LittleBigPlanet Developers Interview

Archive: 15 posts

Hey guys. Thought I'd post some highlights from an interview with the creators of LittleBigPlanet. The whole interview can be found here:

LBP Developers Interview (http://www.lbpcentral.com/media-molecule-interviewed/)

I'd have to agree that they've made a game that can appeal to almost anyone, including people who aren't into games. It's one of those experiences that people will probably want to try out without thinking of it as a standard video game.

........When we?re sat here in the studio we all love the product but we don't quite know whether this is an illusion or if it is actually awful. So when it gets out there and people react positively it validates what we?re doing. And also our parents and friends can see it ? because it's the first game we?ve been this involved in to a serious degree for many of us. Random people on the internet are great, but when your parents see it? My mum loves LittleBigPlanet, but she hates games. She thinks they are all about shooting people in the head.

........It's very appealing to people to be creative. People like to do up their homes, for instance, and pick curtains ? but they?ll never draw a blueprint. So we had to work out how you can give people fun, but also the beauty of composition and creating something to be proud of.

........I am actually really surprised with how many different people it's connected with. I?m surprised that so many of the more hardcore have taken to it. It's just gone down well with a big mix of people. But it's been so positive that it makes us all want to make it even more.

Word has it that Little Big Planet, from the makers of the Rag Doll Kung Fu game, would be starting up a beta as well. Again, E3 could hold the key to all this and Sony could really give its users something spectacular if it wanted.

The 10 Most Important Games of E3 2007

LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation 3)

Why it's important: The Go! Team theme song for LittleBigPlanet has been stuck in our heads since GDC several months ago. And it's hard not to think about the cooperative platformer any time we begin to hum the melody. E3 will offer an opportunity for the mass media to get their hands on the game. Is it everything it's been hyped up to be? Will it breathe life into the user-generated content genre, or will it be overshadowed by big guns like Halo 3, Killzone and Mario Galaxy?

Nice Finds! Great work guys and gals! Hopefully E3 will show us some new levels and content creation options....

Here is what appears to be a desert level. Not a new screen, but still pretty cool. Love the character:
