Anyone else seen this sticker glitch?

Archive: 12 posts

I'm not sure what causes this, but I have seen it several times. I've only noticed it when using very large stickers, and it doesn't start out as an issue. The sticker pastes and looks fine, and then at some arbitrary point in the creation/play process, it glitches the edge and lets the material come through.

In some cases I move objects to obscure the edge, in one I was able to edit the corners and it went away, but in the most recent, I had to completely detach the back wall and recreate it from scratch (then move the switches etc over...) and that was a pain. Removing and reaplying stickers did not work, it had to be a new object.

Any idea what causes it? You can see the examples in this pic, and the only thing I did between shots was move sackboy around a little.

The background is just one big MM supplied blue square sticker...

I've been getting this glitch recently too, I just never got round to posting here.

I know what causes it, but I don't know how to stop it.

It happens when you make a sticker too large. Which is obviously why it's happening to you:

This glitch also appears as stickers "jumping" on to other objects and swapping places which is pretty annoying.2010-06-25 19:35:00

That's a very common glitch that happens whenever you try to sticker a large piece of material - it seems the game can't handle too much sticker-age! I've also had it where the sticker places itself over the actual background! Literally everything was orange. O_o2010-06-25 20:02:00

Any ideas as to why it works for a while and then stops? It was fine for a long time, and then just glitched... but then recreating the same size object and redoing it fixed it... and from what I can tell, as long as you save the level when the issue is NOT showing up, it plays just fine without issues.

It is a wierd one... LOL

NOTE: I have also had it occur on peices 1/4th the size of the backdrop that is pictured.

This actually happens rather often m8, can't really "stop it" from happening, but here are some solutions to go around it.

-break off the wall, make it into smaller pieces and place smaller stickers instead of one gigant one.
-Cover up the lines by placing an object, like a tree or a pole, or a building, etc. in front of the stickerless area.
-don't cover ALL of the material, remember the player won't see all of it, you can just cover what is visible on-screeen in play mode.
-If its a single color background, grab it and turn it so the stickerless part is on top and not to the side.

Those are the ones i can remember right now, i'll post the rest as i remember them.

Hope that helps!

This has been my biggest bugbear since the day I started creating. I use a lot of custom sticker work and this glitch has plagued every single level I've ever made. It can really kill the visuals if alowed to run rampant. It seems to happen more often if you use a lot of large stickers close together, particularly when overlayed. I'm surprised MM didn't patch it a long time ago.2010-06-25 20:41:00

This bothers me all the time, as I like to sticker big surfaces with big stickers... It always goes away when I save though and then come back again 2010-06-25 21:12:00

I'm not sure if it's a glitch or a side-affect of using more textures than the visual engine can handle. Also, it's fairly consistent.

I agree that it's a huge annoyance, though . Materials often aren't enough.

I have it in one of my levels, however, it works fine in Play mode, and in Create: it only activates when you zoom out the camera a lot in create mode. You zoom back in and it disappears, and will come back when you zoom out. It's funny, one time it picked up the skin sticker off my sackperson2010-06-26 07:17:00

Just one will do it.
It was really annoying in my large scale background in my Samurai Jack level. Also happened on my sig level.
I gave up because I couldn't find a solution. (in playable area/sticker looked bad when overlapped with itself, etc)
