Platformia

Archive: 31 posts

Hello everyone, this is my first level and it's called Platformia. Platformia is a land full of platforming and I have gone through tips and how to make a good level levels. There is a decent amount of platforming and a music selector. The blank room is a two player challenge under construction. Plus, there are two secret point areas. Can you find them both? Feedback would be greatly appreciated and if you want more things added I'll see if I can do it because I still have a lot of room left for the thermometer.[/div]

Edit: I'm now doing F4F.

Hello, thanks for your feebdack in TRINE THEME (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=30735-TRINE-Theme). This is my F4F:

Your level is good. It's a good platformer level, with varied situations and good use of game tools.

I liked:
The jumps, the jetpack parts, the ?spike parts? (I don't know how is that on English, i am spanish) I mean this: http://mfelizondo.com/catalogo/images/6225.jpg LOL

Improvements:

-At the beggining, the name of the levels, I think other sticker would be better, cuz it's very similar to the backround and it can not be seen very well.
-Longer.

FOR YOUR FIRST LEVEL IS AWESOME, my first level was rubish compared to this

Thanks for the review! My first real level was gonna be Waterfall Caves but I wasn't that impressed so I canceled it and eventually started creating again. I'm happy to make the level longer, I've got plenty of room and sure I'll try using a different sticker. I'll try adding these sometime this week.2010-07-19 13:07:00

Hey, that was pretty fun. I got to this part with LED lights glued to spinnable grabbable sponge. I thought they would light up if I grabbed them to swing across but they didn't. Was that intentional? It was really short but pretty good . 4/5 stars! Good job!2010-07-19 16:01:00

Actually, if you go to the options part which is on the left of the beginning and you either pick cave or night lighting it'll glow along with other pieces. Thanks for the review by the way. I think I'll put flower decorations over them so they don't look as ugly as they are in the morning lighting.

Edit: The new update's actually out right now. I've taken off the tiger sticker so now it just shows carved animal wood material which is very easy to see for the logo and the thanks for playing sign. Also, I didn't add a lot but I did add a little more gameplay. The things I added for gameplay were a couple blocks with spikes going up and down and also a little maze. I hope you enjoy the new thins added/improved and if you have any problems/suggestions, feel free to post them here or in the comments part of the level.

I thought that as a first level this was really good, I would recommend when you start to put more instructions around the music and lighting selection.

The level was overall nice and there were a variety of different challenges, but the background did begin to feel a little bland. You still have quite a lot of room left on your thermo. I would suggest if you wish to develop this level further to add atmospheric lighting, spots/LED's and take it section by section adding small details to the scenery. The secrets were there but quite tricky to spot.

Thanks for the feedback strangepom, I'll definitely try adding instructions for lighting and music . I do agree that I keep that same style and I don't know if I'll change it much but I've thought of making a sequel with multiple themes like jungle, cave and some other themes.2010-07-20 13:18:00

Hey, I just played your level and wished to offer my comments:

First I feel that your level shows that you have a good grip on the LBP level creation system. The whole level felt polished and there were absolutely no broken or stuck points where the player is confused. Thus it was a very enjoyable simple platform adventure. For a tip for a next level, I'd suggest selecting a theme and incorporating that into you platforming. It would make the level "come alive" more.

Thanks and hope you enjoy my level!

Hey there, thanks for the feedback on my level!

For your first level, this is pretty good. My first level was really messy There was some basic, yet fun gameplay elements, which are what you expect from a first level.

Now, I've got some suggestions for your future levels, and for this one. First off, it looked like you used the grid sometimes, but there were spots with awkward gaps that aren't so pleasing to the eyes. (The grid + corner edit tools are your best friends!) Another thing is that flat, long, materials are not the most pleasing things, such as the orange you used at the start, behind 'Platformia', try adding some decorations on them, or have other materials, or something that makes it less bland.

Great first level, with some improvements you'll be making better and better levels

I gave it 5 stars

Hey man I just played your level and it was good and back. The background was a little plain because it was just a wall of materia and it didn't match a lot. Also the gameplay was little strange of because there wasn't a lot of gameplay some of the obstacle were a little to easy. But It was a fun level but a little week.

Overall Score:

Visualization: :star::star::star:
Gameplay/Puzzle: :star::star::star:
Music/Sound Affects: :star::star::star:
Originality: :star::star::star::star:

I gave this level a :star::star::star: it was good but you need to work on some stuff

Sorry for the late F4F

Hey thanks for the review Arnaldo and Cog. I originally used no grid but one of my friends pushed me into using the grid and I've used that alot so yeah I'll try fixing all the akward gaps. Also, I'll definitely make a wall with decorations behind platformia and arnaldo, I'll try making a better background plus maybe some trickier gameplay in my next level.2010-07-23 01:24:00

A suggestion: More platforms, and less jetpack.
Good first attempt.

