Isla MoyaVelcroJonze
A map, a boat, a long forgotten mysterious dark island, and the promise of riches and lurve.

Let the bubble hunt begin.
Inspired by Article 5 by spark151 and Black and White Planet by Jump_Button.

Thanks to both of those guy's, this level would not have been made without those beautiful levels for my inspiration.

The scoreboard is supposed to get destroyed and end the level but I'm not sure why you fell out. I am going to try a few things and maybe make a quick republish.

Thanks Bro!

@ Sketch, Thanks so much for pointing that out so quickly. That never happened to me in my play tests but I checked after you said that, and I noticed I only had one thick plane of glass. After popping the scoreboard brain you must have fell out through the front. I added another thick plane to the front so you should not fall out of the level now. If anything you will fall back in the level now.

Thanks again Buddy!!

Hey Buddy, I'll have to leave feedback later. I could have done it earlier, but I wanted to see if "The Last Airbender" movie was as good the series. So I'll play it a few minutes or so.

EDIT: I think I'll have to leave feedback much later than expected. My downloaded levels seems to be dissapearing.

Hey VJ

Alot of effort went into your latest, so I will not just do one of these type feedbacks:

" Dude, another new level from Velcro! You're the bomb! Hearted and stuff!"

I'll give you a nice big feedback that this level deserves! ( By the way, the comment wasn't aimed at any other feedbackers, it's just after days of toiling on a level, one wants to hear details about gameplay, artistic vision, etc. We already know we rock...

Anyway, onto business. I can tell you tried alot of different things with this level, while still trying to retain the Velcro feel of your past levels. I'm happy to report, mission accomplished! The intro was a surprise, a shock, even... a story narrative? You dabbled with it in Jimmy's room, but this is a full on adventure setup! It looked great, and set- the level nicely. The only thing is, I didn't feel like you followed through to the end. That is, there was no proper ending to the story. Did he find the girl, I dunno? That fact he found treasure was self explanatory. This is a very very minor gripe, but it would be nice to end a story more properly in your next. Now onto the look of the level... WOW, I'm so impressed! I knew you had an interior decorator hidden inside you, waiting to come out. You had everyone fooled with the 2 material look of the past, but not me. This is by far your best looking llevel hands down. The black and white is handled superb! Nuff said! And then the gameplay. Here's where your ol Velcro comes through in spades. You've always had clever gameplay down, so I was not even worried. Lots of levers and bubbles at work as per usual! I kinda got confused in the big room with the cogs, but I figured it out eventually. I guess, I didn't realize you could climb them. Well, that's it buddy, I hope this helped fuel your efforts . I just wanted to mention, that I'm also 20% into my next level and it's .... black and white too! Aaah, great minds think alike. But , It is way different in theme and a ways off. Can't wait to see what you think of my interpretation.
5 stars/hearted of course

Hello, VelcroJonze.

Your level was so excellent that I was surprised for a monochrome to be expressed well.
That it's PSP, such, it's difficult to make a shown stage.
But you made that, so it's wonderful.

Well, VJ, having played and loved both Black and White Planet and Article 5, I downloaded this level immediately. And I must say that this may be your best level yet! I loved the black and white look a lot, you really pulled it off well with your own unique style. I too experienced hitting the Scoreboard, then falling out of the level boundaries, but I may play it again as you seemed to have fixed it. Overall, this level has become one of my favorite PSP levels, and has gotten me to already be eagerly awaiting the release of another level from you. 2010-07-03 14:41:00

Hidy Ho VJ! I just wrote up a lot of feedback for you and my computer decided that you didn't need all that and deleted it all :-( I will try to cover it in less ground this time :-)

This level is outstanding. The visuals were great (LOVED the black and white aspect), it was great to have an actual story, the intro was cool, the bubble chains were perfect, and the platforming was the perfect VJ platforming that I love!

I would say that this is your best level by far :-) Awesome stuff.

I wanted to comment on the intro because I could not read it all because the text went by too quickly. When the first one disappeared before I could finish it I began reading them faster, but it was still a struggle to actually read them though and understand them before the next kicked in. I am a native English speaker and I struggled a bit, so I assume that there will be plenty of non-English speakers who will never be able to read that since it goes by so fast. I am sure that there are plenty of fast readers who can get it, but I would advise to slow it down a bit next time. That is the trouble with cut-scenes, it will always be too fast for some people or too slow for some people.

