Creature that "kills itself"

Archive: 11 posts

Hey all,

I have a question regarding a creature in a "survival mode" minigame I'm creating.

I'm attempting to make a tiny creature (one square in the small grid). It's circular, has four legs, and is on fire. I have an emitter that times the creation of these creatures. One shot from the paintinator should kill it. However, I'm unaware as to how to make this shot kill it.

Explosions are out. There's scenery that I need to keep pretty, not smudged with black.

I've attempted to make a vulnerable brain on the inside of the creature that stabs itself (haha) when the paintinator meter is all the way down, as well as emitting a paintballl inside the creature to shoot its brain when the meter is down. Neither worked.

Also, I've made it much larger to test and try some of my ideas, but that hasn't worked either.

Thanks,

Ryhas

EDIT: Dissovable material worked. But is there any other way to do this? I noticed there's a creature in the VR Challenge minigame that is surprisingly similar to my own, and I wonder how it works. And, just out of curiosity, is there any way to make a sort of "auto-kill" by stabbing or destroying the brain without the player actually touching it?

Try attaching a one shot switch to a vulnerable brain.

Then when the switch is activated, it should die.

Try attaching a one shot switch to a vulnerable brain.

Actually the brain doesn't need to be vulnerable to kill it with a one-shot switch.

What the vulnerable setting does is cause any creature legs/wheels attached to the same creature to be vulnerable to hazards such as gas, fire, electricity and plasma, unless any part of the creature is made of a hazarded material, in which case it will only be vulnerable to any hazarded materials which aren't contained in the creature.

Making a creature vulnerable to certain hazards is the way in which the following glitches can be produced (but only prior to Leerdammer):-

Plasmafied material
Thin/theck/thack gas
Walkthrough materials (although can also be done with a one-shot brain)

Very nice! Thanks for the further info. I honestly for the life of me couldn't figure out what "vulnerable" meant. I just remember at one point I was playing around with a larger version of the enemy and it bounced into these spikes and died and I couldn't figure out why it was so wimpy all of a sudden, haha.

However, I think by vulnerable, Doopz479 may have meant unprotected? One of the first things I tried was setting a switch to a vulnerable, protected brain, though I doubt the switch was set to one-shot.

I actually haven't tried anything since the last post because I got super-distracted by creating another (real) level. I'm liking how the little bouncy dudes are turning out, though!

So... I'd like to hear more about these hazard glitches, especially the plasmafied material. Anywhere I can find a tutorial for this?

there are no tutorials they are patched.but you can find editable versions of them that can be material changed, corner edited, and stenciled. Actully just go to sehvens account and copy his glitched material lvl! he has theck and thack, and SSOOOOO many cow glitched materials( property change glitch). And for plasmafied material, there is one in a copyable 3d glitch lvl i played. It is fully editable. Though sometimes it will no let you smear the material. so just make it bigger and make a hollow square out of another material and cut a square peice of the glitched material. That will let you edit it freely! and for other glitches go to search(on community) and click on highest rated, there is a glitch lvl there by Kooleo(or something like that) hope this helps!!2010-07-12 20:39:00

Don't think that matters.

They're mostly patched.

There's even more in my level, by which I mean every possible combination (over 2000).

And for plasmafied material, there is one in a copyable 3d glitch lvl i played. It is fully editable. Though sometimes it will no let you smear the material.

You can pick up four fully editable and smearable versions of plasma material (different intensities) from my level. Just material change to whatever you like.

There's a quite a few in there, but not many are particularly useful.

Lol'd at this. Aya's level pwns, you get a prize bubble containing 192 cow-glitched materials, which is the 12 basic materials with tons of different properties.

Anyway, just wanted to say that the creature brain type (protected / unprotected, vulnerable / invincible) is immaterial. It will still die if triggered by a one-shot switch.

I've updated it since then. There's now an additional 8 prizes bubbles with the same property variations on all story mode materials split by theme (Gardens, Savannah, etc.).

Hahahaha! 192 cows... I need this. I really do.

Okay, good to know what works. Thanks for the clarification.

I think I'll do that. I have a place I can use them in my in-development level. Also... probably the cows.
