Creator Spotlight - Help Wanted!

Archive: 58 posts

Hello, LittleBigCentralites! There is no Creator Spotlight this week, and we apologize for that. Instead, stay tuned for this important message...

Are you staying tuned?

Good! Here it is:

The Creator Spotlight Crew is hiring! Excited? Well, read further to see how you can be a part of our little team!

We are going to be taking applications for two positions: Video Editor and Video Recorder.

What should you include when you apply? That's mainly up to you - But please send some information about yourself, why you think you'd be perfect for the job and some samples of your recording or video editing work for review. We're looking for people mature, technically skilled, and asking themselves "Gee, what can I do to kill all this free time?" A great application is honest and will convince us of all three.

Position 1 - Video Editor - PM to Teebonesy (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?3340-Teebonesy) (or email remotemoonproductions@gmail.com if too long)
Okay, I'm not going to sugar coat this. If you want this job, these are some of the things you've got to seriously think about before applying. This is a list written up by Teebonesy, and he's been doing the video editing thus far so he is very understanding of our needs as far as this goes.

Passionate about video editing. You really have to WANT to do this, to spend a good deal of time putting together quality material, or you'll suffer through it!
Skilled in dealing with a variety of formats. You may be given different kinds of video and audio files encoded differently and have to deal with how to get them all to work together. This might involve a decent amount of compressing and converting. I have to emphasize this, because a great deal of my time was in fact spent not editing, but dealing with formats and converting and re-encoding video and audio files to be usable.
Experience publishing to youtube helps, but it's mostly a very simple process. However, we've dealt with a number of occasions in which the youtube upload fails, so some experience dealing with fixing these issues will definitely be a bonus.
A relatively fast internet connection to handle the uploading and downloading of large files.
Reliable to do a great deal of work on a regular basis for no compensation. This may sound insane, and it is. Which brings me to:
Must be insane. There is no monetary compensation! This is a service to the community, and your payment is only that it isn't a thankless task. Your videos will be seen and appreciated! Your wallet and free time will hate you.
Sound design can be a huge part of this, so an ability to find and mix together appropriate sound effects and public domain or creative commons music is a must. Again, a great deal of my time is not spent editing, but simply acquiring sound assets. I can put together a starter list of sites I use to find plenty of free sound effects and music.
Some very basic effects skills is a plus but not really necessary. Just a bit of creativity and outside-the-box thinking can go a long way - ie, implementing some basic animated effects like picture-in-picture, or shots blended in interesting ways, or cool titles.
Your own software! We do not supply any editing software, you're expected to have your own and know it well.
Ability to work fast, solve problems, and meet deadlines. A video goes up every 2 weeks, so you may find yourself working on this quite regularly over a long term, and you've got to be reliable to get it done. If you have much of a life and like to go out a lot, you may just find yourself regretting taking this on. It is a lot of work. We might be able to work out an alternating deal to keep the load lighter - I do one episode, you do the next, etc.
Must be able to output in High Definition and upload final HD videos to youtube.

Position 2 - Video Recorder - PM to jwwphotos (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?4559-jwwphotos) (or email remotemoonproductions@gmail.com if too long)
This position could be filled by one person or spread across a few people. We basically need someone to film level playthroughs and also do the Creator Closeups. These don't happen all the time, but they happen every once in a while. You basically go into create mode and film yourself speaking to the creator. Here are some requirements:

The videos have been in HD thus far, so it would be a requirement that you could capture and send video in High Definition.
- Must be responsible and mature - you will be hosting and being hosted by some of the greatest level creators around, and it's in the job description to see to it that there's enough good, usable footage to edit a feature. This might mean asking the creator to repeat him/herself over and over again, requesting to delete music boxes, etc., all while remaining polite and accommodating. It's okay if you're shy, but you may find yourself frequently operating outside of your comfort zone.
Must be able to work with people in the Eastern Standard Time Zone. We do most of our recordings/antics at 9PM EST until 11PM EST. This can be worked around if there is another time we can discuss, so don't let this deter you 100 percent from applying
Must know how to ftp a video to us, or whoever is editing the video.
Great internet connection and bandwidth. A lot of the files we deal with can take a long time to upload. If you have the sort of situation where you can set something to upload overnight without anyone getting too angry, then all is good!
Must be able to work in a timely manner. We have a two week deadline and publish every other Friday.
Must be able to record the creators talking in skype to be synced with the video later. We have tried every single other way of recording, and lbp voice chat is rubbish. This is the way we have chosen to go.

