Avalanche! (Survival Challenge)robbit10
http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/9820/avalancheactionphoto.jpgA survival challenge in which you have to dodge snow balls to stay alive.
robbit10 and HellHound2255 present:
Avalanche!

Avalanche! is a Survival Challenge in which you have to stay alive by dodging snowballs. You can also play it competitively by trying to beat your friends' high-scores.

Features:

A start screen
Rolling snowballs
Quakes
Automatic score-increaser while you're playing
Sound effects on everything

You can calculate how many seconds you survived, by dividing the score you got by 50. For example, if I had 3220 points, I would calculate the seconds I survived like this:
3220/50=46 seconds
This adds another competitive edge to the level. Can you survive longer than your friend?
(The reason why this works is because you get 50 points every second.)

As always, feedback is very welcome. If you have any comments or suggestions, then don't hestitate to tell me.

Okay, i'll play your level tomorrow and give you feedback. Will you do it on mine too?

@iGotFancyPants: Thanks for the feedback in LBP. But could you write a review that's a bit more extended here on LBPCentral, please?

@iGotFancyPants: Thanks for the feedback in LBP. But could you write a review that's a bit more extended here on LBPCentral, please?

Sure.

Visually, the level had a very smooth feel, distinct to itself and an 'avalanche-like' setting. My only gripe visually could be the lack of fog. The problem that arises from this is when you did add fog the background was no longer visible. I think I've found a way around this; simply move the background mountains closer to the playing field, increasing their chances of being seen while fog still lingers out and about.

Gameplay wise, this level is pretty darn awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed dying... I mean OWNING the high scores (although that didn't really happen.lol.) No gripes for gameplay.

Sounds... I enjoyed most of them and thought they all fit well except those darn broken glass sounds! At least you fixed that while we were in-game together

That is all. Nice job here.

@Arnaldo17: Sorry, but i haven't gotten around to your F4F yet. And i'm going on vacation pretty soon, so i don't think I will. However, if I get time to play LBP, i might still visit your level and write a review

EDIT: F4F'ed you (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=29356-Sackboy-And-The-Demantoid-Crystal-%28part1-2%29&p=516896&viewfull=1#post516896)

@iGotFancyPants: Thanks for the review! And, the broken glass sounds are still there, but I thought they sounded good - as if the snowballs are breaking through houses on the top of the mountain... Perhaps I should add a little breaking-glass effect to that (As in, when the breaking glass sounds, you see glass breaking at the top of the mountain and falling into your direction.)

Bumping my thread because i want more plays and reviews.

This looks like a fun survival challenge. I'll try it later today or tomorrow and tell you what I think .

Edit: I just played it and here's what I think.

Positives
------------
1. Awesome Intro with nice lightning and shake effect and nice font.
2. Great use of gameplay like Dodge those Iceballs
3. Very addictive and I had to give it a play, nine times!

Negatives
-------------
None!

This is a great survival challenge and I wish there were more survival challenges like this one. Overall, I gave it
:star::star::star::star::star: and a big red <3

Great level!
This is what I wanted out of dodge those iceballs... (no offense ventuz, if you're out there...)

I love the little arcade style opening, and I liked how the snowballs pushed you off, instead of killing you instantly.

I can see this being a great multiplayer game! (Imagine 4 players: The four make it past 2000 with ease. Player 2 gets impatient and slaps Players 3 off the edge, but then gets pushed off himself by a snowball. at about 4000, Player4 gets sent backwards and decides to take Player 1 with him. They both plunge to their deaths. They emerge from the spawn, all slightly angry but thrilled.)

5 stars and a heart for the level and player.

I hope to see more from you.

Thanks, dragonvarsity and Eonknight, for the reviews and the compliments You said that it's what you wanted out of Dodge those Iceballs? That's a big compliment, since that's a Media Molecule-recommended level. Thanks!

About the multiplayer story.. things like that happened a few times while i was playing Avalanche with a few PSN friends

HellHound2255 should get credit too. He corner-edited everything to make it look that much nicer, and he's the one that made the font that says "Avalanche!". The rest is my work: The whole level was my idea, the gameplay is my work, the animated intro is my work, the snowballs are my work, the gameplay is my work, the sounds are my work, the musics are my work, etc.

I just played your level and let me tell you it was really cool. The survival challenge it was really challenging your level reminded me of a similar survival challenge called doge those ice balls it was really cool. The way you move the camera everytime more ice balls are coming was really good and it gets ore challenging over time.

Overall score.

Thanks Sabre_. You should know that there are tons of other types of survivals out there - not just bomb survivals, they just happen to be the most popular survival and are crowding a lot of pages in LBP. But just search on LBPCentral, or try a different key word (minigame) in your LBP search, and you'll find good survivals.2010-07-18 07:21:00
