time grabbing that vine its almost impossible to grab again without using the paintanator (that which doesnt work for unknown reasons) hence it becomes a broken part of the level and forces you to replay the entire level | 2010-07-26 20:59:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
Thank you, Gravel, for your kind words regarding the thread on my newest level. I've played this level and I'm just speechless and dumbfounded on how you made the beginning look the way it does. Truly epic, you always bring something great to LBP. I love the concept here. It kind of has a post apocalyptic feel to it which I love. Glad to see this is a continuing series, I'll definitely keep an eye on these. I've played tree exploring levels before, and some of them were breathtaking... but not like this. This level actually has an awesome story with it to boot. Keep running with it Gravel! Ganbatte ne! | 2010-07-26 22:28:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Grav, I haven't managed to finish the level yet, but I'm popping in to say that intro cinematic was downright *fantastic*. | 2010-07-26 23:12:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
Hey Jules... got my fingers crossed for you there... and thanks! Happy thoughts can only help! Hi Tran-man I noticed your visit! You two are poster childs for what makes LBP so very astounding! The amount of 'you' invested in each of your levels is amazing and they are always so original... and so fun. <<<<INTERLUDE>>>> when I was building the prologue, Poms' Final thought from his Creator Spotllight hit me hard, it was a Polanski quote and went something like, " Put your best at the end and your second best at the start." And it made perfect and complete sense to me. From that point on- I really thought I was screwed on this project... thats' the impetus for the green-haired girl (although she's rather static)... and i tried my best to create a stable enviornment at the end to cement the tale... but every nite that stupid quote would come back and I was miserable for what i had done... What if you just replaced the paintenator with some other means of moving the vine. 1 emiter, 1 sprung bolt, 1 grab switch, and one projectile. maybe??? | 2010-07-27 00:40:00 Author: IStwisted Posts: 428 |
Ok, just played this level and liked it very much! Here is my feedback: Gameplay I loved the mixture of futuristic/technological obstacles, and organic ones (e.g. trees, rocks etc) It was all very original and (most importantly ) fun to play as well! The only element which I did not particularly enjoy were the platforms on springs near the end of the level. It was difficult after jumping to correctly place yourself above the next platform, and the automatic layer-swapping that the game has made it even harder. Visuals Again, I loved how you mixed together the futurstic elements of the simualtion (with glitches etc) which the actual look of the planet. The cutscenes were all very well made, and everything looked beautiful. Other Comments I found the story a little confusing at times (although I am sure it will become more clear later on throughout the series) but the overall series of one group mining for something on a strange planet, along with the simualtion element reminded me a lot of Avatar Rating I enjoyed this level a lot, but the platforms and confusing story only gained it :star::star::star::star::star:, but unfortunately did not scrape a heart :/ | 2010-07-28 17:19:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |
What a strange level However, I accidentally selected online play and was joined by some very annoying quick play'ers, which slightly spoiled the atmosphere. | 2010-07-28 17:42:00 Author: chimpskylark Posts: 335 |
the overall series of one group mining for something on a strange planet, along with the simualtion element reminded me a lot of Avatar reminded me more of Lost Planet 2 (love that game) in that in Lost Planet 2 they are getting Thermal Energy anyways idk when ill give this level another try (the exploration one i mean) since that paintanator is stopping me from completing it | 2010-07-29 00:07:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
shadow, i've tried editing this level three times over the last two days ...all 3 times it froze... i'm not sure i will ever build anything quite so full ever again, stay tuned... PLASMAVORE -- Thank you for not pawning-off on me that ol' sraped heart! Whew that was a closeone... barely sidestepped it! | 2010-07-29 04:53:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
shadow, i've tried editing this level three times over the last two days ...all 3 times it froze... i'm not sure i will ever build anything quite so full ever again, stay tuned... id say just remove the paintanator and replace it with something else...or just add more terrain to run to the swing with | 2010-07-29 05:25:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
Hi All- Well, this may be my last update for a while depending how this thread continues, plays have really slowed-up. So I just wanted to take one last moment to thank everyone who took the time to play these two odd little levels out of the sea of three million. I am personally very pleased with them, there seems to be a fine balance between communal expectations and personal preference... and you seemed to receive them fairly well. It does sadden me a bit that these levels only received about 170 plays a piece at the writing of this, but... what are you gonna do? As it turns out, there really isn't enough interest to make it a series (sorry). While I'm pretty sure where I wanted the next one to go... I am personally just not motivated enough to tell it for a 170 odd plays. Again I have appreciated each and every one of them, there just has to be a better more alluring story out there I can work on to tell you all... so, as of now my future is uncertain. Chimpskylark, these levels are not to be run through! Plasmavore, thanks again for the play! To everyone else who helped make this thread a success, thank you. To those who failed to post, tsk-tsk...perhaps next time. I republished the Great Tree w/the following edits: The paintanator issue should be resolved... (Icemaiden, Ccubbage) the level has been unlocked. Have at it all you key deficient people... I sure hope badges work differently! Time to start anew. Until next time... | 2010-07-30 09:06:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
