Ideas

Archive: 14 posts

Hi there, I've had LBP for about a year and a half (possibly more) and my moon is (was) cluttered with vehicle prototypes, random creations, and half-finished levels. I just can't seem to get momentum while creating; I usually don't even have a basic idea of what I'm trying to do, and if I do, I usually never finish them(I get stuck, then never go back to it; I run out of ideas; or I just get depressed looking at my terrible level compared to some AMAZING levels out there). I'm pretty sure that if I had a solid idea, I could make a decent level. So, if you have any ideas you are willing to impart unto me, I would be very grateful. And don't worry, if I think my level's good enough to be published I will mention your name (with thanks).

Thanks a lot,

Hmm,
Why don't you create a level based around a dystopia. I think that could be very cool, I'm sure you could find a couple of dystopic short stories on the interwebs that you could use as a guidline. If you find a good one it should give a setting (scenery, time, etc), a story line, characters. Really, it should give you all the information you need for a solid idea.

I'm just throwing out ideas.

Good luck though

whats your favorite book, action movie, video game, whatever... dude just pick something that interests you, draw out a basic overview of what you want the level to be, and go to it. The drawing part is really important (for me at least) because I quickly noticed that planning beforehand is the major difference between my publish levels and my unpublished ones.2010-07-18 04:13:00

For a great Dystopian novel, you might seek to read "The Giver" or "When the Sleeper Wakes." "The Island of Dr. Moreau" is another great book, if you like a little bit of sci-fi.2010-07-18 09:13:00

a way to help finish making a level is to do it with a friend and later on update the parts that they made that you dont think is good but dont forget to give them credit2010-07-18 10:09:00

Hey, I have the same problem finishing stuff. What really helped me stay focussed on one level is entering a LBW competition. They have one every month, so maybe you could try for LBW8 in August.2010-07-18 11:04:00

Yeah, me too. I've just stuck to making contraptions and whatnot. That's why I enter the Contraption Challenges! The 12th one is due to come out soon!2010-07-22 22:48:00

If you've got loads of half finished levels, and you're struggling in terms of making obstacles, why don't you just copy some of you obstacles from all your unfinished levels, slap on a theme/story, and you have it!2010-07-22 23:04:00

The problem is, I usually don't have a theme to slap on it

I would be very interested to learn more about this. What site is it on?