To everyone who applies for this: Please look over our past videos and see the sort of stuff that we do. If you think you could emulate that sort of style, then feel free to apply! ^__^

If you think you would be a great part of the team, then please send us your resume. If we get a few good ones, we can possibly bring more than one person on to share the workload. Good luck to everyone and we look forward hearing from you guys! ^__^

If you need any further information, please feel free to PM Teebonesy about the video editing, jwwphotos about the Video Recording. We will try to answer any question you have to the best of our abilities.

Also, we will return on the 16th with the next Creator Spotlight in our series, so please stay tuned!

Tsk-tsk... a missed deadline. Well it sounds completely understandable-- if only there were more of you who understood the importance and concept of team, well I'm sure it won't be a problem for much longer... here's hoping the responses are over-whelming and plentiful. Continued good luck spotlight team.2010-07-06 05:00:00

I could record some levels, but i have awful internet connection, so I wouldn't be great for doing creator closeups or anything with other people. xD So not great for this. We could definately make a trailer every fortnight though and stick it on Sackinima! That willl get it spread around a lot more. Yay us for free advertising! 2010-07-06 09:44:00

I'd SO go for video editing, but my computer with all my software in it is lost in some alleyway used to shelter a greedy hobo.
Good luck to those who apply!

I'd love to do the video editing (I have my own channel on YouTube and my editing software is Final Cut Pro) but I have school, and it sounds like a rather big commitment. Other than that, I think I meet all the requirements. Sorry, no real point for this post... Good lord, I'm handsome.2010-07-06 11:16:00

lol.. no! We are just branching out a bit. Actually we are multitasking so much that we are constantly tripping over wires, laptops and other stuff.

Well.. there is the problem because it needs to be hosted on RemoteMoonProduction. I already discussed this with Leather, but he felt he would have to give up on Sackinima to do this because of how much time we spend on these. ...and you really need a great internet connection to be able to upload the huge files that pile up from all the recording.

If you think you have even remotely what it takes and want to apply, please feel free. If someone is chosen, they wouldn't be doing all of these things alone. That's the purpose of this ad. We don't want that to happen again. Currently there are 3 of us. While we could have rushed through and made the deadline for this particular creator spotlight, we wanted to wait and make sure that it was as high quality as all of the other ones. That meant stopping, taking a breath, asking for some help and continuing forward.

There will be a spotlight on the 16th because it's 99 percent of the way finished. And there will continue to be more.

And if you guys do have any questions, Teebonesy and jww can def. answer them. ^_^

Send us your information ^_^ . I don't want to discourage anyone. jww's right, though, we would probably want to host it on the remotemoonproductions channel, but we could talk about may integrating a sackinima logo at the end or something if you were chosen to help out.

When you say video editing, do you mean you'll have to be able to create special effects? Such as stickers with text flying on screen and flapping around etc. or animation and stuff?

I can do stuff like cutting, re-aranging editing sound (I'm pretty good at the sound things...) stuff like that.

I own Adobe Premier Pro CS4 (And after effects CS4, but I have not yet learned how to use AE yet...) GarageBand (which is surprisingly good for music editing!) and iMovie!

This is my youtube channel. There are not many videos or much content because I have never been set a task or asked to do something, nor do I have a video recorder or capture card, so the content may be a bit lacking...

http://www.youtube.com/user/ApplePanda94

I would LOVE to take this opportunity, but I'm not sure if I'm good enough by your standards... Is there some kind of trail run you can do?

Also, I don't have a life. Well, I do... but most of it is spent on my laptop and LBPC anyways!! XD

I have a fast internet connection, willing to put in the hours and work my behind off on projects...

Oh, and I can do cool text effects and Picture in Picture (some text effects have been shown off in my channel introduction, which can be found on my youtube channel)

Hello creator spotlight crew. I would like to apply for the vids' editor "job". I know a lot how to edit videos i have a mac pro which is very fast and useful along all computer programs for edit like final cut pro, i also own a microphone so that i can make and record my own sounds for making the video better. By the way i love working in the computer so i think making this will be no problem for me. In case i make a video i will also be able to post it on you tube, with HD format and my computer it's fast enough for making anything like this.

Well, Dayne, have a look at our past creator spotlight videos at remotemoonproductions. That's pretty much what we're looking for. Someone who can take the footage that we provide and cut the stuff together. There's usually a funny bit at the beginning, funny bit at the end, and then the middle stuff. The middle stuff is either an interview with a creator or a video trailer of sorts.

In short, I think the stuff that you can do is the stuff we're looking for.