I'll give it another go some time It had a very interesting premise, and was fun to play despite tweedledum and tweedledee who happened to join me. I was looking forward to playing another, but I don't blame you, considering the few plays that levels seem to get, and how much of a drag level building can be! Hopefully, you'll have some later plays. My 'candy hills' level, which was the second level I made, somehow gradually ended up with over a thousand plays (even though its not so great ) so you never know. In the end, the best thing you can expect in the end is some praise for the level. Nowadays most levels with alot of plays get there by the republishing glitch. Which really just ruions everything, but there you go. P.s. it got five stars from me | 2010-07-30 09:26:00 Author: chimpskylark Posts: 335 |
Gravel, this is probably going to sound pretentious but your levels are to other levels what the Romantic movement was to the Age of Enlightenment. *rushes to Encyclopaedia Britannica to check that she still retains some shreds of her education* ?Romanticism can be seen as a rejection of the precepts of order, calm, harmony, balance, idealization, and rationality that typified Classicism in general... Romanticism emphasized the individual, the subjective, the irrational, the imaginative, the personal, the spontaneous, the emotional, the visionary, and the transcendental...? Phew, and put so much better than I could, lol! Your artistry really is unsurpassed. That intro to the Prologue is just breathtaking. If you can create something like that in LBP, think what you could do with LBP2! I loved the both levels, with all their beauty, quirkiness and refusal to compromise. It is such a joy to come across levels like these that shake you up and make you appreciate again the potential of this game. I have had a go at the second level but was bested by the paintinator. I see from your post, though, that you may have tweaked this section since I played so I will give the level another go. I do so hope you continue creating. The game needs creators like you. | 2010-07-30 23:25:00 Author: shropshirelass Posts: 1455 |
well why i myself enjoyed the level i can understand how there aren't many plays due to how strange the story is....for me it didn't really make much sense and i felt like i was reading a thesaurus while playing although im one to enjoy some levels regardless of confusing story im sure others didnt understand and that could be the issue here i would say if anything maybe make a more simple story....not TOO simple but enough so that people can understand what's going on....its like watching avatar for the first time without explanation of what naavis are and banshees...you just wouldnt understand and could be turned off from the whole thing so maybe thats it...not sure...but if you do find some motivation to continue the series....i would say explain the story more in depth so people can understand...or make it more simpler anyways those are my two cents on it | 2010-07-31 01:27:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
This level was amazing, brilliant, and enjoyable from start to finish. The opening scene was surreal, with a perfect balance of lighting, detail and camera angle. And the loading of the construct was equally, if not more, impressive. My favorite section was the pathway to the tree, where you emitted the beams on the front and back thin layers--the effect was beautiful. The platforming was tough but doable, and provided a well-rounded variety of refreshing gameplay. I'm sorry I wasn't able to play this sooner. It's a 6-star level because it's in a category all it's own. FANTASTIC! | 2010-09-18 08:55:00 Author: RickRock_777 Posts: 1567 |
Sorry for the delay in playing your level but I'm in a rush to try and finish my level before LPB2 comes along, and so far not doing that great. Anyway there's not much to say for this level apart from simply astounding, magnificant, the ultimate ground breaking level that sets an awesome example for the communty. So ummmm... this level was pretty good... pretty. Or as I like to say AWESOME! . I really didn't focus much on the story line of this level, but the look, visualy this level is amazing. I'm not sure how you did half of those effects in this level but that is something I would dream I could do. The story was really great, but I just playe it after I finished creating for the day and it ended up that I played the level really late and I couldn't get it very well. But I've put a shiny red heart on the level so I make sure I play it later. From the materials you used and the whole theme of the level and finally the amazing characters you created his level is truley a level I will never forget. Gameplay was great and the style of the level was great too. Using doll heads is a great idea for follage but what you used for the tree I'm still wondering about. This level had some great moments in it. When I manage to play this level again (if I get the time) Ill reight another review on the story. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3.
