Sackboy speed tweaks!
Archive: 13 posts
Wouldn't it be cool if we could tweak sackboy's walking speed from turtle to cheeta?! discuss EDIT: maybe change the speed by a checkpoint. if one sackperson walks by a checkpoint his speed would change but not others until they have walked by the check point. EDIT2: Checkpoints? What was I thinking! What about a global sackperson switch? | 2010-06-30 07:04:00 Author: CheesyDemon Posts: 170 |
You can do that. Controlinated Sackbot what matches the player's costume, then tweak the Sackbot's movement speed. Keep all other controls the same. That said, you're right, it would be nice to have some way to directly control a player's speed, but this way works fine for the most part, and allows for even more interesting things. | 2010-06-30 07:12:00 Author: Vertrucio Posts: 119 |
no i meant sackboy not you sitting in a control seat controlling a sackbot. | 2010-06-30 07:12:00 Author: CheesyDemon Posts: 170 |
We know what you mean, and Sackbotz can do it. No other way to do it (currently). | 2010-06-30 11:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
If you're your Sackboy, you move like Sackboy. But I am glad the Direct Control Seat doesn't have to be attached to the Sackbot like in the E3 trailer. | 2010-06-30 11:49:00 Author: estevangz Posts: 57 |
Just make a sackbot and alter the speed then control it. | 2010-06-30 15:36:00 Author: Unknown User |
We know what you mean, and Sackbotz can do it. No other way to do it (currently). I think the gravity Glitch works like that. Search Odd Gravity 1 or 2, There really quite fun. | 2010-06-30 19:13:00 Author: DaSackBoy Posts: 606 |
is this not the speculation and suggestions section? can I not suggest a feature that would be a choice for weather to yay or nay to the said suggestion. instaed you sackpeople are responding to me with a known way to do so. I added sopmething to the top. | 2010-06-30 21:07:00 Author: CheesyDemon Posts: 170 |
You can change the speed and behavior of a Sackbot with switches and logic. | 2010-06-30 21:32:00 Author: Tyler Posts: 663 |
Yea, and we say nay. If it can be done, why have a whole seperate feature for it? Also, checkpoint??? Why did you choose a checkpoint as an ideal item to speed up a sackboy? If ANYTHING, it should be made into a power-up, and, like I said, there's still no reason to have it as a seperate feature. EDIT: Sniped? I think? | 2010-06-30 21:34:00 Author: Prince Pixelton Posts: 286 |
fine, whatever | 2010-06-30 21:54:00 Author: CheesyDemon Posts: 170 |
I actually think having tweak settings directly on a player sackboy (well actually in a level's core properties) is a good idea. However MM has already gone on record stating that, essentially, they're not implementing that due to backwards compatibility with LBP1 or something. I'm not sure how such LBP2 settings could hurt LBP1 levels when loaded in, but I'll take their word on it since they know how their own software works. It also raises the issue of non-standard sackboys, where each level arbitrarily has sackboy running and jumping at different speeds. One of the reason Mario games work is that Mario's speed and jumping is very consistent, even though multiple games. After a player gets trained to have sackboy move in a specific way, jumping online and having sackboy suddenly act differently is counter productive. And it's not just the extreme differences in movement, someone might make sackboy just slightly slower and slightly higher jump, that will throw off players even more than if they had made sackboy move twice as fast and jump twice as high, because all of a sudden gaps you thought you could jump over, you couldn't, and high platforms that look like they can't be jumped to, all of a sudden could be jumped to. So, MM chose to let the players use sackbots instead of directly modifying sockboy himself, and then allowed for the option to make sackbots look exactly like their controlling player. It doesn't prevent confusion entirely, but allows for the illusion of changes to sackboy in many ways, while still providing some cues to the player that things are different. | 2010-07-01 02:05:00 Author: Vertrucio Posts: 119 |
Ok thank you very much for that well written and factual post stating why they would not use it. It just dosent make sense to me because if you are able to emulate sackboyb With a sackbot why would you not be able to tweak the actual sackperson? It would use less logic and I think would make easy comlicated sackbot logic. EDIT: Do not take me for someone of low intelect my fellow sackpeople. I know quite well what can be done with sackbots as of information relesed so far. In my opinion a switch from formula 1 to snail could be a great tool that could be used frequently. | 2010-07-01 05:36:00 Author: CheesyDemon Posts: 170 |
