Brief IQ Test

Archive: 70 posts

What do you see in the picture below? Is the lady turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If you see this lady turning clockwise you are using your right brain.
If you see her turning anti-clockwise, you are using your left brain.
Some people can see her turning both ways, but most people see her only one way.

See if you can make her go one way and then the other by shifting the brain’s current.
If you can switch between seeing her turn either way at will without shifting your gaze, your IQ is above 160 … which is almost at genius level!

http://asset.soup.io/asset/0887/5241_ba18.gif

This was devised at Yale University for a 5 year study on the human brain and its functions.
Only 14% of the US population can see her move both ways.

P.s. I CAN SEE HER BOTH WAYS!!

Cool I can do both! Took me awhile to get it to switch though. I found if I looked at the reflection on the bottom then back up to the girl, I could switch back and forth really easily. After a few minutes I can get it to move without moving my eyes - now that's trippy!

Cool effect!

I can only see her turning counter clockwise.... the weird thing? I am completely right brained. Can't do math or logic at all.

OH wait! nevermind! I got it! Now I can make her spin both ways! That's so cool!

Hot dang, I did it!

Just a tip, stare at the ponytail and try and make that change direction, then the rest should magically change

Well I get her going clockwise by default, but then I can make her to anticlockwise if I concentrate, but I can also make her rotate anticlockwise whilst making her bottom foot rotate clockwise, which I really wasn't expecting lol.

Nice link though. I am wondering if the fact that I can see her nipples actually part of the image, or is that another, completely unrelated, psychological insight?

Edit, seems a lot of us are making her change direction... is this because we are trying to make her change - I'm wondering if that 14% are people who weren't prepped for the test and just naturally saw both directions.

I'm sure thats a part of the image, although I thought making her spin anti-clockwise was impossible...

You know, when you stare at her pivot foot, I bet there's a moment where you can't see her foot defined and your brain can more easily shift between clockwise and counter clockwise.2010-06-24 18:42:00

Well, I stared at her ponytail, I stared at her bottom, then I stared at the reflection closely followed by her bottom. I stared at her right hand, left hand, left leg and right leg and back to her ponytail and various other combinations in quick succession. I even stared at her nipples but she still only spins clockwise.

It's official, I have no left brain!

Can anyone get her to switch while looking dead on? No cheating by looking at her feet or anywhere else. Just straight at her.

Oh HA I just pulled it off myself, although still slight cheat or is it because I can see the foot in my peripheral vision which flips it at will.

It reminds me of when I'm watching mystery science theater 3000 and I can make crow look at me. I can never make him look back at the screen though. Lol. I'm sure noone knows what I'm talking about, but just trust me. Crow in MST3K can be seen two ways at once, and it's creepy!2010-06-24 19:32:00

@ Sara - I know exactly what you mean about Crow.... Tom Servo can only be seen the one way thankfully

That's awesome! I could see her changing directions rarely at first, and thought she was just changing direction by herself. Now I can make her change direction at each turn!

Thanks for that!

Wow that's spooky! It takes something like this to remind you what an amazing thing the brain is. When I first looked at her she was turning anti=clockwise and then for no discernible reason I saw spinning in the opposite direction. Now I can make her change direction at will but only by staring at her swinging leg and imagining it as a kind of pendulum. Weird.

I agree with rtm, though, that the 14% of the population statistic is looking a bit odd given the number of us who can make her change...unless we all just happen to have the IQ of a near genius...hhmm

Well, Have you noticed that most of the people on here who are able to make them switch usually have over 3 rep bars? That implies that you're all rather knowledgable and helpful, so it makes sense you can successfully manipulate your brains!

That isn't to say that those with less than 3 bars aren't intelligent, just that they haven't had as much time on LBPC to prove their knowledge

Also, I too use the leg idea to help switch direction

Watch the floating foot closely - first it goes one way, then the other. She keeps changing direction just to confuse you.

Actually, It's just flipping backwards and forwards, giving the illusion that she is rotating. This is why we can change our perception of the motion ^^

God, I love using complicated words! It almost makes me feel intelligent >.< *chuckle*

The horse is looking towards the sunset. You can tell by the perpective of his ears; the left one is larger, which implies that is closer to the camera, which leads us to discover that the animal is actually enjoying quite a beautiful -and romantic, may I add!- sunset.
Lol!

no it isn't! the right one is just hidden by the silhouette of the mane. and also, for that much perspective to come into effect the horse would be like, 50 feet wide

You are simply proving my point even further. For the right ear to be slightly hidden behind the mane, it would mean that its is further from the camera -at least further than the left one- which implies that the horse is looking towards the precious sunset.

Flamingemu didn't say that it was hidden behind the mane, just by the mane. It's a silhouette, so the mane can "cover" the ear without actually covering it.

No, that's not right, because if you look carefully you can see its left eye but not its right, which means it's looking at you. The back ear is larger, but that's obviously been photoshopped.

My head is starting to hurt!
Know what? I bet that if we could somehow clear up the silouhetthe in order to discover where its actually facing, we'd probably have a shock when realizing that it was actually a TORTOISE.
An upside-down one.