Anyway, I'll look over your stuff tonight when I get home, and I'm sure teebonesy and jww will also have a look! Thanks for the application!

Edit: Ferrch, do you have any samples of stuff you've done?

Yep, I'm able to do pretty much everything that was shown in Creator Spotlight 16 (that's the only one I checked) EXCEPT for the "creator spotlight" title, but I'd be happy to learn how to do that bit!!

When you said you helped your father, which bits did you do? cos that looks pretty cool!

EDIT: My dad is also pretty handy with video editing, so he can help me work after effects if you want me to!
He helped make this opening sequence, and actually did the logo solar flare at the end...

(I'm a bit of a photoshop geek too! Here's my photoshop portfolio http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2670531/DayneOram/Portfolio.html
I know how to make things in photoshop and add them into premier pro and after effects...)

I was only saying make a trailer for it. As in a simple thing telling people to watch your video. Maybe a clip from some of their levels and the name of the spotlighted creator. It wouldn't matter if this was done on time or anything really as it will always generate interest. Also, my upload speed is ok but my download speed is bad so I can't connect to people easily but i can upload stuff at a decent speed. (Im not, and never was, applying by the way. )

Even though I might not meet all requirements I still get angry over that all of the cool stuff (like this) happens when I am on vacation... Well, there is always another time I guess. Though I could have used my time to learn the skills I would need. Free time is probably what I have the most, so that would be no problem.

Good luck to the future member(s) of the creator spotlight, must the force be with you, or something in that manner.

Thanks for the applications so far! The tiny crew we have right now is just so busy all the time it's becoming nearly impossible to keep it going. We'll all still be here and working on it, but we're just not available to be putting in the type of work we have been until now.

I appreciate the honesty too - even if you'd love to do it, if you think it won't be possible, it's far better to be upfront about it, especially when it comes to time commitment. The most extreme case we've had, we had to transfer and cut over 3 hours of footage down into a single 10 minute show. Our current one doesn't have nearly that much footage, but on the other hand it's proven glitchy and unwieldy and difficult to deal with on a technical level, so that's something you've got to be able to handle - troubleshooting problems and finding how to fix technical issues.

Anyway, keep them coming! We appreciate hearing from anyone down to help out.

Anyways, I guess I will get to work on that template! Just make sure you let me know who the creator will be in advance so I can record stuff and make the titles.

That'd be fine by me! As long as you give me an idea (brief or detailed) on which parts you want to be included in the final cut!

Wha? For doing trailers? I think you missed a little tidbit in the conversation about moley working on separate trailers for the spotlight vids on sackinima - not the spotlight videos themselves!

Just so everyone knows as well, it's going to be a while before we know what the deal is going to be - we're taking a couple weeks break while we wait for all the applications to come in and talk it over. So don't worry if you really want it and don't hear anything for a while, it's only been a couple of days so far. We'll keep you guys in the loop!

As soon as possible as there have been quite a few that we have gotten that did not post on this thread. So if you wish to be considered it would be smart to do that sometime this week.

Thanks to everyone that has sent us resumes. We really appreciate the interest!

I have just figured out how to add the PSN name to the creator spotlight title thing. (where you see two eyes in the dark, the borders reveal the title "creator spotlight" and then they go further to reveal the background and username!)

Providing you have the video file without anybodies PSN on there... Which you obviously must have!

EDIT: Well, I can do the black text with ease... And though I can easily create the coloured text in photoshop, I still need to figure out a more practical way than the one I have in mind... If I don't, then fair enough, I'll use this method!

I heard Teeb had a basket of mice that did all that for him by accident. They came out after dark looking for scraps of cheese and crumbs of bread that fell into his keyboard. When he came back the next day.. ta-da!. Clean keyboard and a completed title scene from mice dancing all over the keyboard trying to get all the yummy bits out. 2010-07-12 14:16:00

Reminds me of when my cat jumped on the keyboard and managed to type a love heart next to my parents' names... We still don't know how he did it!! XD

Anyone with iMovie or a mac should enter this. All quality videos come from macs.

The problem with iMovie is that you are very limited to the themes set. You cannot manipulate video and photo objects at will, you can't make custom titles...

But for basic editing it's very handy!!

And, although I use a mac, not all quality videos come from macs!
They are typically known for producing industry standard media and videos etc. !

Mine has suddenly decided to go from lightening fast to excruciatingly slow. It's now on a medium level of speed, thanks to a few quick fixes I've found on the internet. I'm still working on getting all the kinks fixed!
