Title: THE LAST GUARDIAN

Author: GEK83

I don't know how many of you have seen the trailer of The Last Guardian, a IcoTeam game that is currently under development.
Anyway the level is based on it!:hero:

Travel through an HUGE (reeeeeally big) level with your giant pet!
Remember: he can't pass some areas without your help, but at the same time you can't continue your travel without him...

Oh, and try to find ALL the mask, there is a colossal prize for who achieve it!

Last but not last, before the pics: this is my last level for LBP, a massive thanks at the community for have played all my creations and for ever be so generous and kind

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/1125/montyk.jpg

Note: these pics just show the first part of the level, narly the 20/25% of it!
-1 Player only
-difficulty: easy/normal
-time for complete it: around 15 mins
-11 items to find to get the PRIZE
-bugs: sadly yes. Sometime some pieces of the creature get destroyed (tail and neck the most common) and it mean RESTART :'(

I hope you all enjoy it!

This is a game I'm really looking forward to so I just had to play this.

Brilliant job with the creature...you got the mottled feather look down...great use of that blue flower decoraton. The creature is very detailed and very cute!

I really liked dropping barrels on enemies...that was a nice touch...the level design is very good and nicely detailed. The color correction/lighting also worked very well here,

The level is not without it's problems though. There's some slowdown that makes the platforming more difficult than it should be and some very oddly located invisible platforms (namely after the first bridge you lower) that I think everyone will wind up on trying to get to the barrel.

My first time through the creature left me behind when I climbed the very cool colossus thing...and I couldn't proceded due to the lethal water...that's the thanks I get for releasing him!?! The 2nd time his head fell off (quite disturbing). The third time was the charm but there was an odd moment at the end where the creature again broke (head fell off again) but when I died/respawned it was one a whole creature and was able to reach the end.

I did manage to hunt down quite a few secrets...you take a bit of a risk going after them though...

Sadly I don't think many will make it through this one due to lag/glitches and that's a shame. A very ambitous level and I throughly enjoyed evey minute. 5 stars (forgot to heart...will correct that omission shortly).

wow, I'm actually on LBP so it's a perfect time to play it. Plus, by the picture it looks outstanding. I'll give it a try and tell you what I think.

Edit: I played it and here's what I think.

First of all, I think you had a great amount of detail and sound effects. I liked the horse or whatever it was that followed you around. Also, the guards looked awesome and they were great enemies. Sometimes it was a little tricky to get on the horse since it kept moving it's head so if you could fix that, it would be much easier. Also, I'd try putting a checkpoint on the horse thingy. When I opened the gate with the sponge on the bottom and pulled the switch, the horse kept going, swimming in the water and I killed myself to see what happened. I ended back up next to the barrel I drop into and I try swimming over to the horse. When in water it pushes you to the front layer, this is the same with a jetpack. The only way to go to the back layer is to grab something in that layer. Unfortunately, there was a wall in the way of the front layer so I had to restart. I haven't continued yet, but I'll try to and see if I can give you feedback on the rest. But so far it's amazing. Great job.

i would agree alot with fullofwins recap of everything. ambitious is a good choice of word for this level. i beat it first time out with no breakage or anything like that. nice 3D use. though it did remind of what i thought when i played ur rocket knight level, creativity is there, just a lack of finishing polish. maybe not 100% lacking, but definitely what i think of when i think of a finished, polished level. but overall very good job.2010-07-18 00:50:00

I agree on all, positive and negative

Basically here is the story of this level

It started reeeeeeeeeeeeally (like somebody said) ambitius.
In the original concept there was A LOT more things, basically the second area(when you get respawned) is totally empthy... in that zone it was supposed to be full of archers(like the two that you hit with the rolling barrel) and stealth sections to open multiple gates

The thermomether was doing good,i was thinking to be able to do at least 80/90% of what ive in my mind, but at some point it just surrended :hero:

At this point i realized that there was'nt so much that i can do and two days from now i must anyway go for a loooooooooooong holydays... so i've thinked "is'nt perfect, and is'nt like the original concept... but who care, the spirit and the atmosphere are here, let's publish it! :hero: "

Here's the story

Ok First things first...

Pros:
The creature was pretty accurate, I recognized it on first sight.
The atmosphere was really well rendered. I enjoyed every visual part of your level.
Overall, the structure of the level was clever and original.

Cons:
I managed to break his neck, his head was lying on the ground, I almost shed a tear
Some parts of buildings were tricky to reach, but it's only a minor thing, doesn't really need to change.
I couldn't make it to the end

I'll replay it today but for now here's the result:

Cool level, good Team Ico atmosphere, nice puzzling gameplay.

I had the same problem as Dragonvarsity: when getting squashed, you can't swim to the creature and have to start over. Possible to let the savepoint move along with the creature?

Interesting stuff, I'll retry the level later.

