Bounce Pad Question

Archive: 22 posts

I noticed when watching some of the footage of the Bounce Pads, Sackboy flips, but it different fashions (Spinning, flipping, backflipping, twirling,).

Is there a way to control the direction of the bounce of Sackboy?

The bounce pad just bounces you into the air, you still have the same amount of air control you had over sackboy.

The flips and twirls you see are just fun little animations to make bouncing around more interesting, it does not affect gameplay.

So like, moving to the left will make your Sackperson flip to the left?

Moving left will make you move to the left... I'm not sure if it will make you spin to the left.

The animations are really just a nicety I think...

Oh.
/disappointment
Because i got an idea to take a picture of Sackboy while he's twirling in the air with low-gravity on so i could get a good shot.
It would be cool if you could control it, though.

This is actually a really good idea, but i don't know if the spin speed is affected by gravity, but how fast you fall would be.

Just set up a (i forget what they are called / auto cams) to take a picture of you while you are jumping, then use trial and error to get it right.

Trial and error is the greatest tool an LBP creator has IMO!

Also, remember that because you have so much control over sackboy in the air, someone initially bouncing to the left, might go to the right, or vice versa. Better to just have canned animations in this case that would look good bouncing in either direction.2010-07-16 01:49:00

either way, sounds like fun bounce pads, plus low-gravity. even better if sackboy can be wearing a creatinator, emitting projectiles at enemies while slowly falling. is this all possible?

what i hope is that what i saw was correct:

sackboy flipping when you made him jump

coulda swore one of the videos showed sackboy jump and instead of our normal jump he did one of the flips...REALLY hope this is possible as i'd love to do awesome sackboy ninja flips off buildings and such without having to use a bounce pad

Mm sez they made the flipping and twirling to make even the newest player to feel like a pro. And they make nice eyecandy.2010-07-17 08:16:00

i love eyecandy

especially when in ninja levels doing flips and stunts

EDIT: wondering if continuously pushing X during a jump will make different flips and such....would be nice

Yeah, i was just wondering if you could alter the kind of flip you take when you bounce off a Bounce Pad.

I doubt it. Since the flips are simply there to look cool, I doubt that they'd do unnecessary work like that.2010-07-18 02:07:00

I think I read somewhere that you could control the direction of the flip with the right stick.2010-07-18 04:06:00

Why bother going to that extra work? I doubt it. Especially since you can have power ups that use the right stick like the grappling hook while on bounce pads.2010-07-19 05:14:00

that doesn't mean that you can't control the flip with the right stick when you DON'T have the power-ups

i wasn't aware you already bought a secret copy of the game

But it doesn't mean you can. Assume that you can't until it's proven true.

And frankly, although the devs haven't stated this exactly, on the many occasions where they have remarked on the bounce animation specifically, none have ever mentioned anything about controlling that animation, and thus it's safe to assume that you cannot.

And no amount of hounding people for buying secret copies of the game will change that.

You can control the animation with the right stick. Edit: Actually, I'm not telling what you can make him do. Better to find it out yourself. 2010-07-19 08:56:00

I haven't. I simply pay attention, and observe, and because of that simple fact, I probably know more than almost anyone who hasn't actually played the game yet.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Although it seems that sackboy has been proven guilty of awesome controllable animations!