Thanks, midnight_heist. I'll definitely try adding more regular platforming in my next level or if I add more gameplay to this one.2010-07-23 16:17:00

ok, i just played your level, and that was seriously your first???? that was amazing for your first level, my first level was awful haha. But back to your level, i like the options to left of the first checkpoint with the music and the race option that was all good, I'm guessing you named it platformia because of all of the different floors? I don't know haha. One problem I noticed was the part with the grabbable spinny wheels over the fire, by chance I would touch the fire while I was still grabbing onto it. Also this is just something I had a problem with but I fixed recently because someone on the forum pointed it out to me. Try not to make things to flat and cornered if that makes sense. Use the corner editer tool and just make it a little bumpier on the ground, its just a minor flaw, and easy to fix, nothing big to worry about. Overall though I give you 5 stars and a heart, great job2010-07-26 18:20:00

Thanks for the review stunkel! I'm a little confused when you say make it bumpier but I'd be happy to make the burnt floor at least shorter to prevent that. Also, I got the name because it's a platformer and since it's the land of platforming and how countries sometimes have ia at the end like america, I thought, why not platformia? Weird way of thinking of it, but that's how I got the title and I've liked it ever since I thought of it.2010-07-26 23:48:00

Positives:
I liked your "options" section, and I liked your choice of materials. The slide was fun at the end.

Suggestions:
It was great that you were able to start and finish a level. I would like to see you spend a little time with the corner editor so that you can improve the visual ambiance of your level. You have some nice ideas and I would like to see you explore some of your own ideas of what makes a level fun. Keep trying to improve your levels!!

Going to play this..... NOW!

EDIT: 7 minutes later I'm back! And this level needs quite a bit of work that still needs to be done.

-Your level was way to "on the grid", use the corner editor a lot more, trust me, it works wonders.
-The game play was a bit uncreative (The amount of rope swings etc. etc.)
-Almost no lighting and stickers
-NO MUSIC! A level like this NEEDS music!
-I loved the color choice! (orange & Brown... reminds me of October!)

For now I can only give you :star: :star:s but I still gave it a <3 . I did this so I could come back to it once you've made the improvements! (I do have to say it is fairly good considering it is a first level though. I started off worse )

I actually kind of want to help you out with this level If it is alright. If so just send me a friend request on here and psn!

Thanks for the review. I liked the combinations of materials so I used them and I thought it made a good fall theme. But since this level isn't really like a cave or ice or really any theme, I decided to use the grid. But I'll be using the corner editing tool a lot in my next level Cave Chaos, since it's a cave level. Anyway, I thought I put default music. Guess there was some bug but I'll put it down again but in the mean time I have an options setting to the left of the beginning with all kinds of options if yo don't want others to join, to change the music, to change the lighting or even make it a race. Plus, in my next level, I'll also use lots of stickers like dirt and rust plus more. Thanks again for your feedback.2010-07-29 17:33:00

I didn't hear any music so I don't know what the problem was. Anyways the grid doesn't necessarily need to be for caves or ice. Just look at all the other plat-formers out there. Just make the edges smoother, add a crack here and there, and make some interesting shapes out of the material.2010-07-29 18:24:00

Okay, I'll try and also adding default music. Also, your right, there is no music playing but at the left of the beginning there are tons of options and one is a music selector.2010-07-29 23:00:00

I played platformia again and I found it. There should be a sign pointing to the options room. It could be an arrow tacked on the platformia logo. I also upped my rating to :star::star::star: + <32010-07-29 23:35:00

Oh, okay. Will do sometime this week or next week. It's just that I'm really busy right now unfortunately.

Edit: Lowered fire so the chance of getting burnt is really low unless maybe someone's hanging onto you from below then they might get burnt. Also, added some other materials for the background to mix it up and make it not as bland. I also put more stickers and decorations like these cool brown button decorations over the spikey blocks going up and down and some orange birdies spread around and more.

Just played this level. The gameplay was good, there were lots of different styles which kept it original. I didn't like the visuals too much, but that may just be personal preference. Some camera angles could be added when you are being winched up on either side of the tower. I found myself looking at the massive empty space either side of the gameplay area, it would be nicer to tilt the camera so that you could see the actual platforming area.

Thanks for the review Otune. I agree the visuals aren't that great. I'll see if I can add some more camera angles and then that'll be version 2.0 which might be my last update and then I don't know if I'll keep making levels, but if I do, I'll try making it much better then platformia with lots of camera angles, some secret areas that are easier to find, more of a challenge, better visuals and hopefully make it longer also.2010-08-10 16:26:00

Not bad for your first level. I had fun playing it.

It could use some life. Maybe some more creatures and characters.

I would make the sponges for the hoists 1 layer thick. the way the winch attaches in the back of a three layer thick sponge makes it look impposible and kinda corny.

A suggestion for a way to spruce it up. pick three stickers that compliment the colors or theme you have now. or stickers that you've already got in there. and place 11 of each. don't just randomly place them. think about where to put them or different ways of using them.

I agree about the jet pack. The part with the spikes was good. it looked good and was a little challenging. but the rest of the maze section could be scrapped for some more platforming. If you decide to keep the maze big at least add more spikes

Thanks for the review Istwisted. I think I'm gonna stop making improvements to platformia and work on my next level if that's okay but it'll have much better visuals and I don't a lot so far but i's doing good. There will be a part where you have to grab onto circle and it's gonna be attatched to a winch so I'll take your advice and make the circle one layer only. Also, it won't have options but I'll be using the grid and corner editing a lot more plus some lighting and make the gameplay more fun. Which level do you want me to give feedback on by the way?2010-08-13 01:07:00
