The link isn't working. Is there anything but Sony's written demand stopping you from making a PSN account? (Aside from your parents, of course)2010-06-23 17:54:00

But... Can't you be any age? You just need an over 17 master account...

Right...?

The Sub account range of PSN is 7-17.
With master accounts being 18+
Legally anyone under the age of 18 needs parental guidance to agree to the PSN terms of service.
So I dont fully understand what your problem is, in fact your petition is asking them to raise the age limit by 6 years.

EDIT: Reading your petition more closely I notice you want to lower master accounts, well I'm sorry that's not going to happen because anyone under 18 is not legally allowed to sign the terms of service document.

Really? I'm not actually disputing this, because I don't pretend to know the legal ins and outs. But I'm curious, what makes the PSN ToS legally different to say, the Facebook ToS?

Wouldn't that be determined by the company/founders? I know next to nothing about legal stuff but... Sony is one mega-company that seems like it would have to stick to the ToS it originally had. Also, it seems as though a company like this would be more likely to be governed by... well... the government. Facebook, as being a website and being founded (and run for a little while) by a single person, could probably create a ToS that is more leniant toward younger persons.

The internet has few, definite, legal/content bounding rules; as sad as it sounds, it is the reality of the internet...

I'm really just rambling off a hunch, so don't pin any of this against me here... lol

Really its just up to the service provider to decide who can and can't sign the terms of service, In this case Sony only "want" people of the age 18+. The problem is that they can't digitally monitor your age, just like the fact that I have a plus 18 account on PSN.

I cant remember how Facebook do it but I'm pretty sure they only allow 13+ people to sign the document.

I am not disputing Sony's right to lower the age of signing the terms of service because I do find it a bit stupid, However they probably have to go through the whole legal system just to do something like that.

Could the master account thing, having to be the age of 18, have anything to do with downloading 18+ games by any chance? Because if the required age to own a master account was lower, then people would be able to download 18+ games which legally, is prohibited to anyone who is not that age. Whereas Facebook don't have any downloadable adult content (that I know of), so there's no legal problem there.2010-06-26 01:16:00

If your account is not above the age of 18 you do not see 18+ games in the store when you browse.

Wait, online age verification works?!
Dude, i walways thought everyone just faked their age when needed to, i mean "what's stopping them from faking age" i always thought.
Huh, so i guess it IS kinda usefull to have that stuff...

Heh, don't worry about it dude just move that year indicator a couple more years than what you are and you should be old enough to make your account.