My other small issues involve my personal taste, so it's up to you how you should take them, but either way, this level is still incredible:

-There was a secret area where a bridge is extended but for some reason you allow the player to see the perm-switch tech. When I saw it at first I thought I had gotten outside the level, but then I decided that you meant for me to see it. I have no idea why you did this, because in my opinion it really draws away from your incredible scenery. I would expect that almost every author knows how a basic perm switch works, so why show it to us? Especially when it draws away from the incredible atmosphere that you have going. It's not a big deal, but it just didn't make sense to me since it drew away from the atmosphere for no apparent reason.

- That score board at the end was sort of interesting, but it just confused me more than anything. It is neat that you can end a level with a scoreboard that is killed, but it just didn't feel right to me for this level. You seem to have a serious tone going throughout the level (except for that perm-switch that I mentioned), and having a flying scoreboard that dies at the end just didn't fit the vibe. It's not a big deal, and it was interesting to see, but it just didn't feel right for this level. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree, but I figured that I would mention it :-)

Awesome work with another incredible level to add to your portfolio. You are making it harder and harder for me to win this war against you

Hey man! Great level youve made here! I really enjoyed playing through it and everything. I thought that it had just a little bit of a puzzle element to it with the section that had the two big gears and I thought that was great fun figuring out what to do.

I gave you five stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3. Great job man! Keep up the good work!

Hey VelcroJonze! I just played your level, and I must say you out did yourself! I never new black and white was a good combo for you, but you certainly proved me wrong.

So, the review. Let's go back in time when CyberSora was playing your level and was coming up with the review in the same time (yay multitasking!).

*Doo-doo-doo-doo... doo-doo-doo-doo....*

20 Minutes Back In Time

YESH! DA NEW LVL IS OUT!

2 Minutes Later

YESH! I HAVE THE LVL LOADING! WHOO!!!

38 Seconds Later

Who the heck is that?

*Opens door. Three men stand at the door in uniforms.*

We're the Grammar Police, and you're going to be given a warning.

Wait, what!? Grammar police? Why're you guys here?

You've broken several grammar rules, one which involves you forgetting to capitalize the "p" in "Police".

It was just a joke! And a "p"? P.... Wait! That just happened now!

Exactly. Now, how are you going to be paying us? Cash or credit?

Oh right, credit I gue- Hey, wait a minute. There is no Grammar Police! That's just some nerd thing on the Internet!

Well, um... you see....

3 Minutes Later

*Kicks one man out. Others run towards him and pick him up. They run off.*

And stay the out! Stupid grammar nerds! Me no stupid!

[B]8 Seconds Later

At least that fight loaded the level for me. Although, by the looks of the boat's position and angle it is in, I'd say it was already ready since 7 minutes ago.

*Restarts level.*

I like the beginning, but the problem I'm having are the speech bubbles. I pass through them to fast. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a fast reader, but the level itself caught me by surprise when I found out I had to read! As soon as I caught on with the program, the first speech went away. Sigh.... (Maybe if you made it so the Magic Mouths pass slower, it'll be more easier for the player(s) to read at their own pace, instead of rushing through the whole speech without taking it in.)

*Restarts level again.*

Yada-yada-yada... done! Okay, the scenery looks awesome! I'm loving the boat ride, with it's relaxing- OUCH! Whoa, it stopped already? Okay, I guess.

So far, I like the entrance to the cave (if that's what it is). So right now I'm entering the cave and, ooh, ninja star shaped... things! Kind of easy to pass though. I hope that's not the hardest part.

Okay, so now I'm at the area where you pull the switch and an emitter emits another thick layer hill/mountain/floor/etc.. And I'm jumping. And I'm grabbing. And I'm done! Oh noes, I fell through the whole! Now how am I going to get that score bubbles on the top right corner! D:

Sigh...

Now I'm at the "Follow the lurve." part. I'm hopping my way to victory! And... yes! I got the bottom corner love! Wait, that came out wrong.

Anyways, something about not lurve on the right? Hmm... must... resist... jumping....

*Dies jumping into the no lurve sea.*

Ouch. Well, I'm at the top part now. So first, I go left. I go further left. Now there's a... hey, the area I saw last time! Woo hoo! Now I can get that score bubble! Oh wait, spikes. Okay, I'm going to summon all my stealth and skills to get across this. Here we go. (Fastbro, here we go! Here we go, here we go! Fastbro, here we go! Here we go, Fastbro! )

Made it! Ooh, and some more love from the lurve! Awesome. So, advancing right, pulling switches, etc.. Now I'm at the bridge. And oh, what's this? The Jonze thought he can hide this lurve from me? Well think again! Im-ma jump onto the top thick layer and steal-a your coinz now!

