Ushiro - New Level 5 PSP RPG Trailer

Archive: 3 posts

OK. This game seems amazing. Firstly the graphics are fantastic for a PSP game. Secondly I find the evocative imagery and subject matter fascinating. Thirdly the character design is awesome and I loved how he smiles before he attacks. And lastly, it's being made by Level 5 who have an incredible history of making excellent RPGs including Dark Cloud 1 & 2, Jeanne D'Arc, Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy and currently are making White Knight Chronicles.

The premise is basically that you are a Shinigami (Japanese personification of death) and help grant people's wishes and fight monsters. There is little other information, except for a few pictures and stuff but I can't wait to see and find out more.

From IGN:

For the PSP comes Ushiro, a name that literally translates to "Back." This horror RPG puts players in the role of a Shinigami (that's a Japanese god of death... Wikipedia it) named Reiichiro Ushiro. Your goal is to keep people from doing bad things, like committing suicide or crimes.

The game features two primary forms of play. You can move about town as Reiichiro, listening to people's problems. You can also take direct possession of people, taking full control over them, and gaining access to new areas.

Also included are menu driven battles in which Reiichiro faces off against a demon known as "Form." Details are scarce at the moment, but it appears that you'll be able to cast spells and call upon summons.

From Gamekyo:

Horror RPG where a shinigami clings on behind people that have exhausted their lives to experience their lives.
- As a shinigami you observe, possess, and fulfil the wishes of the person you're attached to.
- There's a scene where you fight a monster that is an embodiment of a person's malice.

What is it with the PSP and an overabundance of RPGs? It seems like one out of three games is one.

Graphics, yeah, are pretty PSP phenomenal. The theme of the thing, however... Weeeird... Last time I checked, Death wasn't the type of guy to go around helping people...but maybe in Japan he likes to make people feel good before they die.

I think what you'll do in the game is help them fulfil their final wish. Wish there were more details as it's unclear whether you'll actually save the person's life or just help them but then let them die anyway.

Also regarding RPGs I'd say it has an abundance but when is there ever and "over" abundance of RPGs .
