Besides Media Molecule, Which Small Developer Group is your Favorite?

Archive: 16 posts

We all like a certain developer group for stuff they make. Most are rather large and easily recognizable and well known. But is there a group that's particularliy small, but makes games that you like?

For me, it's Treasure.

Why? Well, their games are 1) fast paced 2) a great challenge and 3) they're crazy, but amazingly fun.

My first game I played made by them was Sin & Punishment, when it was release on the Wii Virtual Console last year (best 1200 points spent in my life), and I was pretty hooked. Still my most played VC game, and I couldn't be any more happy for the sequel.

Now, I'm trying to get my hands on the rest of their games, especially Gunstar Heroes, and try out Bangai-O spirits.

So, any small developer you are fond of?

Revolution software, the company that made the broken sword series. Rare back in the olden days were fairly small, I liked that then. I can't think of many other small developers. They tend to grow in size pretty quickly once they've had a good or great hit.2008-10-12 09:00:00

Yeah would agree with rare back in the days they made some crackers such as goldeneye, but like you pointed out not many studios stay small one hit either sees them getting bought out or become a big company.

Criterion Games maybe (dunno how small they are) for their outstanding post-release game support and substantial free add-ons.2008-10-13 00:41:00

NanaOn-Sha, the creators of Parappa the Rapper, Um Jammer Lammy and Vib Ribbon. They've been in hiding for years though.

Parappa 3 rumours for PS3 have been circling in recent days though.

I don't know if you consider them small, but... Team 17. Worms is epic.

They rock. Plus they're from the UK, just like Mm.

I also like Naughty Dog, back in the Crash Bandicoot days (CB1 = my favourite game, ever) I think they were small.

Alex.

Well, S&P 2 is breaking that ritual of Treasure's. I loved Mischief Makers as well.

That's pretty funny. Media Molecule was started by a group of employees from Lionhead, who broke off to start a smaller, more focused company.

Insomniac Games FTW!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you no-brained losers, they made the Resistance series, started Spyro the Dragon by making the first three, and of course, the Ratchet & Clank series (except Size Matters)!!!!!!

Also, look at the top of the page here: http://www.insomniacgames.com/

aww, yes! Team 17, they're awesome too, I had to import my Worms 4: Mayhem from UK though, they didn't sell it in Belgium!
