If you were gonna write a book what would it be?

Archive: 33 posts

Ok, let me start.
If I was gonna write a book [which I am] it would be about a Dragon.

My book is about a Dragon if your wondering
It's called "The Legend of Hydrin"

I'm on chapter 2, after 4 days of planning and 2 days of writing.
On average I write for 30 minutes a day

If I were to write a book, it would be about a monkey who is raised from birth by a zoo keeper in Hawaii. The monkey is named Jeff and he soon starts to learn many human qualities, such as swearing, drinking and love. At the age of three, the zoo keeper decides to release Jeff back into the jungle as it's the right thing to do. As the zoo keeper climbs back into his Land Rover, Jeff utters one word - "Bye." The zoo keeper drives off into the distance, not knowing that he had unintentionally taught a monkey to talk. So, Jeff the talking monkey must learn to live in a jungle which doesn't speak his language. Obviously, he doesn't fit in and so, fearing the predators which want to tear him to shreds, he leaves the jungle in search of a new home. It's a tough journey for Jeff, through deserts and over mountains, he treks to find a place where he can fit in. His tiresome journey is eventually ended when, exhausted and limp, he ends up at a circus. Here, as Jeff is gasping for food and water, the ring master learns of Jeff's amazing talent, that he can communicate with and understand humans. Jeff has finally found a place where he fits in, with people he can relate to and live with. His journey is over; he has a family. But in the end, he winds up performing in front of people, screaming, flinging gross stuff around and waving his arm's in the air for the circus crowd as he's the only monkey the ring master can tell to do this.

Moral of the story - keep your mouth shut around circus folk.

I would write freeform (make it up as I go along). That's my approach to creating anything, LBP included. I'm very present focused, so planning ahead doesn't really work for me.2010-06-21 23:24:00

If I was going to right a story it would definitely have to a short story.

I've written quite a few short stories (400-800words) when I'm bored at school. They're usually very strange and don't have much point to them but they're full of subtle links to various things. I go to catholic school but I'm not religious at all, possibly the result of going to my school but that's not important. I was in religion class do nothing and my teacher told me to start working. I had to answer some questions the first being "Why is fire bad?" so I ended up writing a 600+ word story that was completely stupid but did actually answer the question.

That's how I get myself to keep writing. I set a simple, usually stupid, goal that I have to achieve. I actually use this method in exams, I'm not the best writer, so this goal helps me to keep working. For example just this week I had to fo a writing task that was based around 'time' as stimulus. The goal I set myself for that was to work 'The Wiggles' into my story.

Now to finally get back on topic if I were to right a story, I couldn't do a book, it would be about a alternate reality. Not like aliens with spaceships and weird plants. It would be very similar to what life is like today but different. Think of the Metal Gear Solid story. I've actually already started this about a month ago and it's actually going to be the story for a series I'm going to make in LBP2.

@ SR2ODETDOG,

If I were a writer, with the time & wherewithal to devote to research, I'd compile a book of facts with the hopes of discrediting every major religion on the planet. I realize everyone here isn't an athiest, but I am & anti-theism is a major passion of mine & honestly this would be the book that I would write.2010-06-23 06:19:00

Oh it would be. But not for the people reading it, it would probably ruin their minds.

The most common reaction I get from people when they read it is a long silent stare followed be a "What!?"

It would have to something based on real life, I don't know what, but it wouldn't be all fantasy.2010-06-23 17:02:00

I'm slowly working on a cookbook. 365 recipes, the idea is to cook one thing per day--buy the rest of your food ready-made, fine! But get in the kitchen for a little while every day and make something. At the end of each week, the recipes all come together into a single meal.

It's driving me batty, tbh.

Yeah! Who are they to believe that this life does actually have a meaning and to feel relieved that by following a certain moral that is usually commonly understood as correct and good in their cultural context they are actually fulfilling their life?s meaning! Lets tell them that the happiness that they get out of it its false! That sure will make us better, hell yeah!

Good idea, then maybe you could hand out books to 5 year olds with many facts about how Santa doesn't exist.

Well actually I think the whole Santa/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy thing is reprehensible. What is one of the most important things we teach children? To tell the truth. And what do we then do for close to the first decade of their lives? Lie to them. Santa etc are empirically not real. The choice of an adult to believe in God (by whatever name you wish to approach the Divine) is a very different thing.

Plus there's that whole thing about it being impossible to prove a negative. Also, one or two people have done the 'God don't exist, nyer nyer nyer' book without a whole lot of success, unless you define 'success' as 'atheists feeling smug again'.

Lets tell them that the happiness that they get out of it its false! That sure will make us better, hell yeah! I'd rather live a life rooted in reality than under a mass delusion of superstition that holds back progress & causes people to fly planes into buildings & start wars.

Good idea, then maybe you could hand out books to 5 year olds with many facts about how Santa doesn't exist. If the belief in Santa caused 5 year olds to burn non-believers at the stake or stone them to death, then I might consider that.

And what do we then do for close to the first decade of their lives? Lie to them. Santa etc are empirically not real. The choice of an adult to believe in God (by whatever name you wish to approach the Divine) is a very different thing. The thing is children are usually being told about religion by their parents in those self same formative years as when they’re being told about the Tooth Fairy/Easter Bunny/Santa, children believe what their parents tell them. Once they’re adults its already ingrained in them, its not like they’ve made an informed or mature decision; for the most part, its just something they would never question since its “commonly understood as correct and good”.

Plus there's that whole thing about it being impossible to prove a negative. Also, one or two people have done the 'God don't exist, nyer nyer nyer' book without a whole lot of success, unless you define 'success' as 'atheists feeling smug again'. It’s really not about being smug again, I never even mentioned God & I don't know what you qualify as success either; for me it would be about wanting to better the world by clearing people’s heads of ideas like the belief that a spacecraft brought people to earth 75 million years ago & stacked them around volcanoes then killed them using hydrogen bombs.

Detective fiction! I'm hoping to get into a class about it next year, for my undergraduate writing seminar..

then again, it would probably end up being a transcription of Guy Noir from the Prairie Home Companion...

I'm also attempting to write a book!
It's fantasy.

You can actually read the terrible first draft I wrote years ago in the Creative Writing section.
I think I'm on Chapter 8 or something. But I haven't written any in ages. I may start again..

Hope.

It's part of a trilogy.
Hope, Peace, Victory/Glory (don't know which yet)

Check it out in the creative writing forum thingy.

EDIT: Found it! (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=20967-Hope-My-Novel-Excerpts) It sucks because it was the first draft, which I wrote years ago. Like, 2007 I think.

One idea I've had bouncing around my head for a while is a narrative following the journey of a French amateur film-maker in the near future after a series of floods hit Europe and alot of the civilised world. One such country was the UK and no news has come from this now truely backwater island since, so in an ambitious attempt to create a hit, debut film this young, amateur film maker sets off to the former United Kingdom to document the current state of affairs. As his luck would have it, he gets quickly caught between elitist former governments, rebellions, the countryside wastelands and a country generally gone to h*ll. I intend it to be my take on the issues currently facing my generations future.2010-07-29 22:30:00
