LBPC Treasure Hunt: Recruiting Now!

Right now we're looking at recruiting people to help us get up and running. If your interested in what the Treasure Hunt would be exactly, look at the bottom of this post and open up the spoiler tag.

We are going to need 3 groups of people:


Level Staff:

Level Managers (2+):

Recruit people willing to build levels/include treasure clues in their already made levels


Level Builders (lots):

People willing to build levels/include treasure clues in their already made levels




Treasure Staff (5-10+):

Build/collect prizes to include throughout the hunt and at the end (we will need a lot of prizes so that hunters remain interested)


Link Staff (5+):

Figure out how levels link together, how all the clues and puzzles will work




Note that this program will be in planning for at least several weeks after release; so joining could be a decent sized commitment.

Anyone interested post here with what task you would like to help with (Feel free to help across multiple areas!). I will be posting more threads here with more information and places to post ideas.

Description of the project:
This is something I would be interested in doing some point a long way down the line, but it would take a ridiculous amount of organization, so would be done a long time after release.

Basically this would involve a huge string of secret areas, each with a few clues leading to the next (and maybe a small prize), and at the end of the trail there would be a large cache of prize objects.

The main idea is that each of these secret areas would be hidden in different levels, all throughout LBPC goers creations.

So perhaps someone would play through my level and win a sticker that simply said "Creative". Not very much on its own, but someone who knows about the treasure hunt might think: "Creative! I know that guy! I'm going to explore his levels some more!". And somewhere in something Creative made, there would be a sticker switch to more clues.

Some other points worth mentioning:

This will probably require a decent commitment, and will be in planning for quite a while.
Some reasons why:

The hunt will span across many levels, and it will be important to get all of these up and running within a time span of around a day, tops, so that there aren't loose ends while the hunt is still being built.
We will need to find/create a lot of prizes and levels.
Keeping the links interesting and original will require a lot of careful planning.


The example in my original post is just that; an example. Not all links would have to do with forum names and sticker switches, we will try and make them as varied as possible.

I'd be excited to build levels with clues/treasures in them, I'm already planning to make heaps of levels with secret areas. I think I can make some pretty inovative ones.

Hmmm, I really like this idea, but I think you should be careful how you organize it. I don't think you should have any Average Joe able to enter their levels into the treasure hunt, I think once the game is out and decent levels are churning out, people can then nominate their level to feature a treasure hunt clue and you can pick ones you think are worthy.

Secondly, I don't think you should have the clue too vauge. Perhaps you should straight up tell the player what level the next clue is in but make the clue very hidden and definetly not easy to come across accidently. So in my opinion, the clue should be something along the lines of:

Level: Walls and Falls
Creator: Saz'oChulls
Clue: The blue bird flies north, but where does his red brother go?

Lastly, make sure the final prize is really high quality stuff. It would be lame to spend days on a treasure hunt to find the prize is a rocket car, some sort of sponge man and a waffle on wheels.

Anyways, I think this is cool so I'll glady help in the way in the form of having a level feature a clue (If you think it's up to standards), making prizes and figuring out how the clues will work. So I'll help any way I can basically. ^_^

I would love to include a treasure hunt item in my level. I plan on making a really large ice/mountain level. People should check if it's actually good before giving me an item to put it in there though.2008-10-13 16:40:00

This is a great idea. I'd be happy to put a clue in a level I create, assuming I get a PS3 sometime soon. That's still up in the air. I really hope I can though.

Sounds like a marvellous project to me Basically I'd put myself down for willing to be anything bar a Level Manager. Doesn't seem 'hands-on' enough for my liking Should be getting the game on Monday so I should be able to get a bit of level-creation practice in 2008-10-19 19:47:00

I'd love to help out, this seems like a really fun idea Capn! I'll be glad to add hidden clues in my levels, I already put loads of hidden spots in my levels so using one to be a clue instead of just hidding bubbles and prizes would be completely fine with me! (So +1 Level Builder!) And I'd also like to build some prizes. I started working on some cool contraptions before the beta went offline and I'd like to give them away to those who take on the hunt! put me down as a level builder. I could just add a prize if I create a cool item or enemy in one of my levels but I wouldn't be interested in just making a prize.

Do all the levels need to have one central theme or one person (charachter) who comes back into every level? I would really like this (the charachter part) because it would make the levels fit together instead of just being seperate levels with a clue somewhere at the end.

Hey I would love to be a level builder because I love making secret areas but I never have aything to put in them.

P.S. Is this still being organized somehow? Cause it sounds like a good idea thats sorta just died... Anyway let me know. I have nothing published yet but I'll run someone through what I got so far if they wanna quality test.

I can be a level builder and can also help with the link staffing. I'm working on an Ice Caves level that would require a LOT of exploration and secrets in sections 5 and 6 (I divide my levels into sections). If anyone wants to quality test it and I'll just add you and show you what I have so far in my moon. (Though I'm still just starting section 4 )

My afore-mentioned level has no plot whatsoever (besides an ice monster that makes several appearences and is the boss of the level) so I'm all for this.

I'm down, I can toss in sticker switch on the last chapter of my level, that elads to clue / treasure. I cna also make a treasure to...

OH, how about each treasure has a second prize, tat consists of a puzzle piece. The player than takes all the puzzle peices in create mode and assambles them for his final clue to the big awesome cache?

This whole thing sounds like a very neat idea.

I'd love to help on this. Level design is what Im good at, so if I can help with that, I'd be happy to. I'd keep the difficulty on said levels low-ish if necessary.


Im good at actual level design, and I seem to be able to put together large and complicated functioning objects, but Im really no good at artistic....ness..... so stuff I make likely isnt gonna be particularly pretty.
