Scrumpy SackUngreth
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8638/scrumpy1.jpgSummer is here again, but too many rotten apples in the cider this year and strange happenings abound down at the farm. Sheep have been exploding, cows have been spotted in flight and farmer's son Rufus has grown to an enormous size. He's also threatened to break your legs unless you go apple scrumping with him, except he gets to do all the eating while you do the hard work!

Can you beat the high score to become the apple scrumping champion of LBP?
So, at last my fifth and final level is ready for to play. It's an apple scrumping mini-game where your aim is simple...feed apples to the big guy, be quick, dodge hazards, and beat the high score. There are 3 versions to play - easy, normal and hard, but you''l need to complete one difficulty before you get the key to the next. If you can bag a certain number of golden apples (depending on which difficulty you are playing) then a bonus prize will be awarded to you...

Easy: 10 gold apples wins you a sheep bomb
Normal: 15 gold apples wins you a homing fireball
Hard: 20 gold apples wins you a Pontiac Firebird Trans-am

Warning: this level will probably lag with more than one player at a time.

Tips: 1) hold X with the jetpack to boost your speed. 2) overarm > underarm when throwing apples

Enjoy!

Just saw you publish this.

If anyone is wondering whether or not to play this, the answer is ohmygodyesss. It's got a great gameplay mechanic, hilarious enemies and possibly the best custom background ever (to the point I played it a couple of times before it twigged that ungreth had made it - that's how polished it is).

Now please excuse me while I 5* and heart this badboy.

My only complaint.... it was a BIT hard to play while laughing so hard!

Wow, you come up with some REAL doosies. The little minigame had great personality, and once you get used to tossing the apples it's quite fun and challenging. You almost need an apple tossing tutorial though....

I played it twice so far - the first time I TOTALLY stunk, and the second time I started to get the hang of it. Awesome!

I agree tossing apples is a bit tough to begin with but once you get the hang of it boy is it fun. I thought the timer was very sly and could sneak up on you easily so maybe a ticking sfx as it draws closer to zero. I know there is an arrow there but when you get into it well when I do anyway I don't pay too much attention to that rather just a quick glance to see if it's a green or a red light. The wasp got me a few times and I thought he could be fairly cheap given the spawn point is pretty much on the same level as his stinger so if he hovers at the checkpoint you can be in for some trouble, although maybe I just wasn't trying hard enough that time it got me about 5 times . Perhaps you could pull his wings off? I dunno but some way to take him down would be nice. I did just play again and he dies after a while so he isn't too bad. Visuals are fantastic, really love the use of the layer glitch. Hilarious style and I thoroughly enjoyed throwing the sheep around and just causing havoc.

Oh, is there a reason why the keys are in bubbles? Thrice now I've gone to the easy level, meaning to get the key and forgotten to turn on collect objects.

And I still suck at throwing apples.

This is so hilarious and good and clever and fun. I love this level. I played it by myself for the first time and it was still fun. Playing with others is very fun too but you do have to take turns, otherwise you mess the other players up. It will take some practice to get the apple throwing down. It's all about timing though.

This was simply brilliant and silly at the same time, and your scenery was beautiful. 5 stars and hearted.

I've just done exactly that for you. Play again and you'll hear a tick tock warning about ten seconds before the clock expires

Thanks for the suggestion

I've already sorted it. You can simply collect a key from the tractor now. No prize bubbles, just a "you have unlocked a community level" message.

...and no, you're not a natural talent at scrumping, it's true. Practice makes perfect, young jedi!

Yeah, true. You gotta form an orderly queue if you're playing with friends.

You, me, PBS and AN did a pretty good job of co-ordinating our efforts for the most part though.

Hi-

I just played this and I am amazed. This level had some of the best visuals that I have ever seen in a level. The background glitch and the character is outstanding, in fact, everything in this level was outstanding! I loved how you introduced a completely new concept that was tough at first but eventually became really simple. It seemed as though you made the apples to the perfect throwing size for sackboy. Great work!

I rated :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed the level.

Great mini-game Ungreth!

Really fun to play, addictive and awesome looking! (love the background and characters)
Yes, it's a little laggy with 4 players, but at 1 player it's perfect!

Great job!

A little laggy?... the freakin' sheep blew up on me as soon as I grabbed the only Golden Apple we spotted!

Any ways, played it earlier with daj, Kaboom and Chuck, and, I've gotta say, it's really funny! The fat guy alone made me laugh quite a bit, though me and the others sorta missed out on other elements of the game (like the wasp and cows). The chucking took a bit to getting use to, but it worked out in the end (pretty funny how each of us threw differently). Too bad we never got ourselves organized, though. ;_; But in the end, it was good, absurd fun. Will definitely have to play it again to get all the good stuff.

5/5 rating from me.

At the time of writing this I am number one in ALL of them.