*Mario-jumps onto the platform and takes the bubbles. Now returns back to bridge.*

Now that was fast. Okay, so the bridge. No problem on that, but there's an arrow on the second plank. Must... jump.... [BEEP]! I missed! Now how am I going to get those last score bubbles? Ugh... well, I'm over the wall at least. Now I'm just going to fall dow- wait a minute... a wall! Must... resist... climbing... wall.... What the? A secret area!? Awesome! But the switch? Eh, I take it you got lazy here. Okay, whatever.

*Grabs points from Sticker Switch, then heads out. Still wondering why a blue swirly sticker would be used in the black and white world. Leaves.*

Alright, so there's a few more points. I grab them. And... I'm flying. End of the level- wait, the scoreboard blew up. And I'm falling down. AND I'm going to die if I don't press conti- [BEEP] I died! Dumb glass.

But then again, highscore! Yay!

*Doo-doo-doo-doo... doo-doo-doo-doo....*

Well, that's it! Overall, I got the highscore on m first try (woo!) and I thought this was truly your best work. I never thought you were a storyline type person, but once again you proved me wrong. The only problems I faced were:

The speech bubbles flew by too quickly!
The whole "right has no lurve" thing was a bit "dull", really. But that's just my view of the level.
The score bubbles at the first bridge are impossible to get, but that's just a minor thing. No worries.
The switch mechanism is visible when you climb the wall/mountain/hill. I know you did this on porpuse (I think), but it takes away from the atmosphere. In other words, "Dat hippidy hop gizmo no work with jungle look!"
The ending was good. It left that "To be continued..." feeling, rather than seeing the highscores and think "It's over." But, that's the thing, it doesn't say "To be continued...". Instead, all I'm seeing is my Sackboy slide back down. Maybe if you had some type of emitter to keep him/her from sliding back down, it'll let the player leave with a black screen, thus that "What happens next!?" reaction.

That's all just my point of view. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3! Excellent job!

Peace

Alright Velcro I played your level....and this is one of my favorites.

Everything was great, it still had the VJ feel to it, but yet it felt different. I went on to start the level, and I quickly knew that I had to get all the bubbles. I must say that I think that your awesome sticker work took most of the thermo up, because the level did feel short. There was lurve <3 everywhere and when I followed it it lead me to bubble heaven! It was awesome that there were a bunch of hidden bubbles and bubble showers as well. There was that group of bubbles that was impossible to get, it was the one at the bridge that launches you to the other side. I laughed at that though. Because when I was about to get the bubbles, I was surprised by the launcher. I was like NOO!!.

There was this hidden launcher that launched me straight to the scoreboard, and that prevented me from getting all the other hidden bubbles I didn't get yet. So I played the level once again. I made sure to go to that launcher last. I think I found every hidden bubble and bubble showers. On my first try I got #1 with over 10,000, but I was like "Wait, I know I could do better." So I played through it again, and again, and again. I still kept getting a little over 10,000, but all along there was that one 2 way switch I didn't see, that opened a hidden bubble shower.

So I ended my level crusade with a score of 12,000. Then, I gave you your always deserved :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3.

Thanks so much for all of your awesome feedback guy's!!

Cyber Sora, you are truly one of a kind my friend.

I have ran into a bit of a problem at my house today and it has prevented me from monitoring my thread like I wanted too.

However, I have thanked everyone that left feedback and I promise to thank you all individually tomorrow, because you all deserve that.

Thanks so much, this community is the best!!!!

Gah, still no working internets. And to add insult to injury, Sora's epic story has the Fastbro theme stuck in my head. Grrrreat.

So, advanced feedback!

Holy crap, this level was amazing! Everything looked so great, and the play mechanics were a blast! Can't wait to see what's next, five stars and a heart!
Time to get out the rip-off notebook!

Pretty accurate, huh?

VelcroJonze, you have amazed me with this level.
I tried to be one of the first to give feedback, but I was busy.
I did get to play the level the day it came out though.
Well, the good thing is that I'm here now.

Anyways, before I start, I want to say thanks for the shout out.
I also wanted to ask if jump_button knows about your inspiration.
If you haven't, then you should comment on his profile!

Time to start. First off, I am deeply impressed impressed with the bubble collecting intro type of story. First off, the length is not short nor long. It's a very decent length. The length last longer if you are locating every score bubble, which I did. The fun is never ending when you play this.

