You can delete posts and profile messages and you can change your settings on your profile where only your friends can see your visitor messages.

You can also private message someone, that way no one can see the messages.

To delete visitor messages- There is a white box on the white hand side of the message next to the word report. Click on this box and it will select the message. Do this for all the messages you want deleted. Then go to the bottom of your visitor messages and there will be something called "Moderation tools", click on this and select "Delete messages" then click on proceed and it will delete all the messages you have selected

If you want to delete a post, click on "Edit post" at the bottom and then select delete.

Also, if you are worried about people seeing what you have posted... maybe not posting it on the publicly viewable part of the forums will help?

I don't really see why the site needs more privacy. It's a forum, a site for discussion. Things you post here are supposed to be seen by others. There are also private groups and private messaging if you have anything super-secret to say. Although it's worth noting that mods can browse groups, although I don't think any of us bother unless something is reported.

Yeah, thanks Tia. So yes, before you panic drei, it's worthwhile having a play with all the settings on your profile. There's also a privacy setting where you can be online but no-one other than donors or those with the currently unavailable Ultimate Bundle can see you and your activities. But for private communications, PMs are the best way to go.

Edit - rtm just beat me Yes, I agree that this is not really the place to be if you're after super secret activity. After all, what's the point? The best part about LBPC is the sharing of creativity and ideas...

Indeed, like i always tell myself, If you're ashamed of what you're gonna post or think its "too much" then don't post it at all!

There dude, problem fixed, now no one will be able to see yer embarrasing posts if you don't post them!
(wow who would've thought that'd work?)

I can't see your PMs. However, I assume they are accessible in the database which means CC and Aya probably can view them, if they could be bothered to go through the back door so to speak, but I very much doubt that will happen, it's just not worth their time and effort, same as the private groups.

That said, both private messages and posts in private groups can be reported by forums members at which point they are flagged up to all of the mods. I think it's safe to say this is the only time the mods will be interested in the private areas though

Thanks for clearing everything up, guys.

Full disclosure? They are not 100% private. Anyone with direct server access (Aya042, our unofficial server dude, and I) could theoretically go in and "read" private messages that are stored in the database. Also, I (and only I) have the ability to "log in" as another user, if needed. When I do so, I can do anything that user could do when logged into the site, including read their PMs.

However, aside from websites like Paypal, this level of access is normal for the staff of almost any website that offers user registration. If we didn't have it, our ability to solve problems would be extremely limited. For example, the "log in" as another user ability I mentioned: I only use that when I need to deal with an issue that only exists with a specific account. We used it fairly recently to solve "the mystery of the disappearing text entry boxes", actually (that was a headache). That doesn't mean we know your password off-hand - actually, even the Administrator Control Panel doesn't display user passwords. We could change your password if we needed to, but we don't know what it is currently.

When it comes down to it, I'm usually way too busy fixing things to ever really have the time to spy on you guys, let alone the energy!

Thanks Rtm and CC,
I was just wondering and thought I may as well ask. So thanks for answering. And the extra info, albeit pretty pointless, is interesting to know.

Passwords are stored using a one-way encryption system, so we couldn't tell you what they were even if you wanted to know.
