The log throwing comes from emitters.

To build a decent boss you will need some logic. I find the best bosses are defeated in 2 or 3 stages.

The way I make a multi stage boss is to have an open target with a mag/switch key on it set to inverted, so that when it's destroyed the bolts/pistons etc that it is attached to are activated, revealing a second target. You can also link the same switch to more hidden logic (1 time mag key emitter) that activates different Boss attack mode. So on and so forth... link your final target to a brain attached to the boss and your done.

If you use a mix of paint counters and notched wheel logic/incremental bolts, you should be able to make a boss that alternates through a range of different attacks as you defeat certain parts of it. So, for instance, your boss starts throwing logs with it's right arm and that's the body part you need to target first. Once the right arm is disabled then the boss will change to a new attack, perhaps shooting lasers out of it's eyes for example, in which case you must target the head next. And so on, ad nauseum...

Is that the kind of thing you had in mind?

In that case, the best way to do this I would think is to have a stack of dissolve pieces; on top of these rests a block with a mag key on it. As you defeat parts of the boss, dissolve pieces disappear and the mag key moves down the shaft, activating the next part of the boss. You could easily implement this with things like paintinator switches, which can release on/off inputs when triggered which make the boss start something new.

If you wanna see this in action try playing Make Your Own Boss: A Step By Step Guide by, er ... Holguin86.

Why not just use an incremental bolt? Or if you only need your boss to have 4 different attack phases (or less), just use the notched wheel from the LBPC logic pack. Much easier.
