Steel City

This is Steel City! An industrial platformer full of contraptions and fun. Enjoy. Made in Sheffield, UK.

With this level, the main theme of the level was to try and use as few pistons and motor bolts as possible. I really wanted to try and make obsticals using the physics and Iv'e always liked the idea of LBP being able to create machines that actually work. I have seen a few levels that have made it look like the obsticals are actually working, but not many that actually are.

I live in Sheffield, which is famed world wide for its steel industry and even has the nick name Steel City. So I suppose this is really a homage to the place I live and love.

Really hope you enjoy this level - I have enjoyed making it and seeing things work as they should.

Cheers

P.S - Hope you all really enjoy the 'do nothing machine' (google it if your not familiar with it, took me ages to do haha)

It was such a good feeling when the 'launching' platforms finally worked I must have spent a day playing on them before carrying on with building the rest of the level! Still, my personal favourite obstacle is the 'do nothing machine'. What a great feeling that was getting it to work

wow, I just realized you were THE malhat who made the all-sponge levels :3

Steel City was amazing, I still can't believe the amount of great platforming and gameplay contraptions your level had. It was so brilliant, so inspiring! I loved it from the beginning to the end.

Hi all, I've had people leaving messages on the level saying a few of the obsticals are breaking, but I can't seem to find out why.. has anyone else on here experienced any breakages? Stuff like the lifts getting trapped or the monorail type lift that takes you from one area to another not re-spawning... bit worrying..2010-07-21 10:53:00

The first lift was coolies, and the moving conveyor belt thing was interesting.
Glass X swinger thing was neat (do nothing machine), same with the other things that you used motor bolts instead of pistons.

4 stars from me.
Worth checking out!
I have a detailed UK flag cutout/sticker if you want to take a look.
No breakages when I played it.

This level was tight/sweet/awesome ! I enjoyed every moment of it. I saw things in your level I never seen done before. The only part I hated was the sequential spikes/ zipline area. Dodging those spikes was a pain. Still, it doesn't stop me from giving you 5 stars and a <3 for this masterpiece.2010-07-22 05:04:00

I really enjoyed this level, it was short and simple but also very rewarding to get through. It just goes to show you don't really need a story to drive a good level. Oh and as far as breakages go I did not notice a single one.

Just played this, I loved it!! From start to finish was really fun to play. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 from me!! PS nice touch with the union jack at the end, Sheffield is the real Steel City 2010-07-22 18:46:00

Positives
1. The gameplay. It has a feel to it, like it's new and not a reused idea.
2. The scenery (in some places)
3. The flow of the gameplay, the way it all connects. It's a steady path.

Negatives
1. The title? Steel City? If a guy is creative enough to make this kind of level surely he can think of a decent name.

Overall I loved it! :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

talbot-trembler - Thanks for the feedback Glad you enjoyed it! The name was the first thing I thought of because of where I live (Sheffield) and I just liked the way it fitted with what I was about to make and it just kinda stuck. I like it, but I take your point

L1GhTmArE - I still have trouble with those **** spikes now! It was nearly taken out because I couldn't do it haha Glad im not the only one

I spotted a few bits that needed fine tuning, but other than that, im not sure how these people are breaking the level.. ? I get messages on all my levels saying that they have found a place something breaks, which I investigate and try to fix if possible, but sometimes I have no idea what they are talking about and most people don't seem to have these problems.. oh well..

Thanks to all for your feedback once again! Its very useful having a community like this be able to give useful feedback and point you in the right direction as apposed to the short messages on LBP.
