LBP1 DLC Concerns

Archive: 10 posts

I know it's extremely old news that all LBP1 DLC will be compatible with LBP2, but I thought about it and am a little confused by something. All DLC is built into LBP through patch updates. So your game data has the add-ons, but you can't access them unless you download the unlock key. The unlock key is what you download from the store, not the actual add-on.

My concern is, if someone doesn't own a copy of LBP1, but downloads an add-on for LBP1 to use in LBP2, how will they access it? If they didn't have a copy of LBP1, they couldn't download the patches that include the add-on data. Unless LBP2 will force you to download the latest version of LBP1 (which would be strange) I don't see how it's done.

I know this won't be an issue for many people, but there will most definitely be a few people who never experienced LBP1 and jumped into LBP2.

The definition of backwards compatibility is that previous code works for the new game (or something to that effect). Therefore, DLC that's downloaded in patch updates would be able to be patched onto LBP2, because of the backwards compatibility. Simple, really.

In other words, the code is already included so that all that stuff is available to begin eith.

How do people believe they could over-look stuff like that anyways?

I mean they already said it, they just don't say they're doing something without knowing its at least possible 1st you know?

Well it means that old solution from old platform solution works in new platform solution. So it don't need to be code (LBP are not code btw, it's pure data) but everything that runs on some platform

Probably not?
While a Blu-ray is big enough, I can imagine that room being useful for something else.
Also, this would mean I spent over ?100 on DLC, and the guy buying LBP2 gets it all for free.

Ehh... no. Your PS3 holds all of your DLC and sticker info, while the disk holds the game.

Also, MM said that LBP1 levels are not in LBP2.

The game data for LBP 1 is 861 mb this is the initial install and all the bugfixes and dlc that have been patched in so the dlc will not take up that much space on the LBP 2 disc.

They will not be giving the new users of LBP 2 the LBP 1 dlc for free because there's too much money to be made from selling them the extra content (with the possible exception of the paintinator and water)

LBP 2 will probably read your LBP 1 data to find out what content you've purchased and unlock it in the game. It's been done before with the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games reading the previous entries saves to unlock bonus weapons and Uncharted 2 has the ability to check the previous games data and trophies to give some bonus in game cash.

This has been said numerous times already, there's no need to ask it again.
Think of LBP2 as a major add-on for LBP1, it's using the exact same engine that LBP1 is, it's backwards compatible, everything that you have on LBP1 will be directly transferred to LBP2 because they use the same code and everything. If it wasn't this way, then it is very likely that the 1,000,000+ levels that we all know and love on LBP1 would not make it onto LBP2.
I hope this clears it up for you.

No his right, whatever it will be installed or not all LBP1 DLC data will be on the disc for backward compatibility reasons, of corse you will still need to buy DLC too use it. I only see Water and Paintnator and there support switches could be unlocked for LBP2 use for free