The Materials were very spot on! I was deeply impressed! I liked the stickers and corner editing. In this level, not only you relied on stickers, but corner editing too. You made the environment look colorful, but it was mainly black and white. You're wondering how is it colorful. Everything look so well that I could have replaced it with colors. It's like I could almost see the colored version of this level.

This level was different than others.
New obstacles, new colors, and most important, a new adventure.
I didn't get a highscore. I was more impressed to explore rather than getting a highscore.
I only had one problem with the level and thats the fact that the intro was fast. Of coarse I read fast enough, but this will be a problem for others. Anyways, I'm done here I think.
I'll give you your rating to this level!

Length: 5/5 (The fun last when you're bubble hunting)
Material Usage: 5/5 (The materials melted with the stickers)
Sticker Work: 5/5 (The stickers helped within the corner editing)
Corner Editing: 5/5 (This gave the level a live feeling)
Terrain/Mechanics 5/5 (Landscape was good and so wer your platforming mechanisms)
Story 5/5 (Your bubble hunting adventure has a fun little story built)

Total: 30/30 Petfect Score!
Anyways, I have not much to add.
I gave you 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart <3
Anyways, I'm out!

Until we see each other again,

Awesome sauce VJ! I really like this new style you have going on, and I had a blast playing is level. The black and white theme is very cool, and he touches of humor here and there are refreshing without being silly. The "follow the lurve" mechanic works great and I really enjoyed chasing down all those hidden point bubbles. You're a master of the bubble combo challenge!

The different gameplay elements felt both familiar and fresh at the same time, and working my way through the intertwining maze-like setting had me on my toes the whole time. You stepped up your visual game here for sure, and even added a bit of a story to boot. Really cool stuff. Like others have mentioned, I didn't really get the dying scoreboard at the end but it is an interesting way to end the level.

5 stars and a heart!

Hi Velcro!
I dont have much to add. Everything has been said.
So i just repeat that your new level really looks awesome! I think you evolved again and you are going in the right direction. I also was a little bit confused about the ending and i had the feeling i missed something. besides that i had no problems!

great stuff!

-Sigh. Lost this halfway through my rant. Stupid browser.-

Well, I finally got to play this late last night. Let me warn you, what you're about to see is quite the critique-fest, but by no means did I not like the level in general terms. Yes, I hated it for a Jonze level, but to hate one of your levels still equates to five stars.
So don't worry, this was still good level. I just want to have my chance to speak on the idea of moving to open-world platformers. I'm not what you would call a fan.

When Sugar Roots came out, I was a little worried. I didn't like what I saw of the 'choose your path' gameplay. Jimmy's Room was another step forward, and a huge relief. Jimmy's Room was the highlight of your levels to me, and I hoped to see more. Instead, I get to explore a deserted island. =/

I started of my trip to Isle Moya with extremely high hopes. I didn't mind the speech bubbles, so I fully enjoyed the introduction. After that, it was all downhill from there. The part with the bouncing circles sums the level up - confusing and unexciting. Like I said, still a great level, but take a step back towards Jimmy's Room next.

Five stars and a heart.

Hiya VelcroJonze-

You've done it again! I loved it like all of your others, it has your classic feel as always. I've played Article Five and Black and White Planet, and I think you've a great job just like they did! Just like your previous, this one felt a bit different than what you usually do, this one had more of a story to me, and you added light but yet extremely amusing humor (it was to me, I laughed a lot). Following the lurve through the level was a blast for me. My favorite thing about the level was the stickering, clever use of the black and white stickers, and I thought it was cool how you used some of LBP PSP's disadvantages to your advantage, what do I mean by that you ask, I'm talking about how you put solid black stickers over a white material, but on LBP PSP, it always shows the outer edge of a material, thus giving the perfect black and white look! Of course, this level had some of the best corner editing ever, and like others, I was a bit confused by killing the scoreboard at the end, but I still think that is an ingenious idea, seriously, I've never played a single level (PS3 or PSP) that uses that concept, so props to that. There's only one thing that really bothered me about the level (and it doesn't really matter, it's a very tiny thing, but I thought that I might as welll go ahead and point it out), I didn't like how the gas in the level was blue, but that's just me. Other than that, you have done a spectacular job with this level. Stupendous job my friend!

I rated the level :star::star::star::star::star:, and gave the level a <3.

Okay, I am sorry i have not responded to this thread but here I am to make things right. It seems like I just published this and I have had so much response mostly good. The bad is good too though. I love getting feedback from all of you even if there are things not to your liking. If everyone came here and gave me praise that would be pretty boring, right? Not that I am not liking the praise..... I love it!!

