Banjo-Kazooie

So I generally try my best NOT to leach off an established series of games to create levels after, however I've noticed a lack of decent Banjo-Kazooie levels in LBP1. So I'm going to make it my LBP2 mission to re-create all the areas of both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie in LittleBigPlanet 2. With the announcement of the music objects being able to be heard throughout entire levels, I will also be adding custom music to each level (music that I'm working on right now). So I want to know how many of you even KNOW of the awesome series created by Rare (originally for Nintendo 64, later transferred over to Xbox Live Arcade when Microsoft bought Rare out). I have a rather unhealthy obsession with this game, and I'm so sad to see that most the developers of these two games have left Rare, and then they pass Nuts and Bolts off as Banjo-Kazooie 3 (believe me, I like Nuts and Bolts, it's just not Banjo). Regardless, I plan to recreate this amazing franchise to the best of my ability and hope that others become excited as well, even if you're not a Banjo fanatic like myself. So, do you all think I should go through and make the entire series? (Given I have the moon space to do it in LBP2) If you are interested in assisting with this project, I have only have a few, reasonable requirements: 1. You're a hard worker and know enough about working in LBP to create good stuff (good as judged by me...I'm sure just about anything is passing. lol I'm easy). 2. You're a huge fan of the Banjo-Kazooie series and know just about everything about it. ;D Otherwise, why would you join? xD It IS going to be a replica. Specs Custom music will be provided for each level. In the actual Banjo games, the music changes depending on where you are within the level. I have a few ideas on how to have the music change within LBP depending on which area you are in within the levels. However, I do not know how many new music sound objects there are. I'm hoping for harmonica, as well as a banjo the most, along with some other things like saxophone. Sackbots will most likely be used to emulate Banjo and Kazooie, not really sure how I'm going to go about making the controls for the moves (or how I'll even make the moves possible, especially that Talon Trot). Perhaps I can make an AND switch within the sackbots circuit board that requires R2 as an input for other moves as well. Kind of like how on the Xbox version of BK, Talon Trot is RT (this causes Banjo to lay really low to the ground) and then LT to have Kazooie pop out and run around instead. All "humanoid" characters will be created using Sackbots. I may need help creating costumes as that's not really my forte. PM/VM me if you're interested. More coming soon. | 2010-06-29 05:42:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
You could use a sackbot as Banjo, have him wearing a backpack of some sort (eiher the deco or whatever) and have the buttons do things like emit a Kazooie sackboy (it grabs onto you and has an anti-grav thing on it)? Wouldn't be too hard in that part. Unless the Kazooie Sackboy misses the grab. D: Or if you can't make it auto-grab. | 2010-06-29 06:14:00 Author: RobotCrash Posts: 121 |
Yeah, I was thinking sackbots for Banjo and Kazooie, since their moves are a rather large part of the game (otherwise Bottles and Jamjar would be pretty useless, am I right? xD) Thanks for the feedback. ;D I also be updating the OP periodically with "Specs" of what I plan to do as ideas come to me. | 2010-06-29 06:19:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie are two of my favorite games of all time. And I agree, LBP needs more B-K goodness! | 2010-06-29 19:18:00 Author: Tyler Posts: 663 |
HEY that's what I was gonna do!!!!! I love banjo kazooie and banjo tooie. | 2010-06-29 19:36:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
Yeah, the nostalgia that pairs along with this game is fantastic, and I've played a few LBP BK levels. They're decent I guess, and the farthest I've really ever seen one get is just to Grunty's Lair after the Spiral Mountain "intro". So I'm hoping to stick with this project when LBP2 comes out and I'll probably end up needing help and all since it will be a HUGE undertaking. I'm doing all the music I can get right now in LBP1 so that when 2 comes around, I can pretty much just throw in the new instruments and be done. Timing is the toughest thing with BK music since most the songs tend to have notes that like to be in triplets...very hard to time with a grid. xD I got Glitter Gulch Mines' music coming along very nicely though. I also have the jingle that plays when Banjo loses a life in the game as well. | 2010-06-29 21:04:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
OMG. I loved Banjo-Kazooie for the N64. I'm def. keeping an eye on this. (: | 2010-07-01 10:20:00 Author: Mastadom Posts: 195 |
