Controlling a Piston's speed and when it fires help.
Archive: 5 posts
I am making a level and I want the player to control the speed at which the piston fires and when the piston actually fires. So my thinking is that it is two inputs, two separate functions, one mechanism. Any idea on how I can accomplish this? | 2010-07-02 21:01:00 Author: Spy_Guy Posts: 4 |
Well, if you use a magnetic key attached to the piston, you can change the speed of another object by placing a magnetic key switch a certain distance from the key. Using this method also can make the object stop moving entirely if you move the key out of the switch's range. Then you can use a 3-way switch to move the piston the way you want it. | 2010-07-02 23:41:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
Mag Key and a winch methinks the Magkey controls the speed but the winch holds it back. | 2010-07-02 23:43:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
Winches sounds like the best option. Depending on what you wish to achieve with this, a flipper winch could be the ticket to success. Use the piston to set the distance and then trigger the flipper winch to "fire". Using this method the distance the piston moves will indicate the speed of firing, due to the flipper action of the winch. | 2010-07-02 23:58:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

I'm finding it hard to wrap my brain around what you are saying, but I am trying to make a variable power launcher with a piston where the player can control the projectile speed. | 2010-07-03 18:24:00 Author: Spy_Guy Posts: 4 |