Fantastic level! I'm a sucker for anything inspired by Team Ico & this level definitely has that touch Team Ico touch to it. Great job on Trico, the man-eating eagle too! The only thing is, I got stuck at a point near the end, I pulled a switch & the whole level became submerged underwater, I swam everywhere I could but everything pretty much came to a halt after that so I couldn't end the level. Anyhow, I'll play it again later & maybe I'll have better luck.2010-07-20 01:46:00

Wow, fantastic tribute to that upcoming game! I'm really looking forward to playing it lol, this has got me all pumped up for it to come out The level was awesome too lol, great visuals, a great gameplay mechanic and I really liked all the different ways to kill the enemies lol. There were a lot of bugs though that could potentially break the level... by the end of the 1st half the creature thing was missing its tail and head lol, which had broken off when it got stuck in a couple of spots. Its also easy to lose your creature entirely when the level gets submerged, I found the end of the level but he was nowhere to be found lol anc you can't complete it without him. had to run bach, he was stuck in the water cave part Overall though I still loved this level and gave it 5 stars, easy 2010-07-22 20:16:00

I think ambitious is the right word... having read over this thread, I'd say you're about 85% done... I was playing one player and my beautiful creature got stuck on the second gate I believe... I tried for like 5 or six minutes to free him, a friend joined... still no rescue... on subsequent tries, results were similiar. The look of the level really grew on me the longer I stayed... I myself was building something similiar as a third part to my Great Tree story... (I dropped it though for the release). Playing what I did of yours made me really want to sort it all out though as it is a fun and puzzling concept... I liked it alot... just impossible for me to finish.2010-07-26 19:54:00

I played this one recently and despite a few minor bugs, I have to say it was top-tier stuff.

Of course, at this point, I wouldn't expect anything less from you. I have to say that you, along with possible Elvenbane, are quite possibly my favorite creators in all of LittleBigPlanet. No in depth commentary on this one, but once again keeping your levels to a thematic and GREAT utilization of decorations and stickers puts your levels on a whole other level.

All I have to wonder is ... will we ever get to see an end to the Vagrant Hero series? I mean, it could all be finished in 1 level if you just gave the story SOME kind of conclusion. ANY kind ...

Too generous as usual :hero:

Vagrant Hero?
To be honest i just dropped it.
50% of myself love it more than any other my level, but the other 50 consider it an half fail... before quit the series, imho the "Vagrant Hero factor" was ever lower and lower:
Vagrant Hero 1 - i love it,is like i was project it
Vagrant Hero 2 - i love it,is like i was project it
Vagrant Hero 3 - i love it,is like i was project it
Vagrant Hero 4 - no, of Vagrant Hero had just the name
Vagrant Hero 5 - no, of Vagrant Hero had just the name
Vagrant Hero 6 - no, of Vagrant Hero had just the name

Basically after chose a style (VH1) i wrestled against LBP1 limits to put in something innovative/original (weapons VH2 and a lil bit of RPG feeling at start of VH3),... then i just get tired and start creating normal platforms+some ideas from previous chapters that are far from the spirit of first three chapters

I have an huge idea/project about an RPGesque (but with active fights) series, but absolutely i don't want try it in LBP1 to see it getting istantly old in a couple of months.
Take this TLG level, i started it taking it just as a prototype, nothing more, never hoped/thinked to make it perfect... is'nt neither finished lol

For my RPGesque project i've total different attitude, i want do it better as possible, and i want to do it EPIC
Let me work with sackbots, controllable creatures and some new mechanics(i yet LOVE the strenght power-up) and i guaranteed that you will forget VH

Now i'm working on a Nights into Dreams tribute level,i'm going to publish it in a couple of days.
Is'nt bad and i like it a lot just for the love that i have for that game(like the Rocket Knight level), but is just a way to do something waiting LBP2 and to try some new tricks :hero:

Well, I greatly look forward to whatever it is you do next. It is a shame that Vagrant Hero won't get an ending though, but I understand if you have nowhere worth going with it.

That being said, perhaps the next time you're making a level that is "your own IP", so-to-speak, and you have some extra space, perhaps add in a background or hidden encounter with the "protagonist sack" and wizard from VH and they blow up? Just for some closure? P)

Or even just have a movie theater in the background of your level showing "Vagrant Hero" with a big sign that says "Cancelled" - or any of a hundred ways you could give some satisfaction to those who were left hanging (admittedly, the story itself wasn't incredibly original or a "cliff-hanger", but it was so well made that I did get invested with the characters). It was really just such a wonderful series that it would seem a shame to never make use of the "property" again, even if there is never another actual VH level.

Hi!

Well,you read my mind!

In the "big thing" that i want create in LBP2 (can't wait,is horrible have epic good idea NOW and must wait 2 months and half :<) the player is going to encounter MANY characters, some will just talk, some give some help, give an item/weapon/spell and some even join the team!

Some are going to be guest/star famous characters, many not... but one, in some dark squalid bar, will be the original true Vagrant Hero (the one that i was using during the VH creation) that will tell you that in the past he was searching his ex-girfriend kidnapped by demons, but he dropped the adventure because he was bored to travel, with few money and demotivated

So basically, is not my fault, is the Vagrant Hero that dropped the mission :hero:

To not count that who played the series will recognize some monsters... the leaf-boars, the Roc, the cavemens, the Giant Mammoth and many others are surely going to be part of the huge universe that i want create!

ps: if you want we can talk in pm about the project, you're one of the three beta-tester/suggestion guys that i was thinking!
