LittleBigToolbox [Not a level, but an idea]

Archive: 11 posts

Ok, so here's something I thought of while playing the beta. What we need is a repository of completed machine parts. (If you're able to share things that way which I think you can)

What I mean is, say you want something, but can't quite think of how to build it, which has/will happened to us all, we should have a catalog of items that people would be willing to share as a helping block.

So let's say I made a working crane bucket for a level, but I think that it would be useful for other people, I could then make it available to people here who want it.

I dunno how exactly it would work; I'm not too sure how the sharing could be, but if there is a way, and if I were clear enough on what I mean, then this could be a good idea for beginners who don't quite know what to do or people who can't figure out how to make something finish a level.

Ps. Sorry if it's in the wrong place or it's been discussed before, this just popped in my head and I'm off to the gym and then do homework.

You could make a seperate account, send all the items to that account, and then that account puts the items into a level, publishes it, and so on..?2008-10-12 22:14:00

Wow. Excellent idea! This would be very useful! :hero:

Should this belong in either the Creation Showcase forum (helping build creations) or the Event Forum (this is a project requiring the community)?

EDIT: We should probably make a list of tools that can be put into this toolbox. The first addition I can think of is Cartman's new switches that he has made. And Landail's amazing creations as well? Of course, we need their permission to add their creations into the level.

I'd rather keep mine as a separate level, as they are generalized switches and not full-fledged, task-specific contraptions.

I honestly think this site should eventually have a "Toolbox" of levels that serve this very need. If we did this, however, I'd want different levels for different types of tools. For example, my "switches" level would be one level, another could be co-op oriented objects (for example, a door that only opens when you have two people), etc. I could help build some, as with the switches I made, I can accomplish pretty much any task.

What do you think? Want this to be a long-term project instead of just a level?

We can create levels for the purpose, have them run through a level and get a bunch of prize bubbles or something like that.

Can you actually share objects? I capture an object, can we send it to someone? That's what I'm not clear on.

You run through, and before collecting each switch, the switch is explained to you and you traverse some obstacle that works because of that switch. It's really cool, actually. It's on the servers, so now all we have to do is wait.

I had a similar idea a couple days ago. A warehouse-esque level (think of a home depot with elevators for sack people) filled with the best sharable objects created by the community. Each floor (shelf) would be divided into sections depending on what kind of object it is (decorative, vehicle, etc.)

The tool search idea is really good! I know I'd like to be able to see how other people handled similar building problems. Adding a heart system to the tools would work well to crap-sort

I really like the idea, but I thought that this was already going to be the LBPC Hotel level?2008-10-16 18:49:00

Great idea; I was doing something similar with my logic gates and more complex programming tools, and I'd love to help out the community with any tools I can build!

If anyone ever runs into a spot where they can't get a certain 'event' in their level working right, gimme a shout... I'll be more than happy to figure a way to build a tool to make it work.