That gunman is a pain, and he's harder than the next two things. The black gas walls are easily avoided, even moreso than the exploding sheep. Granted, there's only one sheep. And the hot air balloon guy doesn't seem too bad. You just gotta go over his head and be faster than him. Haven't gotten farther than those guys, and that's just on easy.

I did much better on my second run-through on medium than my 5th on Easy..

Ok, the caterpillar makes you an evil lady. I nearly cried when it ate EVERY RED APPLE while I busy stuffing the guy with what became the last red one.
The UFO is still easier than that filthy gunman.

Awesome minigame. The visuals is simply excellent with so much detail and the throwing apples are really fun. The hazards are hilarious too. I even challenged myself by going for medium and hard difficulty levels. 5 stars.

Play and F4F "The Hero Chronicles LV3 Action Mansion" if you have time.

GOOD

Cool characters and enemies!
Well thought-out, wacky idea, pulled off extremely well!
I like the ending with the tractor pulling out the finish!
I played thru several times, this baby has a high replay value!
Sweet background!
Unlocking the next difficulty level!

Needs Work

Can't see the high scores at the end with that sticker on the finish
I got spawn parked by the wasp.

Overall
A great little level with cool enemies, a changing difficulty and a timer that is worth playing alone or with friends!

I broadcast on JustinTV (http://gaming.justin.tv/rsqviper) and will definitely be playing this level again LIVE with 3 friends/viewers!

:star::star::star::star::star: & <3

Score
9.5/10!

F4F: Please review & play my Dark Water chapter 1 in my signature.

That wasp seems to be an issue for a few people, so I'll try to sort something out there. Trouble is, any changes have to be made 3 times over, once for each difficulty, but I'll have a crack at it anyhow.

I'll have a play at Dark Water later 2nite.

Edit: ok, I've sorted that wasp out. It's range has a longer termination point now, so it won't hover over the checkpoint when you die. I've just tested it out several times and in 30+ deaths I was never instantly killed upon respawning. Shouldn't be an issue now.

hey! I just played it. I got really frustrated at first because I thought the tether on the jet pack was too short, but then I found out how to throw the apples in the big hairy guy's mouth and I had a great time! I did pretty good, But then my tether got snagged in the wasp thingy. Idk if thats supposed to happen? But still great level and awesome background too!

PLEASE check out my level too. Just search "Platform Palace" and my name is Red_Fox12. I worked really hard on it and its actually pretty good. Its a basic but creative platformer. Please check it out PLEEASE! haha thank you ^^

I didn't know it was even possible to get your tether snagged! Weird! It never happened to me in a thousand playtests. I wonder...

And sure, I'll check out your level shortly

^ Thanks for posting that RSQ. Lmao at that bit where two of you were grappling over an apple, then one lets go and the other gets thrown into Rufus' mouth still clinging to the apple. Just seeing that really made it worth the time and effort I put into making this level!

What an unco-ordinated mess though...I bet you guys suck at synchronised swimming, lol!

You wouldn't believe the comments I've had posted about Scrumpy Sack though. For instance...

"This level would be fun if the tether was longer"

...and...

"Jetpack didn't reach his mouth, therefore I didn't get points"

I have three words to say about that...

LEARN. TO. THROW!

Well.... great level! My only feedback is that the one purple flower looks strange being alone in the foreground when you trigger the scoreboard.

I played with 3 people and only got as far as the flying cows

I'll definitely be giving Rufus a few more playthroughs!

I played this yesterday, it looks absolutely tremendous! Best looking glitched layers yet, it really took my breath away!

Unfortunately my tossing technique would bring tears to your eyes.

a visually stunning (that background is something else) and genuinely fun level - mini game doesnt do it justice, as there are so many progressive enemies and obstacles and hidden jokes, all combined with the 'knack getting' act of throwing the apples makes this a really enjoyable level to return to again and again. Its all bundled up in the twisted, disturbing humour we've come to know and love from Ungreth.
5 n heart natch!

I have now reinforced the barn where the prizes are stored against thecX-men intruders. No more stealing the goodies without earning them! Thanks to thecX-man KernelM for playtesting and coming up with a workable solution that didn't prevent thecX-men from winning the prize fair and square.2010-07-04 12:20:00

I usually don't play survivals, but I gave this a shot.
Lovely details, and the hazards are pretty funny.
My only suggestion is increasing the size of the scoreboard.

Maybe the only suggestion is make the chain a lil bit longer, but really few, like 0,5 or 1 more

This level looks incredible! Lots of beautiful detail and a real summertime feel, all with a huge fat hairy guy in a diaper as the centerpiece. The juxtaposition is masterful.

Still getting the hang of the play mechanic. Not easy at all, but it's going to be a lot of fun to practice. I'll be paying return visits to Scrumpy Sack!
:star::star::star::star::star: and a <3!

I pretty much just checked this out because you mentioned it in my Cows thread. I didn't have much useful to say either, because the level is so darn good!
