Lag Problem

Archive: 6 posts

Ive been working on a level for a long time now and its had its snags but it was working fine. Last night I did some work on it and it was working fine with no lag (I was playing on my moon) and then went to sleep. I woke up to test it and see what I can do to improve it and as soon as you start the level it lags like crazy. Can emmiters be the problem? Because it seems to lag when any fire material is around and it started to lag on my boss fight too.2010-07-08 19:43:00

Lots of fire material can cause lag, many small parts, many moving parts, and/or many lights in one place. I'm sure there are more causes, but that's all I can think of at the moment.2010-07-08 19:46:00

I think my level had growing pains or something. My ps3 froze during the play but when I turned it back on everything was fine in both versions. It probably was just my ps3 or something acting up because it ran smooth without any lag.2010-07-08 20:04:00

Basically too much of ANYTHING in one place is lag crazy. Emitted items that emit more stuff can cause some lag and yeah if it's surrounded by fire all over LAAAAG!

Can we define 'many'? And does the lag show when testing on moon or is it only seen during Online play/multiplay?2010-07-09 14:45:00

Another thing which causes a perceived lagginess is the 160-hour bug. To check if you have that...

Make a backup copy of the level.
Delete everything from the level.
Add in one block DM, one block something else, connect them with a stiff piston set to 0.1s.
When you unpause the simulation, if the piston doesn't appear to move, then you have the bug.

If you do have it, then check out this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24887-160-Hour-Bug-Recovery).