Okay let's go ............

@ Kaiju - Thanks so much for playing it and hearting too! I can always count on honest feedback from you, so when you give me praise it just Rocks!! I can see that the cogs could be confusing, I almost put a big R on them but decided against it for cosmetic reasons. I hope people will figure they are to be grabbed.

I can't wait to play your B&W level.

@ Ali - Thanks for the heart my friend. They are always welcome!!

@ Himoks - Thanks for playing my new level my friend, I can always count on you for a play and some feedback. Thanks!!

@ Honza - Wow! Thanks!! I am glad you liked my new level. I like your new level too!!

@ hphzq - Thanks for the compliment!! Making a B&W level was harder than I thought. But in the end it was worth every minute. Thanks again!!

@ RJA00000 - Thanks for the kind words my friend. I am glad you enjoyed it, I hope you have played the updated version with the extra layer added to nullify the falling out the level problem. Thanks again.

@ Poo - Thanks for playing my new level!! There are things that I put in my levels at the last minute that I regret sometimes. That magnet key is one of them now. I did that just because I figured there might be someone out there who wanted to see how it was done, but I have had a few comments on it and I wish I had left it out now. I think it takes away from the atmosphere now too. Man, I wish we could make updates on our published levels without resetting everything. Oh, well maybe in the next patch. The text at the beginning is another. I should have slowed it down more. To be honest, I thought it was a perfect speed, but now I realize not everyone is a native English speaker..... Duh!! Oh well, I guess that is what I get for not letting people play test my level. That scoreboard...... hmmmm, that too was something that I put in on the last day for some odd reason. I had an entire other ending planned but I thought it would not be epic. Not that killing the scoreboard is epic, but it sure is different. The first night I published, I wish I had not did it, but now I like it. You got to admit, it's not something you see everyday.

Thanks again for you honest feedback my friend. Stay awesome!!

Okay, more tomorrow guy's!!

I just wanted to return to say not to tear yourself up about that switch or the scoreboard. Both are not big issues, and some players will probably really like to see them. I always hate to have something about a level that I wish wasn't there but not be willing to republish to change it. Don't let this tear you down because this is an incredible level!

As for the scoreboard, it is very unique and I enjoyed the unique aspect, but it also confused the heck out of me, and it just made the level feel like it ended super abruptly. It is a very fun idea though, and I don't think that it really takes away from the level. I just wanted to mention my confusion since I like to include any feeling positive or negative in my feedback.

This was an incredible level! B3 and I differ a lot in our tastes in levels, and it really shines through here. I felt that this blew anything else that you have ever made out of the water, and I really liked to see you exploring new ways to build a level. Though it is always good to play to your strengths, it is also good to have variety because you want to have your levels feel different in both the way they play and the way they look or people will eventually get tired of them (well... most people). Awesome work!

Hi, VelcroJonze! I was really impressed after playing your level. You did big improve in level design, materials using and stickering! And you add your well-tried level mechanics for perfect flow. I love many places on this level - small caves, material shapes, some moving objects. You created very beautiful level and very interesting adventure. Thank you for that. I gave you 5/1 (5 stars and 1 heart) for it, of course.

BTW, I easily read all messages at the beginning, it was not big speed for me .

Thanks to Domik12, you are now immortalized.

Fifty years from now when looking through my old lbp levels, I will see that, and think of you. Then most likely go for a round of Sackboy Plays LBP PSP!

Hey VJ,

Congratulations on the Community Spotlight! Now this is what I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong, I love your classic, streamlined style, but I also expect creators to try new things once in a while and grow as they learn from feedback and from playing others levels. So I was extremely happy to see that you played around with stickers, and the environment you created was romantically mystical. Great job VJ, and I look forward to seeing you experiment with more stuff!

The thing that is great about your levels is that the play so well no story is needed but the poetic intro was welcome change and added to the atmosphere. Your artist style is great and a pleasure to look at. I loved your choice of black and white it compliments the mood set by your intro.

As always the gameplay flowed perfectly as I made my way through the clever design. The layout was open and I had fun exploring to find all the hidden bubbles. Having the some what hidden option to go back to an early point of the level at the end was awesome. It is so much better than re-playing to get what you missed.

Another brilliant level from VJ! It also shows your growth as a creator, because you added dramatic elements so seamlessly without sacrificing your patented fun to play mechanics. I?m really looking forward to what you come up with next.

5 Stars and a heart!
