The Hero Chronicles LV4 The Lost LagoonJustinArt http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=19149The Lagoon is invested by sea monsters. Solve the mysteries of the ancient city underwater and eliminate the curse. Features swimming in real water and item searching. This massive level features real water and items to discover plus some puzzles to enjoy and neat obstacles to do underwater. The visuals are a lot more work than my previous levels and the lighting of the underwater feels like you're in the water. The level series is about to get bigger and this level is about to show you proof of work. SPECIAL THANKS TO: JAQUAN1254- For testing the level for me before I published it. POMS- For an cool prize object in "The Bunker 2" that I added to this level. And everyone in LBPC for more encouragements and inspirations. | 2010-07-13 08:20:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
and the lighting of the underwater feels like you're in the water. So, we're not actually in the water. Anyways, I'll check it out. | 2010-07-13 08:52:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
This is a nice level. Platforming was simple and fun. The dialogue was very funny. Lol @ the "seamonkeys uncle" part. The water puzzles were very good. I like how you used the decorations in the background. I also like how you had the fish moving. It was a very nice touch. The boss fight was unique and crazy lol. This level could be better though. The rocks throughout the whole level looked too blocky. Give them more character witht the corner editor. On the same not you need to decorate more. Add some more decorations or you could use the gradient stickers to give it more life. The puzzle where you had to bring the light to the whales mouth was a little hard to figure out at 1st. Maybe a little better hint like a cutscene showing its a whale. Overall it was a nice puzzle level. I enjoyed the puzzles alot. I gave it 5 stars because it truly isnt a 1 star level. For the F4F could you check out my level Kinetic Crisis. The link is in my sig. PS: 1st place!!! | 2010-07-13 18:54:00 Author: L1GhTmArE Posts: 519 |
Hey JustinArt, I have been looking forward to Hero Chronicles Level 4 since my review of Level 3. Likes: Cool Jelly Fish! Swimming Fish in the puzzle area look great!! The whole underwater area is wicked, and using the turning wheels is a great way to indicate that the player should use R1 to change depth. I have to say my favorite part is the mini-map with the lighted objectives. The boss was very very cool looking and that was a Genius health bar idea! Suggestions: In the initial dialog from the dolphin: Don't be fooled on (*by) my looks, I'm an (*a) secret scientist. The part with the three rising columns: The box on the ledge with the switch kinda ruins this part visually, and it causes a depth issue that sends you into the smoke if you jump while the platform is rising. Edges and materials were a little thrown together looking. The level looks amazing none the less, but not as pretty as Magical Forest. :star::star::star:<3 Another great level man! Well Done! I was a little surprised at the corners and material blending, I would say you have some polish work to do before it looks as nice as its predecessors. F4F Sky Temple (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28941-Sky-Temple&p=502375#post502375) -DT Thanks dTOtheTEE. I'll try using more corner editing and decorations as suggested by you and L1ightMaRe. The level has been finished a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't gain access to PSN for 2 weeks and I haven't pay attention to this level then so I must have missed some things like the initial dialogue you mentioned. I'll fix it more. Thanks. | 2010-07-13 23:53:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
As suggested by dTOtheTEE and L1ghtMaRe, I added more decorations and polished certain areas of the level. I also fixed the camera angle of the area where you raise the column. I also fixed the grammer of the first dialogue. And I also added some gradient stickers to underwater section. Hope the level's first update works well. | 2010-07-18 20:51:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
It's out, Woohoo! I'll play this sometime. Looks pretty atmospheric! | 2010-07-19 16:21:00 Author: Arradi Posts: 183 |
Hi JustinArt As you asked I play your level The good : - The map puzzle with the lights - the use of the 3D layer glitch tool for the background - the entrance to the deepwater part - the key which enables the sackboy to change depth The less good : - the boss, a little annoying - the left invisble wall at the begining (maybe I'd prefer a real obstacle) Usually I'm not found of water level but yours made me change my mind Good job ! | 2010-07-19 20:14:00 Author: onisdream Posts: 80 |
Well, this is a good level... It definitely has some atmosphere, but sometimes feels a little empty, because of the large-scale setting. I'm sure you will be able to tighten up the level plan in the future. Nevertheless, it is a good level, and a very good expansion to the quickly growing Hero Chronicles series, which I have become a fan of because your unique level building style . Beautiful starting! I also agree with the above user, the invisible wall should be a physical barrier. Flappy's lower jaw has a little too much shadowing, but that's LBP's fault. Maybe it could be avoided by making it a tad bigger, but that could ruin the look so maybe you shouldn't change it. Good platforming part with the waterfall. I liked how you went back to where you started and could jump a mighty leap from the top of the cave to the water. The key part is good. Also, nice use of shortcuts here. Then comes a multipath part. Yessss! You know I'm a fan of these, and this one's no difference. Maybe the map is a little too complete, but that adds to the relaxing-ness of your level. Can't remember what was after that, I think it was the boss. It looked great (really big and ugly) and the gameplay was good - but there's a few nitpicks... I like how the blocks shrunk, and how you could still use your body to push it to it's throat. I also liked how the spiky blocks reacted when the boss pushed them. However, it's very hard to die to the boss himself and the sensor's radius wasn't very good. Sometimes, he would lose HP when the rock didn't go in his mouth, and somethimes he would clearly eat the block but not lose HP. Also, if he's to be damaged only when he "eats" the block, the HP should be lowered to, say 5 or 6. Overall, Great level, My rating raised it to 4 stars as well I think I forgot to heart it, but will do it tomorrow. | 2010-07-20 20:44:00 Author: Arradi Posts: 183 |

I added more decorations, plus I added more moving fishes to give this level a major visual boost. And Arradi, I'll fix the level's boss a bit in the level's next update. | 2010-07-20 21:57:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Returning the F4F. :x Sorry it took so long: Pros: - Story driven levels are by far my favorite types of levels on LBP. Good job! - Those moving fish (and sea horses as well) have actually inspired me to do the same if I ever go about creating a level (well...not the same, but it inspired me with some ideas of my own). When a level inspires me, even with the smallest thing, I love it that much more. - The boss fight was awesome. The shark both looked cool, and it was unique. Very fun. - Loved the idea of a map to guide people to the locations of the different coins. Very original as I hardly ever see it done. Cons - The visuals for the most part didn't do a whole lot for me. Kind of bland and lifeless other than the fish and sea horses. (This is pretty much your own blunder, sadly, I personally feel that visuals are huge part of a level which is why I gave it:...) :star::star::star::star: I hope to see some more levels in the series in the future. :3 The next level sounds like it'll be a lot like Hailfire Peaks from Banjo-Tooie. xD It gets me all giddy. | 2010-07-21 02:01:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
Fun level. I'm not a big fan of underwater gameplay in lbp, but you had some great gameplay elements down there. Pro: like the underwater key-path love the dolphin map is a nice touch cool boss con: camera is a little akward by the lever at the 3 raised platforms the rocky walls could use a bit more jagged edges. The corner editter is my favorite tool. Boss is a bit hard overall, it was a fun level. I gave it 4/5 and a positive tag. | 2010-07-23 10:57:00 Author: DrunkenFist_Lee Posts: 172 |
Hey very interesting level, first time seeing the treasure map gameplay used in your level. Sadly I don't think I can offer much new feedback as what has been said on this thread before covers most of it. Good design, map a plus, boss a bit too tedious. Overall a very enjoyable adventure, 4/5. Also, if you get time, please try my level "A Realm Forgotten" and leave a comment on my thread, Thanks! | 2010-07-23 17:06:00 Author: Lockstitch Posts: 415 |
Finally got round to playing this. Very fun and good scenery. What every level needs really! My only complaint was the boss. As Lockstitch said, a little too tedious. :star::star::star::star: | 2010-07-23 22:16:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
As i played the other one i thought this wasn't as a good as the last so i was disappointed... the game-play is repetitive and i don't see anything good in the story but something that i liked where the visuals. So try to keep up and you'll do awesome stuff | 2010-07-24 01:50:00 Author: ferrrch Posts: 429 |
Thanks for the feedbacks everyone. All I did in the level's new update is that I added more decorations and I fixed the radius of the switch that's activated when you put the glowing blue rock into the boss' inner jaw as what Arraid mentioned. As what you read in AeroForce22's feedback of this thread, my next level is "The Hero Chronicles LV5 Glacier Volcano" which will arrive on Monday. You'll be surprised how much work I put in this level. | 2010-07-24 18:34:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Hey, thanks for the feedback on my level! Pretty good level you've got here. I like what you did with the 3D layer glitch as it definitely made some areas that could of been bland, more lively. I like how you had to get numerous keys to advance, as that really added a lot of time to the level, and some exploration, which is always great. As for fixes, you may want to think of adding smaller details to the level, as most detail you added was quite large. (the decorations/structures) and also, during the boss, when the glowing blue rocks floated to far up, they just dissolved and I couldn't use them. Is this intentional because if it isn't it would help others if you made them not get destroyed. Overall I gave the level 4 stars. Good job | 2010-07-24 23:27:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
I updated this level yesterday with some visual improvements and a small change of the boss battle. I added the cracks stickers to some areas of the level so that the underwater looks more ancient and I shorten the boss' life energy so that it won't take long for players to defeat the boss. Now that my recent level "LV6 Sky Metropolis" bumped into this site's cool level pages, I thought of trying to give some of the other "Hero Chronicles" levels some improvements while I'm working on LV7. | 2010-08-24 23:44:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Hi again, this level had some very nifty lighting, and the corner editing was pretty fine too! It did get a little bit boring under water, as Cog said, adding smaller details can really change a level, check out a few of CompherMC's or Morgana25's levels and you'll see what I mean. There's not much else to add that hasn't been said, so, nice work, I rated the level :star::star::star::star::star:. | 2010-09-04 16:30:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |

Well I made this level much more fun by adding additional layer glitches and I added an jellyfish somewhere in the underwater ruins. I also added more decorations and most of the newly added ones are small too. Also I mentioned earlier back in the feedback of "LV7 Dragon Ruins" that I added something cool at the end of the level. Hope this helps. | 2010-09-25 16:53:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Nice level, really like the visual touches like the subtle use of the 3D layer glitch. Clever design on some of the characters Pretty all around. Only a couple minor issues... Underwater it's a little hard to tell where the boundaries of the first layer are when the second layer is the same material. The path that leads to the squid type enemy guarding an emblem, there is a sponge on the 2nd layer you have to grab to pass through. On the way back it's hard to tell it's on your side and I Felt like I was stuck until I just tried grabbing at it anyway. That and there isn't much action... | 2010-09-29 13:09:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

I completely forgot to add something to this level in the previous update that could improve the gameplay of this level and that's riding on a fish in the underwater section so that you'll be in certain areas of the maze much faster. Also a couple of gameplay mechanics have been added to this level. | 2010-10-02 17:01:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
