Of UFO's and Grappling hooks, (and/or any other cranes!)

Archive: 7 posts

I was thinking about a week back after watching one of geruvah's UFO-LBP2 vids, that I could make for some really cool gameplay if you made a UFO that some how contained a sackbot which was wired to the DCS to use his grappling hook to pick things up.

Now some people in rtm's features thread said you couldn't glue sackbots, but since they are similar to sackboy, I imagine you could somehow contain one to make good crane systems that could pick up grabable objects, though heavy ones might squish the sackbot.

This would be useful for all kinds of things I presume.

I had an idea when sackbots were first anounced about making a grappling cannon using a sackbot. The player would climb inside a small box ontop of the cannon and grab and hold to fire. The cannon would then launch a sackbot attached by winch to the box your sackboy was in. The sackbot would be programmed to have its grab function constantly on so when it came into contact with any grabbable material, it would hold on. After a delay, the winch would retract and the box (along with your sackboy) would be pulled towards the sackbot. Releasing your hold on the box would cause the winch to loosen and you could get out of the box.

thats a nice idea, having a strapped down sackboy slave with a grappling hook in a UFO... But wouldn't the sackboy try to grapple the closest grabbable object to him as the grappling hook has an automatic lock-on. So anything on the ship that was grabbale (even your sackboy?) could interfere.

Sackbots cannot be glued to things, so unfortunately, I don't think you could attach a winch to one.

The UFO would have to be made of non grabbale material, and I don't believe you can grab people on DCS's...

I got the idea that you aimed the grappling hook sort of like the paintinator, but it is more likely it auto-grabs. Either way, this is still possible.

They're vids from gevurah22. They showcase features and gameplay from the LBP@ demo at E3.
The ones he is talking about are a 2-part Simple UFO creation tutorial showcasing the controlinator and its features.
You can find em in a popular thread in the news section for lbp2.
