My Levels never get played

Archive: 9 posts

I'm sure there are a million of these threads around here, but I really am getting annoyed that my levels never get plays. Once out of desperation i even tried to make a level that was similar to those frequent platforming levels just to get some of those casuals and get on the cool pages. I'll accept that my levels will never be even close to the amount of quality that most of the people on these forums are able to create, but my problem is that i get like ONE play and that is all. I dont even get a chance, the most i have is 16 hearts and 156 plays on one level me and my brother created when the game was released!

I'm wondering, for the rest of you that used to or do have the same problem as me, what do you do to get your levels more plays? I'm starting to get desperate and may create a bomb survival level. Please dont make me do it hahahaha.

This happened to me, until I figured out about the republishing trick...

To republish, edit your level already published level that you have on your moon, and change something, maybe something small, like moving a small piece of dark matter somewhere, after that, save it. Then, publish that level over the first publish of the same level, every time you do this, your level appears on the front page or so of the cool pages for a short amount of time, gathering plays.

It's very tedious though, as you have to do it about every 10-50 minutes, however, once you get about 1,000 plays, then you can stop doing it, as the level will already be on the cool pages somewhere.

In your F4F threads are you actively going and playing other F4F levels and leaving great feedback? Really helps in getting your thread more popular as you have more people posting and leaving comments. That won't be a ton of plays, but if they are great levels it will jump quite a bit. If they need work, then you get some great feedback to help you improve either that level or towards a new level.

Republishing helps, but currently the state of the cool pages is... yikes.. I don't know of anyone getting many plays unless they are one of the favorite creators of lots of players. Good luck!

One of the most helpful tricks is the Republishing trick. It gets you tons of plays if done right. My levels have never ever gotten over 500 plays until... I found out a very fast and efficient way of Republishing. Republishing does a great job at getting you more plays. There's a few simple steps:
1. Copy the level you want to boost up, then edit that copy and add a block of dark matter somewhere it can't be seen.
2. First publish the copy with the dark matter over the one you published, then publish the one without dark matter over the one you published.
3. Do this every minute
You should see your play count rising after about 5 minutes of republishing. Every time you republish, your level will shove onto the Newest Levels page, and the more often you Republish, the higher on the Newest Levels page it will go. Just keep on republishing until your level reaches about 1000 plays (this could take you a few hours, if not a day..). After that, you can republish every hour instead of every minute, and your play count will still rise.
Because you republish two times every minute (by publishing the version with the Dark Matter and then the version without the Dark Matter), (i think) it goes even faster than the usual republishing trick.

This is how i got my level "Avalanche!" about 3000 plays in 2 days. On the second day I only republished for one hour in the morning, after that I did no republishing. The LBPC thread also helped, but if what plays is what you're after, then Republishing is what you need.

P.S. Once the cool pages system is fixed (they say they're going to fix a lot of Community issues in LBP2), this Republishing trick would no longer be needed as the quality of your level would matter more than how often you publish it - which is great. But until then, Republishing is one of the best ways of getting your level noticed.

Sounds like thats what I'm going to be doing then. I atleast want one of my levels to get the plays they deserve. Its ridiculous the kinds of levels that get all the plays on the cool pages. btw if i republish a level while people are playing it, does that screw anything up for them?2010-07-09 00:06:00

Nope! I've never seen such a problem.

No problem .

No, in fact, when people are playing your level, the republishing trick will work even faster. This is because with players in it, it is seen as busy, and it has a higher chance to get on the higher pages when your level is being played/busy.
