over coming LBP logic

Archive: 8 posts

When I first bought little big planet I thought I would be the best at creating. But after hooking it up to the internet I realized such levels made by the adipose, lousdestruc, steve big guns, and a couple others were way out of my expertise.I have a very big imagination only if I could blot it out on a level.I already currently have a player helping me his name is one eyed banshee but I want to learn how to create those FPS's and such so if one of these big creators could spare a few minits each day just to teach me some logic I would be much obliged.Oh and if Special_D_ could help me that would be even better.2010-07-11 20:14:00

Have you checked out the LBPC Logic Packs? They are quite excellent at going through logic from beginners to advanced items.2010-07-11 20:38:00

Just search "logic" and there will be MENY levels that explane it, be sure to play the logicpack like what JWW said, it is made BY the pro, well known creaters here at LBPC.
You should go here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?102-Logic-Pack) feel free to read and ask any questions
Its not hard to overcome. all you need to know is witch is witch. like AND (both inputs need to be + for the out put to be +) OR (one input needs to be + for the output to be +) there are other ones that are not as used like those.

USeful tip: Image what do you want to achieve even if it's impossible (but don't get too far ) how you want your level to act and response to player actions, then use all your brain power to think out how to use LBP tools to achive it.

I could give you few tips, but first i need to know what your current skillz. So question do things like programing, editing configuration files, excel functions or play with databases in past?

I had the same problem when I was starting out really getting to grips with logic, I could see stuff working and pistons moving but could never work out how. The way I figured it out was by getting some of incinerator22's prizes and when placing them carefully checking piston/switch and bolt settings. Then also fiddling around with inverse settings on switches and direction controlled pistons

That is how I made my:
Puzzle piece emitter = emits different item (1/10) every time a single switch is grabbed.
Rotary dappled lighting = mag switches set to speed on spinning disc connected to a series of spotlights
Switch deactivation tool = 1 switch controlling multiple devices deactivates one device at a time when secondary trigger is activated by controlled devices.

LBP logic should not be over come as such... more like embraced.
Yes it can be extremely daunting, and terribly complex. But if you get the basics sorted you can string together combinations of simple logic to achieve amazing results. Most logic relies on pistons and mag switches.
In the end it took me about 3 weeks to get good and work out how things can be made. I was silly enough to try all this without visiting the LBPC logic levels. If I had done this it would have taken half that time.

The future is bright, the future is logic.

Logic is quite simple, just take your time!

Coming from an electronics background, I already had a pretty good handle on these things, although the traditional implementations of more complex circuits are typically very thermo-inefficient in LBP1, since it's a physics engine, not an electronics engine.

Once LBP2 is out, however, you'll probably find that these implementations will start becoming more efficient. There's a good website (http://tams-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/applets/hades/webdemos/toc.html) I found which has an electronics simulation applet, and a whole bunch of demos, which pretty much explain how to build something as complex as a microprocessor from basic gates.

Only issue now is whether the latency model of gates in LBP2 will allow for feedback circuits to work correctly or not.