Thanks. ;D I've managed to transfer all of Glitter Gulch Mines' sheet music I found into LBP, and now there's a small portion I'm going to have to figure out on my own because the sheet music lacks it. Once that's up, I'm going to decorate the level so that people will enjoy the music level. Afterward, I'm going to start another song. I don't know which song though: 1) Isle O' Hags (I really love this song. xD) 2) Spiral Mountain (seeing as how it'll probably be the first song to appear in the series) 3) Grunty's Lair 4) All the random tunes that play when you get jiggies, game over, ect. Since they're short, I'll include them all in one. xD So vote if you care! Also, if you don't remember/recognize a song, look it up on youtube. I'll be adding youtube links in a bit, but I'm a bit busy as of right now. | 2010-07-01 18:48:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
Good luck man. Banjo kazooie roxed my socks off when I was younger. I actually played it just the other day and the file was still there. I was embarrassed to find that i had 30 jiggies with 62 hours of gameplay xD lol | 2010-07-01 18:51:00 Author: SupaSack34 Posts: 180 |

Oh, no. I'm making the music in LBP1. Once LBP2 comes out, I'll probably have the majority of the music done. I've found the most difficult portion of music level making is the timing of the notes and Banjo-Kazooie music is extremely difficult when it comes to timing (seeing as how I work on a grid). I'm hoping LBP2 has more instruments to use so that I can just add them in over the piano I currently have. Donkey Kong was also great. You gotta love Rare. :3 At least...you had to. Now they're making Kinect Sports.... D: | 2010-07-01 19:55:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
oh come on kinect sports might not be that bad. | 2010-07-01 20:40:00 Author: supersonic56 Posts: 287 |
Well I never said it was. lol It's just showing that Microsoft has moved that company away from what they're known for and it makes me sad to see such a thing happen. I just want another Banjo more than anything in the world right now. xD Hopefully they'll see that a lot of other people do as well. Also, add Freezeezy Peak to to the list of songs that I should do next. I really love that one too, and I'd like to get such a challenging song out of the way early on (since its timing is whack). | 2010-07-01 21:01:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
funny I had the same idea to make this game | 2010-12-26 22:30:00 Author: Unknown User |
Seems like a good idea, but how are you going to make it so Banjo swims? I read that sackbots die when they hit water. I could help, but not too much. What I was thinking is that you could ask me to go to your pod whenever you need my help making logic. Other than that, good luck! | 2010-12-27 15:14:00 Author: Tomeh999 Posts: 763 |
dude i heard the music youve made for this in your level on the beta, well done its soo good!! also i believe that in the music featurette they showed that you could add wires into pieces of the sequence, so in this way you could make bits of a song drop in and out depending on where you are (although if this is the case i dont know why they havent shown us this in the beta :/) anyway well done so far and i hope to play these levels when they are done | 2010-12-27 16:13:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
Glad you like the music Skalio. Really appreciate the comments. xD A bit odd for this thread to be resurrected, but whatever. It's still an on-going project. @Tomeh: I actually haven't thought about that. :x I seem to have overlooked the fact that sackbots can't swim. >.< Hopefully they'll update it sometime where user controlled sackbots can swim because I believe the reason they can't is because it would be impossible to program AI to legitimately swim. Well, near impossible. I'm glad you brought that up though. Makes me wonder how I'm going to do stuff now... | 2010-12-27 18:31:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
Don't give up hope Aero. If you have to, then you can use glass as water, and a rotator plus mover to make it swim. | 2010-12-27 22:27:00 Author: Tomeh999 Posts: 763 |
Gross. xD That's such a bad way of fixing it. Hmmm...I think I'll just build with the water for now, just make it impossible to get whatever is beneath. And then hopefully they add a way for sackbots to venture through water with future DLC. Then I can continue. :x I'll just start with music and recreating scenes. Then hopefully by the time I get far into that, or finish it, whatever, they'll release waterproof sackbots. | 2010-12-27 22:42:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
Would it work if you used a Material Tweaker and made the Sackbot indestructable? | 2010-12-27 23:14:00 Author: Tomeh999 Posts: 763 |
Or, you can use pieces of blue hologram set to be emitted with the fade effect and destroyed with the splat effect, being emitted rapidly with a .1 second life time, so it appears as water. You can use this in conjunction with movers, gravity switches, and rotators on a sackbot while in the "water". You can use invisible hologram with a collision switch to detect weather or not the sackbot is in the water! Hope I helped! | 2010-12-27 23:27:00 Author: Super_Clone Posts: 849 |
bit off-topic, someone should make a Conker the Squirrel series | 2010-12-27 23:32:00 Author: TehUberZac Posts: 587 |
