Inventory system and platformer!

Kay, this has been tried for definite, but i'm not sure if it was ever done successfully.
For simplicity's sake it will only be accessible at checkpoints. There will be a usable and regainable item system, and to top it all off, it will be a platforming level.
I will probably not be able to make this, but I really want to.
Plot is kind of taking a back seat, but suggestions would be appreciated for plot and items :]
Thoughts and comments are more than welcome.

well, that sounds a bit compicated. idk know if you'll like this, but here is my idea. ok so you have a couple of lvls each lvl based around this item, (a weopon or key of some sort) and you make a main lvl. in the main lvl, you have mutiple sticker switches. the stickers that activiate them, are gained by completing the previous lvl... depending on the sticker you choosen, it gives you a different item. and you use that item throughout the lvl. with every item there is a new story, or new way of beating the lvl... if that doesn't make sense talk to me i'll give you some advice2010-07-24 00:28:00

I like your idea, but I was attempting to make something where a larger amount of items could be used. Its a pretty complex system so it's still under maintenance but it shouldn't be too difficult to do.2010-07-24 01:12:00

Theyd just be emitted. As I said, its a complex system, and I think having "Entrances" would make it that bit harder to create.

have you tried, that psp style? and have this black box follow you the whole lvl, if you want a item, get a sticker place it on the sticker icon on the box, and the item springs ups. does that make sense to you?2010-07-24 01:34:00

haha it is!!!you know how to make that right? the only problem with that is if your making you lvl go up hill you might run into problems. and you might only be able to use two layers, unless you build it right... haha hey if you have a sword in your lvl. make one a think layered sword make it emit upwards with the thin layer and when it comes back to the ground use a second emitter to make it a normal layerd sword i thought that would be a cool effect for your lvl.2010-07-24 01:45:00

Im trying to think of an effective inventory system myself for LBP2.
I already have a save system idea (that would probably work in LBP1)

Yeah I actually did a whole Inventory/HUD thing a few months ago. Works perfectly, you might want to check it out. I can't remember if it's still there or not, but if it is just look for my HUD level. If I did get rid of the level that had the whole inventory thing in it, just add me on PSN.
