Platform Palace

Platform PalaceRed_Fox12
Platform Palace is a crazy and pretty difficult platformer. It takes place in an Indian style palace and contains many different crazy obstacles such as giant wheels spinning over a fire pit. At one point you'll have to make it over a pit of gas by using stacks of blocks that disappear every few seconds. VERY few people get through this part on the first try, lol. can you?
I worked very hard on this level, and I really think you will all enjoy it. Hopefully I can add in some screenshots later.
Remember, the level is called "Platform Palace" and my PSN is Red_Fox12
And I'd be happy to give you some feedback on your level in return!

THANK YOU!!!

I don't consider myself that patient, especially with LBP, but the fact I'm apparently the only person who has finished this ever speaks volumes. I'm not sure if those volumes are good or bad since you seem to cackle inside at peoples' death in that first smoke pit, but regardless I have prevailed.

That said let's just tackles things in order, I suppose. The blocks at the smoke pit are not inherently hard save the fixed camera making distance judging a bit hard and, as best as I can tell, the two emitters working on slightly different increments, which is where it can start to mess with you. The wooden pegs that fall down near the end of the stage never really stop wobbling, and, again, the fixed angle makes distance judging a bit harder than it needs to be while the wobbling makes keeping any footing borderline impossible. Not sure if that was your intent or not, but that's where I just about gave up on it save the fact the peg on the right fell over, giving me some sort of mercy by divine intervention.

Even with that said, the challenges presented were consistently interesting and well-varied, and the lack of ceiling-crawl moments that most of these death temple stages seem to present is very much appreciated by someone who tires of proving his worth to the mighty R1 gods. Everything was skill-dependent and well-designed, save one unholy offense, the maze at the end. Granted, there's not a lot of places to mess up within the maze, but a spike pit you never would have known you were about to fall into with "LOL!" on the wall next to it is the sign of an evil level designer, and blind-guessing is rarely something people appreciate in a platformer.

On the upside, nobody else seems to have gotten that far anyway, so maybe that's the least of your issues. Save that, most of my qualms are largely personal, and thus I tried to be fair and plopped a 4 on this because my impatience and preferences and that last bit aside the stage is by and large good and well laid-out. good work. : )

Ok, first off...I loved this level. I really did. I usually hate limited life checkpoints (because I suck at playing to be honest), but the challenges here were perfectly suited to my abilities. Not so easy that I nailed anything first time, but never so hard that I lost all my lives and had to restart the level.

The visuals were nice and detailed, although I felt that you maybe relied on pre-made MM deco a bit too much. In fact the whole level had a feel to it that reminded me of the MM story levels, which is a compliment in that the level looked polished and played like a classic platformer, but also a criticism in that it lacked a unique aesthetic that would mark you as a creator.

That aside, the level was a lot of fun to play, probably because of the great variation in challenge. I never found myself bored of repeating the same routine over and over again, because every turn of the corner offered something different from what came before, (I particularly liked the three ways to go death trap...great reverse psychology in play there, but I'll say no more because I don't want to post spoilers in your thread). A rather short level though. I could have happily played on for longer!

Anyhow, I rated the level 4 stars and hearted it. I reckon this should be a fun quickie to play through with friends.

thanks for playing! yeah, the emitters were pretty inconsistent in how well they worked. I'll go back and try to fix it. And I meant for the wooden spikes to wobble, but not to fall over! I'll take a look at that too. It was my first level that was actually somewhat well made, lol. So I'll get better. Thanks for your feedback ^^2010-06-27 02:00:00
